Cristela Alonzo shares her upbringing as a Hispanic American that I could relate to. Her upbringing was very similar to my own and it was interesting how she applied it to various songs that had meaning to her life. I hear Ice Cube's "It Was A Good Day" in a new light.

Such a fun concept pairing the chapters with songs that made an impact or brought about memories of specific times in her life. I think this one would be even more enjoyable as an audiobook to get the author's full personality.

I can't remember what made me follow Cristela Alonzo on Instagram but I did, and that's where my curiosity started. Who is this funny lady? I Googled her and learned the basics and then quickly watched her Netflix special, Lower Classy. A couple of months passed and I then I saw that she had a book coming out in a weeks time! What?! I couldn't believe I hadn't seen any hype on Bookstagram and knew that 1) I had to read this book and learn more about this awesome Latina and 2) that I could help with some awareness.

Damn I did not know what I was getting into with this book. Cristela has had SOME LIFE. There were chapters and experiences which I'm sure were hard to write but I really appreciate her sharing her struggles because I know that I related to many of them and many other people will relate as well. Especially with so much crap happening in the world these days, it was refreshing and inspiring to see someone place such value on family and reading about the bond she had with each member of her family was really heartwarming.

I highly recommend this book! There's a lot of heart, a lot of laughs, and some great songs to add to your playlist.

Those of us who were kids or teens in the 90s or 2000s will giggle and reminiscence at the chapter title, songs mentioned and movies talked about in Cristela's book. Also being from Texas, there was a lot about her book and family that I found myself nodding my head about. Wondering if there would be enough food some nights, not allowing friends over because we were definitely poor, rarely having the newest of anything. This was a fun book to read for the most part but was also still real.
