Wow a nice secluded getaway paid for by a brother to allow them and their partners a weekend of chilling. Until the hurricane hits and the power goes out and the generators wires are cut, and someone is bashing people over the head, but for what reason? It seems these siblings are not as clean cut as one might think. But do they deserve to die?
This is an action-packed book with a lot of suspense, and you might not want to read alone at night. It is a great thriller one that you probably won’t totally figure out until the ending. This is a good book and it made an awesome audio with voice actor/narrator Vivienne Leheny lending her voice to the characters. Great book great creep factor.

This was the second Lisa Unger book that I've finished (with one DNF under my belt as well) and while I enjoyed the writing style and setting, I felt like the book was spread a little too thin. There was still a lot I liked about this book with some substantial disappointment in the wrap-up and conclusion.

I love a good locked room thriller and a cabin in the woods cut off from everything is a classic so I knew this book would be right up my alley! That definitely didn't disappoint. A high end cabin in a storm that cuts the characters off from help and communication is the setting for this book and Lisa Unger did this one well! It's easy to get sloppy or unbelievable with situations like this but I really took to it and enjoyed the atmosphere here. The characters are thrown together with some potentially dangerous people who aren't who they say they are, a strange vacation rental host, and tucked away from where other people might be able to get in contact with them. Always a good mix for a thriller!

I also enjoyed getting to know the main characters. I felt like I really got a feel for all of them and with a few different POVs, I didn't get overwhelmed or confused. They were different enough that I was able to get a read on each one that was telling the story.

I had some things to pick at for the rest of the book. I just felt like everything was spread far too thin and there were so many things that were left undeveloped.
MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD if you want to go in totally blind but they will not reveal any major plot points.
- To add to atmosphere, there's a spooky ghost story about a murder that happened at the cabin but that doesn't really go anywhere aside from tossing in a ghost story. I really think that could have been cut because without actually making it a part of someone's journey here, it really didn't do anything for the book.
- Henry's backstory really wasn't necessary. There was a bit too much going on with that side of the plot and I would have enjoy all of those reveals and details if they had just been left to the main characters and core family who made up the vacation rental party. We find out in the end how everything is connected and having this totally separate POV allows this to maybe stay more secret for a bigger reveal, but I just didn't feel like it was necessary enough and could have been tied in to someone we already knew.
- There's also a red herring that was 100% unnecessary and only added shock value that could have been cut. Again, another spot to add more depth to the main plot and characters. I really could have done without it.
- There were a lot of little clues along the way, but that's exactly what they were... little. I would have liked to spend more time making those feel bigger and more important so the reader can guess or pick up on things. I felt like too much was withheld and while there was some good action to keep readers engaged, I would have liked to be more intellectually connected to the story as well and get my wheels turning some more.

Overall, I was entertained but the reveals at the end ended up letting me down! There were too many things that didn't connect and many missed opportunities.

Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six is an entertaining thriller that kicks off with three couples renting a luxury cabin in the middle of nowhere, with a storm on the way.

This one started off more solid than it ended up being for me -- I'm not sure if that's a matter of plot predictability or pacing. But I enjoyed the changing perspectives, and Unger's exploration of the ways in which we allow men to get away with horrible behavior.

Vivienne Leheny's performance of the audiobook was great. I thought her narration added to the suspense.

This book didn’t do it for me. I couldn’t connect with the characters which made me get annoyed with them so easily.

Thank you NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review

This story is told from multiple viewpoints which adds to the chaos. I think the only thing I didn’t like was there were too many characters to keep track of in a “shorter” book.

I really enjoyed this one though and couldn’t wait to see what happened next.

Read if you enjoy:
- multiple viewpoints
- ancestral/genealogy mystery
- thriller

I definitely will think twice about staying at Airbnb’s.. uh wow…

I’m a huge fan of Lisa Unger, so was super excited to receive an advanced audio of this book! Unfortunately, I didn’t love this one as much as previous books by her. This story was definitely entertaining, creepy, & fast-paced. However, it didn’t have that “wow” twist & turn that I’m always looking for in a mystery/thriller. This story was also difficult to pick back up and put down because of multiple characters & sub-characters. Overall, I enjoyed this one it just wasn’t my favorite! Thanks to the publisher for the gifted audio! :)

The premise of this book wasn’t super unique or new but it was still an entertaining read. The heavy involvement of DNA testing did provide an interesting plot point that I enjoyed.

The narration was great but often, the setting well described and plot set up well. I found this book held my interest and lulled in waves. I would also advise attaching a trigger warning to it as it heavily deals with sexual abuse, voyeurism and rape.

At first I didn't love this book. It starts a little slow and I did not feel a connection to any of the characters. There were also a lot of characters to keep track of. Once all the characters were established, and the real action starts, this book was much better. I flew through the second half. I thought it was creepy enough without having to keep the lights on. Second half was better than the first.

Thank you @netgalley, @legendpress and @harperaudio for the written and audio ARC of Lisa Unger's latest book.

This was my first time reading/listening to a book and I'm here for it! I found myself gravitating more towards the audio format, but I think that's just because it was more fast paced.

I wouldn't say that I loved the narrator, but she didn't make me want to join the characters in the secluded cabin, so there is that.

I thought there was pretty good character development and the story had potential. The whole family meets in a secluded location with all their secrets and suspense can still be a solid read, even though a touch overused. However, once the mystery started to unravel here, it was too out there for me.

I'm not sure if this is Unger's style, so if you've read anything else by her, let me know.

Liked it, didn't love it.

The first third of this book had me hooked. It felt like a domestic thriller and I was ready for it.

Then things changed. There were multiple story lines, some of which were related to the main characters and some which felt very different. I was wondering how they’d connect. They did all connect eventually, but it felt disjointed, like maybe forced a little bit.

Then there was a ghost story placed on top of everything else, and while I think it added to the spookiness of the book, I don’t know that it was necessary.

Overall, it felt like too many ideas were coming at me. I did keep reading it though because I wanted to know how it ended.

Thank you to NetGalley for this free audiobook.

This audiobook was a tough one to get through. I didn't finish it, I am not sure if it was the story or the speaker that threw me off when listening to it. I tried really hard to get through it but just was not able to commit. Which I think is sad because until this I haven't come across a Lisa Unger book I haven't liked.

Review of Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six by Lisa Unger

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I adore Lisa Unger. Her books are amazing and she’s so nice as well. She ever lets me down so I couldn’t wait to read this one. I really enjoyed this one. My favorite part was the spooky setting. The dual timelines were also a really cool part of this book. Thriller lovers definitely will want to check this one out.

Quick synopsis: Hannah is looking forward to a weekend away with her husband, her brother, her sister in law, her best friend and her boyfriend. They have rented a nice cabin and can’t wait to unwind. But almost immediately they start hearing and seeing things and then someone goes missing. Their fun weekend quickly turns terrifying.

This one was a really quick read and I think it would pair well with a rainy afternoon or some downtime during the holidays.
A stay at home mom Hannah and her husband Bruce, tech big shot brother Mako, his influencer wife Lisa, his ex and Hannah’s best friend Cricket and her new beau Joshua bring their secrets to enjoy a weekend getaway at a luxury cabin in the woods. The weather takes an unexpected turn trapping them there and someone is watching them.
I found it to be an entertaining locked room mystery with many hard to trust characters told from multiple POVs and some family drama. Enjoyed the audio as well and didn't find the POV changes to be confusing.

Thank you Harper Audio, Harlequin Audio for the ALC of this one

This is an atmospheric thriller and I really enjoyed the audio version. There are so many intricate pieces to the puzzle with multiple storylines. It kept my attention throughout with lots of suspense and an ominous feeling of dread. There are intense moments and everything comes together in the end.
Thank you so much NetGalley, Harper Audio, Harlequin Audio for the gifted copy.

This was my first time reading a book by Lisa Unger and I loved it. We are following several POVS as 6 people go for a weekend away in a secluded cabin. New mom Hannah and her husband Bruce are looking forward to spending time together with her brother and wife, along with her best friend Cricket and mysterious new boyfriend. It soon is clear that someone is wanting them to not have the best time and wishes harm to them. A storm is fast approaching and tensions are rising as the truth comes out. There were a lot of POVs and I thought that it was handled very well. The author does not immediately bring them all out instead we are given time to get to know the characters before a new POV is introduced. I read this book in almost one day and could not put it down. I thought the ending maybe was not my fav but it did not detract from it being a five star read. I will now be looking up more books by the author. If you like an isolated murder mystery this is the one for you.
I received a copy of the audiobook from NetGalley.. The opinions expressed are my own

This book is about a bunch of entitled rich people who have to go on vacation to appease their least favorite person in the group. There are many POV's but they do not offer much except more plot holes. The atmosphere of this book is lost in the characters personalities and the small moments the author choses to focus on. After rereading the synopsis I felt like I read an entirely different book because whoever wrote the synopsis did not read this book. Locked room thriller? Not really... The writing was fine and it is an easy enough psychological thriller to be a filler.

Honestly, I'll probably read this author again and expect to find a book by them that I genuinely enjoy. This isn't a book I would go out of my way to recommend but if someone is looking for an easy psychological thriller, and this one happens to be available I would say go for it. It's not worth a long waitlist though...

I really enjoyed the first half of the book. I loved the beginning where it was Christmas, and they all receive DNA kits underneath the Christmas Tree from “Santa”. All throughout, I was questioning what these DNA kits had to do with anything. Oh, but wait, you do find out and it is driven down your throat during the second half. This part became so unrealistic and predictable that it started to curve my enjoyment. This was a fast-paced and slightly suspenseful read. The writing was cheesy, but I needed something not too complicated. This was a fun read but that’s about it. Unger does ask the question, what constitutes as family, blood or chosen?

2.5 rounded up to 3. I did enjoy this. It was typical and yet different when it comes to a group of people in a locked room during a storm plot. I think Unger should have stuck to one storyline because the second one was not interesting at all. I could have lived with bits about the father, but it was taken to a point that was beyond who cares. I thought the writing was great, but again the plot could have been executed in a more exciting way. I normally enjoy Lisa Unger's books and this was no exception. It was a quick enjoyable read, but nothing groundbreaking.

Thank you so much to @netgalley and @harlequintradepublishing for this advanced reader's copy for an honest review.

Such a fascinating premise! I love how everything came together slowly but every page was gripping! The character development was phenomenal and the situations they found themselves in throughout the book made me squirm! Unger is always a sure bet and this one, her twentieth book, is by far her best!
