This was a great romance; one of the best I've read recently. It's a different twist on romance. Most of the book was not predictable. The ending was a bit predictable but in a satisfying way.
The story starts with a woman who meets a man through a wrong number phone call then a relationship ensues. I do not generally read the synopsis immediately before reading a book, so I had forgotten what the book was about. I waited for the situation to get creepy. In a way it did, but not in the way I was expecting, which was a very enjoyable surprise.
I really cared about these 2 main characters. I liked them both. They were well-developed. The dialogue was believable. The supporting characters were well defined as were their roles in the plot.
I would recommend this to romance and women's fiction lovers. It's also good chick lit. Overall, a great read.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Man I Never Met by Elle Cook. Pub Date: November 22, 2022. Rating: 4 stars. Starting with an unexpected phone call, Hannah meets Davey due to a misdial he made while phoning in for a job interview. Thinking nothing of it, Hannah later is contacted by Davey saying he landed the job and will be moving to London in due time. From their a friendship turns into sparks and relationship feelings are created. Hannah is excited and patiently waiting for Davey at the airport, but he never shows. What happens next takes the story into a whirlwind of emotions, grief, hard conversations and tugging at your heartstrings scenarios. I could not put this book down once the curveball was presented and wanted to know what would ultimately happen between Davey and Hannah. The emotions of the characters were so poignant and realistic I felt I was on the journey with them. Don't be shocked if you shed a tear or two reading this novel, it definitely packs the emotions. Thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group- Ballantine for this e-arc in exchange for my honest review. #netgalley #themaninevermet

This started as such a great premise; then a third of the way in the story slaps you upside the head—the virtual meet cute turning a deadly serious 180–and just as quickly there’s no mystery as to how things will then progress for the book. Then the question is, are you willing to stick around and read about what amounts to side quests, despite it being in the service of supposed character growth. And while the book is well written, I found myself frustrated waiting for the payoff—Hannah and Davey’s HEA—and EVEN THEN , after ALL that waiting, there wasn’t much of one in action. The ending was scant and rushed. Don’t think I can recommend this to people.

This book was almost perfection for me! It was beautiful and heartbreaking all at the same time and it gave you no choice but to be thoroughly invested in Hannah and Davey's journey. I don't want to give anything away for
those you want to read it but be prepared for same very raw emotions.

I didn't give it a perfect 5 star rating for two reasons. The first being George's character. While he seemed to be the perfect match for Hannah at the beginning he quickly became a walking red flag and some of his behavior was very toxic, but not addressed by the characters in the story. The second reason, which I find is really common in the romance genre, was the abrupt ending. I could have done with at least two more chapters to round out the story and then I would have been more satisfied with the ending.

All in all though, such a great story! If you're a sucker for heartbreaking, but hopeful, romance novels, this book is calling your name!

This was a cute book that really is about the right time, right place scenario. It starts off really strong and sweet before getting into some serious subject matter, which I didn’t expect. Reading the author’s note provided some clarity as to how and why that happened and I’m so happy for the author’s real life happy ending. This book had sex appeal, humor, and some real life consequences, all of which were a plus for me. However, the last 5% of the book was a bit too far fetched and too perfect of a bow to end the story. All in all, I liked this book and thought it was a quick read, so I’m rating it 3.5 stars ⭐️, rounded up to 4 stars ⭐️. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley.

I feel like the reason Ive never read The Flatshare is the same reason why I didn't like this. It was a romance novel with barely any romance. Like they didn't even live in the same country! I want my main characters to meet in chapter 1 so I was struggling HEAVILY. I would say this is more a contemporary fiction than romance at all. All that said, it was a beautiful book but just not for me at all.

Hannah gets a phone call from someone who misdialed.. the conversation turns into texting and then more. I instantly felt pulled into the story. It felt like I was in Hannah’s shoes receiving the texts and having the conversations with a stranger. This story was a lot of “will they, won’t they” but ultimately a great, romantic story!

I was not expecting this emotional of a story. I went into this thinking it would be a light and fluffy romcom but I was pleasantly surprised. I went through all the emotions while reading this. The characters were so authentic and raw. It was a heartbreaking and heartwarming story.

A chance wrong number becomes so much more for Hannah and Davey. Davey is an American from Texas, trying to call in for a job interview but gets Hannah instead. She doesn’t plan on hearing from him again until she receives a text saying that he got the job and would be moving to London.

Soon they develop a friendship…exchanging texts, phone calls and video calls. Their friendship soon feels like the start of something more that they can begin once he gets to London.

Hannah is left waiting at the airport for Davey. He does not show up. Doesn’t answer calls or texts. Hannah doesn’t know what’s happening. Once they talk and she finds out why he wasn’t there, it changes both of their lives and plans for the future. They both try to move in but it’s easier said than done.

This was such an adorable story that had some amazing but heartbreaking moments. I loved Hannah and Davey as characters. Can’t wait to pick up Elle Cook’s books in the future.

I am a procrastinator and I was lucky enough to be provided this book by NetGalley back in May of 2022. Now that I have finished it I’m super mad at myself for NOT reading it sooner.

This is a story about London based Hannah who gets a wrong number call from an American man named Dave. After the chance phone call they begin a friendship and it follows the two of them living their lives over a year and a half.

What I loved:
- Meet cute, I never answer wrong numbers especially from out of the country but thankfully Hannah does in this story and its an amazing way to “meet” someone
- Locations, Hannah and Davey are located in two of my favorite cities in the world London and Austin. It was so great thinking about both places while reading the book.
- Hannah’s friends, Hannah has an eclectic group of friends and I just loved her interactions with them throughout the story.
- Holidays, both of these characters go on great trips throughout the story and I had major FOMO cause I love to travel and I just wanted to be in those places as well

There are a lot more things I loved about this book but they would spoil the story and I can’t do that if you are interested in reading it. For all of my romance readers out there who love a slow burn with angst, frustration, and a HEA please consider reading this book as soon as you can!

I'm a sucker for a romance that doesn't take the easy path for the main couple, and The Man I Never Met definitely counts as one of those. I wasn't entirely sure where this story was going (that's a positive thing), and while I can't say I was PLEASANTLY surprised by the turns it took, I was engaged and affected and very moved by it!

The tale of two people who accidentally "meet" through an errant text message, their feelings for each other grow from afar as they connect as well as possible using the technology they have. When it comes time for a face to face encounter, he doesn't show up, and she is left in the dark as to why, or what happened.

I liked this one a lot, and would particularly recommend it to people who like Taylor Jenkins Reid's early books, and the love stories that don't always go as planned and include very difficult decisions.

Whew….this started off sweet. I found myself smiling during Hannah and Davey’s budding romance. Then wham! I was not expecting the story to go in THIS direction. Will they get there happily ever after? This could be tough to read. I probably wouldn’t have picked it up if I knew what was coming but I am still glad I read it. I don’t want to get to spoiler heavy in my review but I will say that Hannah can be frustrating at times staying in situations when she knows it’s a bad idea. This brings light to an important topic and I appreciate the author sharing her personal reason for writing this. It’s emotional.

Wow, this might be the man they never met but I want to meet them. I’m just interested in meeting everyone but that’s besides the point. I had a good time reading this. this book was nothing special but an overall good read.

This book got me right in my heart – ouch. I enjoyed this story but definitely prepare to feel the sad feelings with this one, I think I anticipated a bit more of the romance and less sad. It was very real, which is a good thing, but if you're a mood reader, I would keep that in mind when picking it up!

I went into this book assuming it was a contemporary romcom. I was not prepared for how heavy the struggles of our main characters would be. Usually that wouldn't be a problem, but with the particular trigger warning topic I was struggling to get through this book. I'm glad that the ending was happy at least however rushed it felt.

4.5 Stars rounded up for Goodreads. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this book. All thoughts/opinions are my own.

The Man I Never Met is a fun rom com about a woman who receives a call from an unknown number that turns out to change her life. I really enjoyed this storyline and the message it showed throughout the book of that unconditional love.

I think the author did an excellent job of showing the heartbreak/turmoil that this relationship went through in a really healthy way. I also think she showed the "moving on" process really well and made the whole thing believable in every aspect.

If you enjoyed Five Feet Apart, The Fault in Our Stars, or any other type of romance novel involving illness then this is definitely a book for you! It is essentially the new adult versions of our teen favorites.

The book has a unique premise of the accidental meeting and how the universe guides you. Hannah, who lives in London, receives a phone call from a man who dialed the wrong number for a job interview. Davey lives in the US and is relocating to England. He sends her a message later to let her know that he got the job. As they are both single, they begin texting, calling, and eventually video chatting as Davey progresses toward moving. They develop feelings for each other and Hannah arranges to meet him at the airport...but he doesn't show up. Really enjoyed reading the book and the idea of meeting someone.

I really enjoyed the characters in this one, they seemed genuine, and I rooted for Hannah and Davey in different ways. I loved the friendships that Hannah and Davey both had – I think that’s an element often missing from books. I loved the dual points of view and how each chapter covered a month in the year the book takes place. The writing is very realistic with the points of view. If you enjoy realistic romances with some surprising twists along the way, this is the book for you. Also did not realize the author wrote under a different name Lorna Cook.

Thank you to Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, Dell and NetGalley for the opportunity.

Hannah picks up a call from an unknown number and has no idea that the fumbling American trying to contact a would be employer where she lives in London would soon become someone she can’t forget. A series of follow up texts soon become a series of phone calls and Hannah wonders if this unconventional friendship may end up something more.

This will they-won’t they story is one filled with lovably flawed characters who happen upon both the serendipitous and tragic. The author’s writing was heartfelt and engaging and kept me turning pages until late at night. I just had to know how it all ended!

Hannah get a call by mistake which creates an unlikely friendship between people half way across the world. They keep up with their communication which leads into a friendship and then into more.
I loved this relationship and I love when authors bring in real life issues.

Loved this book and couldn’t wait to know how it ended. The story of two people who fall in love but then life gets in the way. I love that it’s set over time & you see the characters evolve while they deal with complex issues. A quick feel good read
