Publisher: Penguin Random House Library Resources
Genre: Historical Fiction | Literary Fiction | Women's Fiction
Release Date: February 11, 2021

I read The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald years ago, but this makes me want to re-read it soon!

This book club kit is the perfect companion to the book. It asks thought provoking questions that let you take a deeper dive into the book.

I think this will definitely enhance the reader's experience with reading The Great Gatsby!

I'm so grateful F. Scott Fitzgerald, Penguin Random House Library Resources, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this ARC ebook in exchange for my honest review.

The Great Gatsby is one of my favorite books, but I've never considered it for a book club read. This kit might change that, especially thinking about The Great Gatsby in the context of all of the new and forthcoming books about Gatsby characters.

I enjoyed the discussion questions included in this guide, and could also see this guide being used in an academic context to elicit different than typical conversations about the text.

As much as I love this novel, I can't see how the "Love for Gatsby Throughout the Years" portion of this kit would be helpful in facilitating a book club discussion.

Short book club guide that has some good discussion questions. The questions take the bulk of the guide and I could see most of them sparking a good book group time. The "love for Gatsby through the ages" quotes section was pretty pointless and uninteresting, but the fascinating facts were actually petty cool. Would have loved to have seen more depth (maybe quotes) into some of the scholarship mentioned in the discussion questions. It would have also been great to see the introduction written for this release.

This Penguin Random House Book Club Kit is such a great idea. However, this one was just too short in my opinion.
This kit consists of:
- a list of inventive, poignant questions; I love how thought provoking and open they are, welcoming many different points of view in your group
- quotes about The Great Gatsby
- fun facts - some were fun.

There was just something missing to make a solid kit for my book club. Photos, some DIY, recipes, playlist, etc. would have been welcome. Even better, I would love to see some instructions for throwing a theme-inspired "party" for the meeting!

The Great Gatsby is one of my favourite books ever, and as such, I have spent a lot of time reading and analyzing it (apart from studying it at university). And so, I loved the question that made me reflect about things that I had never consider and also keep thinking about other theories that I had on my own (like question number 3, I will be reading Keath Fraser and Edward Wasiolek's essays).

The Fascinating facts were also very interesting, I am glad I got to know new things I did not know about this novel that I love so dearly. Although a fun fact I missed seeing is how the author stole parts from Zeldas's (his wife) diary to inclde in his novel... but that is an issue for another day!

Amazing inspiring and thought provoking questions that are PERFECT for any book club meeting. Highly highly recommend. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I have always loved this classic, The Great Gatsby. I am continuing to ponder the d meaning and this book club kit helps with the discussion guide. It would be so nice if a “ book club kit” was standard because it can be difficult to create detailed discussion questions during book club (with/without an adult beverage in hand). Thank you for this book club kit!

I loved getting to look through this fun Book Club Kit for The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald.
This is one of my favorite books and I recently reread it in celebration of Gatsby entering the public domain.
It's a great title for book clubs- even if it's one most people have read for school there's so much to discuss and it begs to be read again.
The packet is beautiful with artwork that compliments the book's new cover art.
It includes great discussion questions, trivia about the classic, as well as quotes about the book from other notable authors.
Thanks to Penguin Random House Library Resources and NetGalley for the advance copy.

This is a great resource for a book club or as a way to help further your understanding of a book. I will definitely be using this when I read the book.

Book Club Kit: The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a fun addition once you've read The Great Gatsby to further engage in the story. This kit includes discussion questions to consider with a book club or individually, praise for the book throughout the years, and fascinating facts about the novel. This is the perfect kit to enhance the reader's overall experience.

I found this super helpful after I finished the novel.

I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Ah, The Great Gatsby. Love it or hate it, 2021 will be the year it starts living its best life since it has just entered the public domain. I can't wait to see how various publishers update its tired (if iconic) cover to make it appeal to a broader, younger audience.

With that in mind, the assemblage of a new Book Club Kit seems quite timely. This particular six-page low-frills guide includes:

- Discussion Questions, such as, "Which character strikes you as the most contemporary? The most old fashioned? Why?" (Fairly standard and academic)
- "Love for Gatsby Throughout the Years," which is just a list of quotes from various authors like, "I'm a devoted rereader of The Great Gatsby -- I'm never going to get tired of it" by Ann Patchett. (Not honestly sure how this would help a book club discussion.)
- Fascinating Facts about the novel, e.g. "Fitzgerald's editor Maxwell Perkins also brought Ernest Hemingway to prominence, publishing The Sun Also Rises in 1926." (Not all that fascinating, IMO.)

Ultimately this collection is pretty dry and won't really help a book club host more than a few minutes with Google would. A Great Gatsby meeting/party begs for 1920s theme suggestions, food and recipes, and decor/fashion ideas. If the goal is to capture the interest of potential new readers of the classic, it might help to provide some content that could be a little more accessible and fun for the standard book club reader.

I’ve read The Great Gatsby numerous times and I think this is a fantastic discussion packet! While I’m partial to the original artwork, the newly published editions are gorgeous and the book club kit matches the new aesthetic perfectly. The questions are insightful and go far beyond those I’ve seen in other book club kits. They could honestly be used as book club topics or even essay questions for high schooler’s reading Gatsby for the first time! The questions leave a lot of room for interpretation and are inspiring me to do a another reread of Gatsby sometime soon.

Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Random House for the free review copy!

This will be useful for reading groups and book clubs as The Great Gatsby is a novel we're considering doing a reading series around featuring some of the new Gatsby-related titles coming out this year--thanks to the publisher for making it available!

As far as book club guides/kits go, this one is pretty good! The questions and facts provided gave context to the time period, while also challenging the reader to view the text through the lens of a modern reader. The questions were thought-provoking and would lead to opening up a discussion in the classroom or book club circle.

I wish the questions had focused a bit more on the themes of the book, rather than most of them being about the historical context of the time period.

Another nice touch would have been photos of the flapper outfits/style of the time period.

Pros: I have never read/used a book club kit before, so I was very interested to see what it included. Now that The Great Gatsby is in the public domain, I suspect there will be many retellings of it, often paired with the original. Such a book club guide will come in handy. The discussion questions got me thinking as I read them, and I especially enjoyed the fascinating facts. This guide made me want to reread The Great Gatsby.

Cons: None really. I'm not sure what readers might expect from such a guide, so it's possible they might be looking for more discussion questions. However, ten questions is generally more than sufficient for a book club meeting.
