Derek Spencer is a billionaire wolf. He’s just been given an ultimatum by his current girlfriend to marry her, or she’ll break up with him. Derek is now scrambling to find someone to go with him to a charity event that night. Kate Hanover is a bodyguard and assistant to a billionaire cosmetics company owner. She applied to be a bodyguard for another billionaire but was turned down. When the man who didn’t hire Kate as a bodyguard call and wants her to be his date, sparks fly. Kate and Derek just maybe meant for each other, and when danger comes into the equation. Which Wolf Takes the Lead?

Wolf Takes the Lead is the fourth book in the Billionaire Wolf series by Terry Spear. The story revolves around Derek Spencer and Kate Hanover who have a past and same friends. She applied for a job as his bodyguard, and he didn’t hire. When Derek is dumped by his current girlfriend just before a big charity event with the ultimatum to marry her, he’ll need a date. A call to his friend and Kate’s boss has them going to the event together. They work together to show the girlfriend she’s not missed, and it soon starts to become much more for the both of them. She’s worried about him dumping her to move on to the next human girlfriend and he’s not wanting to repeat the last time he dated she wolf and had a broken heart. Wolf Takes the Lead has two main characters who have been attracted to each other since they first met but their perceptions of each other and not wanting a broken heart to keep them apart until a last-minute date brings them together like all their friends know they should be. Add in danger and these two will have to work together to figure out who is behind it all. Their similarities are what keep them coming back for more and as the tension between them amps up each fight their feeling because they don’t want to get hurt. Terry Spear’s Wolf Takes the Lead the the fourth and recent book in her Billionaire Wolf series. It’s the final two single wolves in the pack who’ve had a crush on each other for a while but haven’t acted on their feelings until a cancelled date and a friend helps to bring them into what is supposedly going to be a onetime date. Terry Spear brings a unique perspective on shifter novels with a group of Billionaire wolves living and loving while they expand their pack with families and friends. A must read for Spear fans and hopefully it won’t be the last book in her Billionaire Wolf series and a few more will come to town or this group might find a way to make their own community like her Silvertown Wolf series.

I have voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this title given to me via NetGalley. This book was just amazing. I just lost myself in this story and didn’t want it to end. It was really well written and just drew in you into these characters lives. I look forward to seeing what’s next from this author.

I enjoyed Derek and Kate's courtship. They genuinely liked each other and play well together. Very romantic!

Derek Spencer, billionaire wolf shifter has decided to stick to dating human women after opening his heart to two of the she-wolves he’d loved and then lost to other wolves. Now the unexpected has happened. Derek's human girlfriend is demanding an engagement or she'll dump him and leave him without a date to the charity and social event of the year.

Derek's needs a date and his pack mates recommend Kate Hanover, wolf and bodyguard. There's one problem, Derek refused to hirer Kate as his bodyguard fearing that like other she wolves she'd be after him for his money. Kate reluctantly agrees and they both have an enjoyable time together at the gala. As Derek and Kate spend more time together and a true courtship begins, danger follows. This puts her life in risk and Derek goes into protection mode and calls in the pack for help. But, Kate wonders is Derek only concern about another pack mate and this is only a fling. Will Derek be able to convince Kate he's here to stay before he loses her to the danger that's stalking her

Loved every second. Just the right amount of detail so I didn't get bored and wanted to go for a nap. I was gripped and couldn't wait to finish even if I was gutted when it ended!

Wolf Takes the Lead is the fourth title in the Billionaire Wolf series (which is, in turn, connected to the larger Heart of the Wolf world). Kate and Derek’s story could easily stand on its own, yet there are old book friends to revisit for those of us who have read the earlier books. The choice is yours, and my opinion that you’ll get more enjoyment from reading this series in order is just that… my opinion.

I had such fun with Derek and Kate’s romance, the chemistry between them is obvious, but their hesitation to act on that is part of what makes this an intriguing story. Derek only dates human women, never a shifter. He has his reasons, but fate is about to teach him a few lessons. Kate had applied for the position of bodyguard for Derek at one time; however, he made a different choice, and that still stings as Kate is very good at what she does. Fast forward to a casual relationship ending suddenly over an ultimatum, an upcoming gala, and the need for a date will bring these two back together once again on far different ground.

This story is filled with banter, sizzling attraction, and danger when Kate is suddenly targeted by an unseen enemy. A few unexpected twists, and the realization that they’ve found their mate will have Kate and Derek fighting side by side. We’ll run into some familiar faces from earlier in the series as friends come to the aid of this newly minted pair of wolves who have to finally admit that they need someone… each other to face the future together. If you love a well-written Shifter Romance with fast-paced action, steamy encounters, and just an overall good time… then you should be picking up this one right now.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

Highly entertaining, emotionally thrilling, sweetly sexy and action-packed romantic adventure filled with desire, the struggle for true love and passion. Was a edge of your seat exciting journey from beginning to end and so hard to put down.

While I will agree with some reviewers that Terry Spear's style seems a bit juvenile and offers a young-adult appeal, her books are always entertaining and fun to read. In this story, she follows the same formula even if it is a bit predictable.

One of the things I like best about this book is the strong female lead and the fact that even though the male lead can take care of himself she still comes to his aide and reverts to her bodyguard mode.

Wow. I don’t think I could have cared less about this book. While the writing was fine it also never got deeper than surface level. The characters had no depth or motivation. And the book just seemed terribly out dated (disposable cameras?!).

I’ve read some of the authors older stuff such as the highland wolf series and those were pretty good. Seems like they are just phoning it in now.. I don’t think I’ll be reading anything else by this author.

WOLF TAKES THE LEAD is the fourth book in Terry Spear’s Billionaire Wolf series. I enjoyed this story, and the book take away for me was how mature the two main characters are, and they didn’t engage in any head games. Billionaire wolf shifter Derek Spencer is used to dating women – particularly human women – who aren’t always high on the maturity scale, and who play games in hopes of snaring him for his money or social status. Bodyguard, and fellow wolf shifter, Kate Hanover is vastly different from the kind of woman Derek has been dating lately. She initially wanted to work for him as his bodyguard, he dismissed her, and then they hovered around each other because they have mutual friends in common. Everything changes when Derek glimpse of Kate in action and gets to know what a complex and interesting woman she is. He is hooked and over the course of WOLF TAKES THE LEAD, they get to know each other better, and surprise themselves with how much they enjoy each other’s company.

Even though there are some elements of suspense, as someone seems to be stalking Kate, there are definite romcom warm and fuzzy vibes. As the incidents targeting Kate increase, along with the level of violence, Kate reaches out to friends to let them help if they’re able to. Kate is no damsel in distress. As somebody used to being the protector rather than the prey, this is a somewhat new situation for her, but she isn’t stubborn about asking for backup for too long. At heart, she’s pragmatic when it comes to matters of safety. It’s second nature for Derek to want to aid and make life easier for his friends and women he dates, but he has just as much of a learning curve as Kate when it comes to being in a relationship with an equal. Neither of them has ever really had that before. Having the story told from alternating perspectives made me grow to like Derek more. His initial dismissal of Kate, while not nasty, put me off him. Getting a glimpse of his innermost thoughts and true character, as well as his relationships with others, won me over.

WOLF TAKES THE LEAD is the perfect mix of paranormal romcom fun and pitch perfect suspense. Although this book is part of a series, I think readers unfamiliar with the previous books can still enjoy it as a standalone. Characters from previous books are interspersed in WOLF TAKES THE LEAD, but they don’t crowd it or distract from the central romance or action. I look forward to Terry Spear’s next paranormal romance.

Ok, so I really, really wanted to love this story. The blurb made it sound super good and I was really excited for it. But I had a really hard time getting into this book. The romance between Derek and Kate seemed to be slightly immature and kinda boring. There seemed to be a lot of juvenile making out vs real, live wanting to have sex and be together in a normal adult way. And don't even get me started on the nickname! The writing itself isn't horrible. And I ordinarily like this author's books, so I am really hoping this is a one off for me. But I honestly didn't enjoy this one. Here's to hoping the next one is better for me!

OK

I liked the characters (Derek and Kate are a good match), the concept and the drama but it did not flow well for me and I found myself skimming to get to the meat of the story.

I voluntarily read an advanced copy.

I've enjoyed reading about the wolf shifter books early in Terry Spear's career, but hadn't read any of her books in several years and was excited to read this one. Unfortunately, this wasn't one of my favorite books of hers. I was a bit underwhelmed by it and it felt that nothing of importance actually happened.

Derek was kinda boring and his reasoning for dating humans instead of wolves made sense, but in execution was just messy and he didn't seem to understand his own reactions to Kate.

Kate seemed nice, but because I was underwhelmed by the book, I was kinda underwhelmed by her too. But I did find her career paths to be interesting and honestly it felt pretty relatable because I've had an interesting career path myself. Kate was definitely a leader and I found it admirable that she was confident in herself and took charge with Brenda being a menace to Derek.

The best parts were Derek's dogs.

Terry Spears has created a great read filled with great characters focusing on relationships, family, a little spice and, of course, HEA. A fast paced shifter story that keeps you interested. Kate and Derek’s story is full of romance, a jealous ex, and two people not looking for love, but wind up finding it. Ms. Spear has a new fan and I can’t wait to read more of her books.

Thank you NetGalley, Terry Spear and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the ARC of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Publication date: 2/7/2023

Wolf Takes the Lead is a beautiful journey filled with breathtaking discoveries and undeniable passion. Within these pages you will lose your heart to its amazing characters that will never fail to dazzle and delight. This story will create a desire to jump into the other books of this series to find out all you can about each incredible couple. This is a series filled with devastating hope and surprising devotion.

Derek knows what he wants. He enjoys the women he takes out, but to him they are safe. He isn't worried about falling for them like he would a certain she-wolf named Kate. He would be completely lost to her if she allowed him to pursue her properly. Kate is in a wonderful place right now. She enjoys her job, she loves her friends, and she doesn't need anyone in her life to be complete. Being un-mated suits her perfectly fine until it doesn't. Can Kate open her heart and her mind to something utterly wondrous and a bit scary before she loses it forever, and will Derek allow himself one more chance before closing himself off completely to love?

What a fun and well-balanced couple Derek and Kate make! They each long for what only the other can provide, but they have to be able to willingly give it up no matter what. watching Kate broaden her heart and her horizon was awe-inspiring, and Derek showed me just how terrifying and exhilarating it is to let go and let things happen as they will. I loved how patient they were with each other knowing what was truly at stake. It was such a beautiful story to watch unfold piece by piece.

Terry Spear has breathed life into this incredibly touching and truly unforgettable story. Her heart shines through the pages as it lights up your life for a time. How wonderful it is to find yourself drowning in unfettered possibilities instead of facing the cold world around us. This was a great escape, and I look forward to more from this great author.

This is the first book I have read by Terry Spears. The author created likable characters who come to life on page. Derek Spencer tried of dating humans and has issues with She-Wolves. Giving up on romance Derek friends step in with Kate Hanover she wolf.

Kate and Derek characters work being they are werewolves not trying but trying to find their mate. The romance is very sweet and just the right blend for this style of writing.

The story moves quickly giving readers what I can assume they can expect from Terry Spear. The story is balanced with romance, character build and plot.

Thank you to Netgalley for advance copy of Terry Spear Wolf Takes The Lead.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks/Casablanca for the eARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is part of a series, I believe. There is no real explanation of pack and the rules-they seemed pretty fluid. I did find this to be a cute story though. Very enjoyable. I liked Dere!k and Kate. 3.5 stars
