Loved this one! It was so cute and had some pretty funny parts in it. Would read others by this author!

This was a fun witchy read that I enjoyed. The plot was good with multiple timelines and it was fun to see the main characters love blossom.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy to honestly review.

I feel like this book was done several times this year and in years past and those were more successfully executed. This was fun, but forgettable. That being said it was the perfect read for spooky season, especially if you prefer your spooky season more light and cozy than dark and scary. It is a charming read to enjoy while sitting on the back porch among the falling leaves with a cup of cider. It will suit you if that's the goal, but I'd look elsewhere if you are after a little more substance.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an eARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I really wanted to like this book more than I did. I liked the whimsy and the humour, but it meant that the overall plot and the relationship fell a bit short. I ended up just skimming the last 50% or so because I wasn't engaged. I suppose it helped in that instance that the plot was fast paced.

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

I liked this book, but unfortunately it was not a stand out. It felt a little bit like a hallmark movie that lost interest midway through. I kept reading, and I did like it, but I think it could have used some work. Thanks for the ARC!

Honestly, I just don’t find this book cute. This book is clearly trading on this trend for witch-themed rom-coms, but it lacks charm. A lot of that lack is in the premise for me. I hate that the hero inherits being a landlord and the witches are sucks about it. First, squatters rights or whatever. Get a lawyer. Second, there’s no chemistry. The writing has the characters noticing each other is hot, but not really clicking. It just leaves me cold.

DNF. I couldn't get into the story and found the initial house and character introductions (sisters especially) confusing and overwhelming. I wish I felt more of a connection between Essie and the male protagonist.

I enjoyed the premise of this, and a lot of the side characters were highly entertaining.
This just moved a bit slow for my taste, very long winded.
Essie & Josh develop a relationship, both too fast and extremely slowly.
I don't know how else to describe it.
The mystery surrounds the town and the magic bits are all very cool.
Thanks to NetGalley & HarperCollins UK for my ARC.

Essie Winterscale is a witch who lives in a huge everchanging Encantoesque house in a small village in Essex which has a curse on it so people who find it once they leave never remember they were there. They end up with a new landlord Josh who breaks a spell orb and recites a spell unconsciously that makes the house curse not work on him as well and he finds the deed to the house and asks for his back rent since they have been living there 300 years without paying rent. There is of course a family curse on joshs side that threatens the whole world that they need to finally vanquish. All in all, a good story and the last push to stop the evil and vanquish the villain was pretty good.

Thanks to One More Chapter and Netgalley for the complimentary copy of this book in e-book form. All opinions in this review are my own.

The perfect read to read after the ex hex! I loved the witch vibes for fall and enjoyed reading this book. Can’t wait to see what the author puts out next.

I really struggled with this one, found it difficult to get into a good rhythm with it, and usually I'm ALL for a witchy romance so that was a bit disappointing. There just felt like there was a bit too much going on and in the end, I may come back to it again to retry it.

What happens when your on opposite sides and fall in love. When your bosses set you up and not in a good way. A little magic, some mayhem and a chicken house.
Kate Johnson writes a fun witchy tale of things gone wrong or things going right. I'm excited to read the rest in this hope to ge a series.

This book is the perfect read for spooky season! It took me a little to get into it, but once I did, I flew through it. I loved the romance and adventures in this book. If you’re interested in traveling back in time m, be sure to check this one out!

This was a super cute witchy romance that I read in about a day and a half. It leaned into some romance tropes, which I found I didn't mind as much as I normally do in these situations.

All in all, a fun, cute, fast read!

Funny, quirky, with so many amazing characters. I enjoyed this book, especially during the fall season. I would recommend it for anyone looking for a sweet romance with a touch of humor.

Fabulous!!!!! The setting of a magical house that was constantly changing was so whimsical and perfect for this book. I loved the characters and how we got to see witches from different time periods. Each character was so unique and so much fun to read about. The plot itself was amazing. I couldn't put the book down. The plot spanned generations and the way everything wrapped up was perfect. Josh and Essie were perfect together and I loved seeing them grow closer through everything that they've been through. Top marks!!!

This was such a quirky book that at first I was a litttle meh reading it but once I carried on I really enjoyed it. Essie meets Josh and after a night she hex’s him and her house so he doesn’t remember but somehow he starts getting a feeling she seems familiar. An angsty witch in a cosy book is all you need.

As an Essex girl myself I might be slightly biased but this book is fabulous! It's perfect for those who like to read seasonally, its all thing autumn/Halloween wrapped up in the Essex countryside. Essie was a really interesting main character and I loved the houses involvement (I'm a sucker for a magical house!)
A sweet but really solid plot that I will return to again next autumn for sure

P.S. was also great to read a book set today that doesn't rely on Essex stereotypes so thank you for that Kate Johnson!

Hex Appeal has a plot that drew me in - witch Essie Winterscale lives with her coven in a hidden house called Bedlam in Essex. Until one day the house's new owner Josh comes to claim his inheritance and back-rent after discovering none has been paid in over 100 years.

I really thought I'd get into this, but, unfortunately this book just wasn't for me. I found it slow to get into and once the story started to develop I just found I wasn't as invested in the characters and their journey. I think there was just a lot going on with each of the house inhabitants that took away too much time. I cannot fault the writing, especially the dialogue, but this was just a miss for me. My three star rating though is for the fact this book *is* for someone else, and judging by others I am in the minority! I just can't give it a one or two star because I didn't dislike it, just didn't gel and that is no fault of the author, whom I would still give another go.

This book started off with a great plot and solid characters. However i was unable to finish this book before the hustle and bustle of the holidays were up on. and it felt weird to try and pick up where i left off as im in a different reading mood now. But i will be coming back to it after the holidays are over.
