I dove right into Nina and Lily’s story. Very twisty and easy to fly through. Some plot lines were a bit obvious but not enough to take anything away from the interesting premise. Kind of surprised at the ending!

I always love Mary’s novels and this one is no exception. Since two of the main characters are teachers, I love it even more. When neurosurgeon Jake goes missing, his wife Nina is distraught. When Lily tells HER husband she hit Jake with a rock several times, he helps her cover her steps. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to be an early reader in exchange for my review.

I found this to be a pretty entertaining domestic suspense novel. It was a fast read and I couldn’t wait to see how things played out. However, the writing in this book was not what I’m used to seeing from Mary Kubica. It was juvenile and did not read like it was written by a seasoned, best-selling author. Nevertheless, this was still a good storyline and it was entertaining.

Interesting read. Not my favorite of the author’s books but it definitely kept my interest. Quick read as well, couldn’t put it down.

This is a thriller with lots of lies and betrayals. Nina’s husband is missing and she won’t give up till he’s found. It was not my favorite book by Kubica but nevertheless it was a good story.

Thank you so much to Mary Kubica and Park Row Books for my copy of Just the Nicest Couple! This book was about two couples who are friends, when one of the husbands goes missing. Jake is a surgeon who is constantly under pressure, so when he goes missing, his wife Nina thinks he is just blowing off steam, especially because they fought just before he left. Nina’s close friend Lily thinks that just must have been the last person to see Jake before he disappeared, and confesses to her husband Christian that she may have something to do with Jake not coming back. They decide that no one can find out about Lily and Jake’s last interaction, but Nina won’t stop looking, and there is a lot hidden just below the surface, waiting to come to light.

Thoughts: Mary Kubica is such a great author that writes wonderful characters that feel dynamic and real. This book was written a little bit oddly, and it almost felt like a script narration instead of a novel. This book was set inside the minds of Nina and Lily, and not much happened outside of their thoughts and feelings. Even though it felt very slow, I still didn't put the book down from start to finish.

The book threw in some red herrings that frustrated me because not only were they obvious, but also would have made a better ending than the real one. The ending was not surprising, but it was implausible. I loved the multiple perspectives, but the writing felt too watered down and repetitive. I love Kubica and will always be a fan of her books, but this one wasn’t one of my favorites. 3-stars

I liked this book’s interesting characters and quick pacing. The ending seemed a little obvious, but the twists along he way were fun.

The character and setting for this suspenseful novel are typical midwestern fare. Two high school teachers, Lilly and Nina, are in their thirties and seem to have great husbands and perfect lives. The novel quickly turns into an engrossing who-done-it. I enjoyed this mystery up to the shocking end. I recommend this one for all mystery novel lovers.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this e-ARC in exchange for my recommendation.

I have read a few books by Mary Kubica and enjoyed them. I thought this sounded really good. The story of a husband gone missing, his wife, Nina, is looking for him and her friend, Lily, may have been the last one to see him. Lily tells her husband what is going on, and they know that no one, especially Nina, cannot find out what happened.

This one started out good, but then it just fizzled out and felt slow and it was hard for me to focus, so with a little skimming I made it to the end. There were a few twists, but it just took too long to get to them. I will still read more by this author, because I do like her writing, but this just wasn't my favorite.

Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the gifted copy. All opinions are my own. Out Feb. 17.

I'm a huge fan of Kubica so was delighted to read this latest novel! Friends Lily and Nina are both teachers at the same school and share good times together. But when Nina's surgeon husband, Jake suddenly goes missing after a fight he had with his wife, all hell breaks loose! Alternating in perspectives, the novel shows us just how tenuous the threads of marriage can be; when faced with a dilemma, something (or someone) must give! This is one of those books that I raced through as I can't wait for the ending, and it didn't disappoint! Can't wait for her next thriller!
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!

3.5, really. Appropriately twisty, tons of grey spaces, but the writing is wishy washy more often than not and the characters are...yeah, still going with wishy washy.

I couldn't wait to dive into this because I really enjoyed other Mary Kubica novels. There are multiple POV. First POV is Christian, who is married to Lily, a high school math teacher. They are a seemingly happy couple who have suffered multiple miscarriages and have recently found out they are pregnant once again and hoping it ends well this time. The second POV is Nina. Nina is a high school English teacher at the same school as Lily. Nina's husband is Jake, a successful neurosurgeon. Nina and Jake's marriage outwardly looks fine, but privately is on the rocks because of how much time Nina has to spend caring for her mother who has been diagnosed with macular degeneration, which is causing her to go blind at a relatively young age. The two couples are connected because of the wives working together and it reveals that Lily and Nina are actually pretty close friends. After a fight with Nina, Jake turns up missing. It takes a few days for Nina to realize he is actually missing and not just upset with her and not coming home. Lily happens to be one of the last people to see Jake while she was taking a walk on a nearby trail. Lily and Jake had an altercation due to some unwanted advances and Lily fears she may have killed him as she was trying to get away. Christian jumps into protective mode and helps conceal the fact that his wife had any communication with Jake that day. There are so many twists and turns and it will leave the reader questioning everyone!

This was a fun thriller, I would even dare to say atmospheric with the talk of the trail running behind the house and playing a little with timelines.

Kubica for me is always a satisfying read, she never shies away from throwing those ending twists.

I felt very meh about this one. The plot was long and drawn out so I didn’t care enough to be surprised by the twists. Writing is decent and story was not bad, I just couldn’t get into it.

I'm a fan of Kubica's work so I was excited for this one. Loved the premise, but I will say the writing was a bit different for this book than her previous. That being said, I did still enjoy it and would recommend to others who are looking for a quick, twisty thriller.

I loved local woman missing and I loved this one. This kept me interested and I thought I knew who did it and I was so wrong. Such a good twist

It’s hard to say too much about this one without giving it away! A husband goes missing and mystery ensues, I guess. Several things in this story didn’t sit right with me but I thought it was fairly good.

I am a fan of Mary Kubica so was so excited for a preview of her latest thriller. It did not disappoint. It had short, fast paced chapters that I was able to read quickly and a plot that also moved quickly until a big reveal at the end. I thought I knew the twist but the last 10 pages even had me surprised which I loved. I always love the Chicago settings in her books as well. This is not for my younger students but a good, fairly clean thriller for older students. Definitely recommend!
