Absolutely loved the Grey’s Anatomy vibes in this book! A story about overcoming obstacles and facing your fears head on. The chemistry and love between Serenity and Westin was incredibly beautiful. Hard choices and past heartbreaks come to light as Serenity is faced with how bad decisions can affect not only her, but everyone around her. Really loved how the characters in this were in no way perfect, but always willing to confront their flaws and choices head on.

Thank you to Net Galley and Corinne Michaels for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

4.5 stars | | Westin and Serenity could have a future now that she's finally ready to put her past to rest, but then it (he) unexpectedly drops back into her life. Serenity is an oncologist specializing in ovarian cancer, thus she is faced with life/death situations every day. She is in a very high stress, high risk job but thrives on the pressure. Until it all changes. Decisions are made that could alter not just her career, but her life, and the lives of others in her path... all in irreversible ways.

Corinne Michaels writes of Serenity's circumstances and captures the tension in her life and the possible fallout of her choices in ways that have the reader fully invested. I could not go to sleep without learning how things played out. You Loved Me Once is a story of good intentions, bad decisions, and life-changing outcomes. Is love big enough to cover all wrongs? Can the past be rewritten? Could you break the rules to save a life? These are questions that haunt the characters (and the reader!) throughout the book.... and it's almost impossible to stop reading without finding the answers.

Well, as romance goes, this story hits on several major issues that may give the reader pause for thought on more than one occasion. Serenity is a very strong character and I believe the author really displays the entire gamut of emotions she goes through beautifully well. I think there will be several opinions on the decisions Serenity makes during this story, but I cannot for the life of me imagine how hard it must be to find yourself fully responsible for a person's life, especially someone close (of a sort). I think the struggles Serenity endures are fleshed out really well. You can sense the despair and struggle morally, professionally and ethically. By the end she is prepared to own those decisions whatever the personal of professional consequence.
I can't say I felt particularly warm towards Weston at first, I found him a little pushy, but as it should be, it seems he knew Serenity better than me and that was just what she needed. I never harboured any feelings for the third party, nor did I think it was a love triangle. Just a heartbreaking turn of events that put them all in the wrong place at the wrong time, but with a bittersweet sense of happiness and love winning out.
