THIS WAS FANTASTIC. I loved picking out all of the songs that were used to tell this absolutely pitch perfect (WINK WINK) bedtime story. It's such a wonderful stroll through Motown and just a fantastic introduction to some of the best songs. And it was able to tell a coherent story too! Which made me love it even more! It made my heart so warm to read this.

This a neat concept. Motown songs (titles, mostly) are used as inspiration for a bedtime book for young kids. The illustrations are gorgeous--colorful and full of life and energy! It was fun to be reminded of all the various song titles, but the actual flow of the text didn't quite work for me. There wasn't a consistent meter or rhyming scheme and I couldn't quite get into a rhythm as I read this aloud. Still, this might be a great gift for grandparents who will feel a special connection linking their music to the babies in their lives.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

As a lover of Motown, I greatly enjoyed this book. The art is a beautiful addition to the already gorgeous lyrics! I can imagine many families cuddled up reading and singing through this book together many times over.

I received an electronic ARC from SOURCEBOOKS Kids through NetGalley.
Love radiates from the illustrations as readers see a wide variety of Motown song snippets repurposed as a lullaby. It's almost impossible to read this without singing along. It's even harder to stop singing and move on to the next portion shared. Some of the transitions are disjointed so the whole book does not flow together well. I appreciate the information provided on each song at the end of the book. A delightful gift for young families.

Thank you Sourcebooks and NetGalley for the advanced electronic review copy of this delightful book. This book is written using multiple lyrics of the well-known Motown songs (the list and some trivia information is provided in the back of the book). The illustrations are lovely and fun. Great idea to create a composite lullaby like that. A wonderful book.

Sugar Pie Lullaby is snippets of songs woven together into one masterpiece. At the end, it tells the history of each song. Now I want to learn the tunes I don’t know so I can sing it all.

SUGAR PIE LULLABY is a great homage to Motown and a lovely lullaby. Lyrical words paired with fun and skillfully done illustrations, this makes for a perfect bedtime read/sing with a child. Upping this book’s game even higher is the list of author Carole Boston Weatherford’s recommended Motown songs for adult readers to share with the children in their lives.

I loved the concept of the book when I read the summary. Unfortunately, I feel like it was poorly executed. It’s very disjointed to read. The author tried to string song lyrics together into sentences to create this story and it, sadly, didn’t work for me.

Please help the book be made available at Aldiko app. I m facing issues with downloading otherwise. Thank you.

I love this book! I did have to read it twice though because the first time I spent trying to connect the lyrics with the song (I did pretty well) then I had to read to again while singing to my dog.

I enjoyed the back of the book as well with a little trivia about each singer or group. Nice touch.
I love music so this book was right up my alley. The images are full of love and happiness. Wonderful book

Great illustrations and easily recognizable lyics. You'll want to read to the rhythm. I love that it includes all the songs at the end. It's also great to start a conversation about music history.

This one is advertised as the soul of Motown in a love song, and if that doesn’t sell you on a children’s book, I don’t know what will. Weaving Motown music and lyrics and vibes into a beautiful, tear jerker of an ode to your child, all about the unimaginable love a parent has for their little one, and with memorable lyrics pulled from the greats, from Marvin Gaye to Stevie Wonder, this one will give you all the feels, and have you holding onto your kiddos while you hit the dancefloor.
