Ocean Wu is trying to find herself in New York City. On a gap year before beginning school, she struggles to make ends meet, connect with her roommates, and find inner peace. During a city-wide blackout, she meets Constantine, whose presence begins to unravel her to her core. The two strike up an unlikely friendship through a shared Google Doc that she cannot help to check incessantly for updates.
As it becomes clear this unusual relationship is not a positive one, Ocean grapples with her head and her heart.

The Cartographers provides readers with an inside look at a young adult struggling with depression as she tries to chart the course of her future.

this was so powerful, i overall really loved it. i think that ocean (MC) could've used some more character development, but otherwise this slayed!

A different tale and a brief glimpse into the story of one girl who suffers from depression. She meets a stranger who helps, if not hurts as well, her journey out of her depression.

The Cartographers is a story about depression and suicidal ideation and the struggle of freeing yourself from a toxic relationship. It is a slower paced, character driven novel. This book is heavy. The author gets you to feel what Ocean feels. It is a sad and depressing story and those feelings linger for a bit after you close the book. This novel definitely could be triggering to anyone who is depressed, suicidal, or at one time suffered from these things, or to anyone who has a loved one who has.

This novel is one that I had to sit with for a while after I finished reading it. It is one that I actually began to like more the more I contemplated it.
There are also a lot of philosophical conversations which I found interesting. The book is beautifully written. I am very glad I read this.

Thank you Net Galley and HarperCollins Children's Books, Greenwillow Books for this digital arc in exchange for my honest review which is not affiliated with any brand.
