Lucy Bertram is a very intelligent bluestocking who loves botany. William Lockhart is an earl and an agent for the crown investigating a murder. When they meet, he is masquerading as the new groom on her father’s estate. Lucy and her father are experts in poisonous plants. Could Will suspect one of them? This is an exciting and entertaining story with wonderful characters; a delightful story with a steamy romance, a mystery, a dose of danger, a truly vile villain, and a wonderful ending.
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and am voluntarily reviewing it.

This is a fun, historical romance story with some murders and an undercover spy thrown in. Lucy and Will were attracted to each other from the start, and it's about halfway through the story that he takes her into his confidence. There were some unexpected twists along the way to the conclusion as to who is the murderer.

I don't know if adding a mystery element to historical romance is a new trend or just new to me, but I am loving it and this book is one of the reasons why.
Miss Lucy Bertram is content to be a spinster, at home with her father writing his scientific journals because women aren't allowed to publish on their own. But there's something going on in her father's house that has put her in the sights of a vile industrialist who is set on marrying her no matter her protestations. Into this situation comes the handsome Scottish groom, Will, who is really an agent of the Crown undercover to find the person responsible for a murder and further threats against members of a scientific community Lucy's father is a member of.
The plot is full of wonderful twists and revelations, all woven together with incredibly romantic interludes that bring Lucy and Will ever closer to admitting that what they have is more than just infatuation.
I do admit that the story is nothing particularly new or genre-defining, but the writing by ARB practically breathes life into the characters and makes this one a story you don't want to miss.

Happy thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the romantic early read!

Curled Up with an Earl is the newest in Amy Rose Bennett's Byronic Book Club series, and I found it just as delightful as the first. Lucy has a mind for plants and science, and has worked behind the scenes with her father to publish papers. Not all in her household is how it appears, as her father and brother have recently had a falling out, and suddenly even with strapped finances they are able to afford a new stable hand -- Will.
William Lockhart is an Earl in disguise searching for a murderer. While conducting his investigation he cannot help but be beguiled by the clever and beautiful Lucy.
I loved this book. It's a breezy read that has great pacing and moments between our leads while building a mystery and satisfying conclusion. I cannot wait for the next in the series.

This was such a wonderful read. I absolutely adored Lucy and Will. These two couldn't have been more perfect for each other and Wow! Are they ever the poster pair for swoon worthy!! Are they ever the poster pair for swoon Worthy!! The writing is well done, and the story quickly captured and held my attention. I found the combination of emotion, drama, mystery, steam and intrigue irresistible.

Curled Up with an Earl by Amy Rose Bennett was an easy but enjoyable read overall. It's a very solid historical romance with just the right sprinkling of mystery and intrigue thrown in.

The characters are endearing and I quite liked the dynamics between Will and Lucy. Their interactions were a delight to read. I loved how they brought out the best in each other too. Lucy's quite shy, awkward and very intelligent. However, she loses her timidity whenever she's with Will and becomes confident and outspoken. I also enjoyed Will as a character especially after finding out his complicated background. His need to protect Lucy was adorable.

It was wonderful to see how open and honest Will was to Lucy despite the fact that he was playing into the hidden identity trope. Lucy's reaction after the reveal was refreshing and I am glad that after she ;earned of his identity and his mission, everything about them felt like a true partnership. The mystery wasn't exactly that difficult to unravel but the romance was excellent. I loved how low angst it was in the end.

I'd recommend giving this a book if you're looking for a solid, enjoyable historical romance with little angst and some mystery thrown in.

This would be 4 stars out of 5 stars.

This was an entertaining read with very likeable characters in Lucy and Will. Lucy was a very intelligent woman who got little credit for her work, rather her father got the fame. Will was working under cover as a groom at her father’s manor. They did have an instant attraction but their situation kept them apart. ( for a while!) Lucy was shy in company but also very determined and I enjoyed seeing her becomes more confident in herself. Will was such an honourable man and I liked the way he encourage Lucy to do as she wanted. I do like a mystery with the romance and this book had this. It also had a villain to uncover. This was a very enjoyable read. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is the second book I have read by this author, and it will not be the last! Engaging characters and a realistic storyline, interesting plot with secret identities, blackmail, and murder. Miss Lucy Bertram is interested in botany, writing for scientific journals, and polishing her father’s work on poisonous plants. She is uncomfortable in social situations, and definitely not interested in the pious stick-in-the-mud her father is pushing her to marry. William Lockhart, Earl of Kyle, goes undercover as a groom in the Bertram stables, trying to uncover a murderer, and stop a second murder. Because poison was the murder weapon, and Sir Bertram is a poison expert, he is William’s prime suspect. Lucy is not so awkward around Will, and he wants to help her and keep her safe. Great mix of romance and mystery. Looking forward to Jane’s story!

I have been looking forward to this one since I met Lucy in book one and I was not disappointed, Lucy has always been shy around people except family and best friends, she is a keen botanist who helps her father write up his papers but sadly she is not always acknowledged for what she does, her life plan is nothing that most young woman of the era wants but will that all change for Lucy?

Lucy Bertram is happy helping her father with his work, and working in the garden where they grow some very dangerous plants, but she is also saddened by the fact that her dear brother Monty is estranged from her father and she has no idea where he is, add to that the fact that the family is struggling financially then her dear father, Sir Oswald is pushing her to marry an industrialist to help with the coffers, Lucy must do what she can to find her brother, she knows he will help her.

As an undercover agent William Lockhart, Earl of Kyle is sent to the Bertram home as a groom under the alias of Will Armstrong to investigate the murder and threats of men from the Linnean Society and Sir Oswald an expert on poisonous plants is their main suspect, what he finds is the beautiful Lucy Bertram and soon there is more than investigating going on but Lucy is a major help to Will.

The passion and sensual desire between Lucy and Will grows daily and before long Will confides in Lucy the truth of why he is there and there are secrets uncovered as danger grows, will they find the killer will they give into the love that is growing and change the plans both Will and Lucy had for their future?

I loved this book so much it is a fabulous story, a beautiful romance and a dangerous mystery to uncover Lucy and Will are so suited to each other, it is sensual and very moving, Of course catching up with Artemis and Jane was fabulous and I can’t wait till I get to read Jane’s story. I would highly recommend this one to any lover of historical romance.

My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my digital copy to read and review.

This delightful Histrom had all the elements for a pitch perfect romance!
- a Scottish earl in disguise
- a steminist heroine
-a murder mystery
- a kissing bargain

Lucy single-handedly handles her father’s research findings. She runs the household and makes sure the side of beef and the boiled potatoes show up on the dinner table.
When her father seems determined to marry her off to a man she finds colder than fish pulled from the North Sea in the middle of winter, she knows she has to enlist her brother’s help. The only snag in her plan is his absence.

Lucy enlists the help of the new groom on her quest. A groom whose shoulders she notices every time he accompanies her somewhere. A groom whose soft, rumbling brogue gives her goosebumps. A groom whose kisses make her wonder where her knees went.

The twists and turns of the unique plot, the villain I loved to hate and wanted to crush beneath the heel of my boot like a stinkbug that slipped through the screen door, and the tender friendship and swooning attraction between the two MCs made this unputdownable.

This story is filled with Murder, romance, mystery. After a falling out with her father, Lucy’s brother has been missing for months. Her family seems to be struggling financially, and her father is pushing her toward a man she has no interest in. Lucy is perfectly content becoming a spinster, traveling, and working on her botanical goals even though she doesn’t get credit for the papers she writes for her father. When Lucy meets Will, their new stableman, she has no idea how much her life is about to change.
Will is an Earl and a spy for the crown charged with investigating Lucy’s father, a suspect in a case Will is working on. Posing as a stableman, Will has easy access to her father’s home, which helps his investigation and allows him time to get to know Lucy. I love Will! He falls for Lucy so fast and so hard, and he is beyond distracted by his feelings. It’s so sweet to see this capable, strong man become so unraveled by her. And Lucy is equally drawn to him. I think it helps that he is pretending to be a stableman. If she had met him in a formal setting with other members of the elite, I have a feeling their relationship would be quite different.
Lucy is intelligent, awkward, and shy, but when she’s around Will, her timidity begins to fade. It’s so wonderful to see Lucy go from being reserved, uncomfortable, and apprehensive to self-assured and willing to speak her mind. I adore the romance between Lucy and Will. They have amazing chemistry, and they see each other in ways that no one else does. It’s a new experience for them both. Their love story is filled with yearning and longing, and there’s some steam too. The mystery is also intriguing, as Will tries to determine who is threatening members of the scientific society, and Lucy tries to find her brother. Will also has to reveal his true identity to Lucy, and I was curious to see how she would react to that. Their journey takes them into some dangerous situations, which adds to the mystery and suspense and makes the story even more entertaining. I was eager to find out if my predictions were right, and I enjoyed the botanical aspect of the investigation and Lucy’s pivotal role in solving the mystery.

First thing I liked about this book, was there wasn't any angst. I mean, sometimes there is a not of it depending on how the story progresses. I thought that Will and Lucy were perfect for each other. Even though there is mystery, there is romance at it's best.
Miss Lucy Bertram is a scholar who writes papers for her father who is a botanist. He has decided that his daughter should marry a uptight industrialist because they are broke. But first Lucy decides to find her missing brother who lives in a downtrodden area of St. Giles. She doesn't know why he left, but she need his side to stand up to their father.
William Lockhart, the Earl of Kyle is an agent for the Crown, who is dealing with a poisoning of important men in the Linnean Society. Sir Oswald Bertram is the main suspect of said murder, and goes to work for the Bertram household as a groom. Will befriends Lucy and they form an attachment to each other during his working there. Lucy is astonished how Will has become such an important person in her life. She talks to him and he listens to her predicament about her missing brother.
Even when Will spills the beans about the murder, Lucy understands and decides to help.
Love blooms and they get the happy ever after.
I appreciate Net Galley for this ARC title in which I gave an honest review.

Lucy is a 28-year-old spinster living with her father. He's an acclaimed botanist but it's really Lucy who wrote his book. They have a poison plants garden and it is Lucy's dream to travel to discover and write about the medicinal use of plants. Her family is falling apart. Her father, Sir Oswald, and brother Monty argued a few months ago. Her father disowned him for some reason and he hasn't been seen since. Also, the household is in financial trouble. Her father won't talk but something is very wrong. He is pleading with her to marry an odious man she wants nothing to do with. Will, a covert agent for the Crown is sent there undercover as a groom. Someone killed a member of the Linnean Society with strychnine and is threatening to kill others unless they expel Charles Darwin for his views on natural selection and evolution. Sir Oswald, with his knowledge and availability of poisons, is their prime suspect. This is a delightful romance. Will is supportive of Lucy's scientific endeavors and helps in her search for Monty. I like a romance with a little mystery. I had started reading the book when I had the opportunity to listen to the audiobook. Sadly, I couldn't enjoy the narration of Will. The sexy groom Lucy was drooling over had the wavering voice of an elderly woman. I went back to reading the book and completely enjoyed it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Curled Up With An Earl is the second book in the Byronic Book Club series by Amy Rose Bennett. I felt this book took the momentum from the first book and built upon it, creating an even more enchanting second novel. William Lockhart, the Earl of Kyle, is a covert agent for the crown, undercover, trying to catch a murderer. Miss Lucy Bertram is a bookish spinster who is shy and tongue-tied around crowds and suitors. When Will goes undercover in Lucy’s house, passion explodes, and intrigues abound.

Both Will and Lucy are complex, complicated, vivid characters. The couple’s connection was instantaneous, and their sensuality was undeniable. The antagonist and secondary characters had depth and focus. This was a well-thought-out storyline with clever and imaginative writing. I felt the story could have been shortened a bit in the middle of the book; however, I loved the intrigue, action, and passion in the final few chapters.

What I liked most about this book was how Will allowed Lucy to be herself. With Will’s faith, support, and love for her, Lucy blossomed into an independent, confident woman who was not afraid of love. This was a lovely story of self-discovery. I enjoyed the first book; however I liked Curled Up With An Earl more. Amy Rose Bennett creates the most organic, relatable characters and places them in vividly passionate and intriguingly romantic stories. I fully recommend this book!

This was book 2 in a series and was well done. It was fun to see characters from the first novel and how they played a part in book 2. This book focused on shy Lucy and it was so much fun to see her break out of her shell. There was a fair bit of intrigue as well which kept the book moving along. I always think its interesting when the author adds into a story events that actually happened in the same timeframe the book takes place. I would give this book a 4 out of 5 stars.

I found this novel highly entertaining and was totally engrossed in it from the unexpected and hilarious opening passages, right up to the suspenseful conclusion. The plot is well-rounded without any loose ends and all my questions were answered by the time I reached the end of the book. I loved the main characters and the chemistry between them was undeniable. I was also glad that Will appreciated Lucy's strengths and her academic studies, which was rare for that era. His protectiveness towards her, without smothering her, was also admirable, despite his background and training. Lucy was a hilarious character with her own vocabulary of curses that may have given her some satisfaction in venting them, but took Will by surprise and caused him some mirth. The book is well written with humor, suspense and a mystery to be solved, and comes to a heartwarming conclusion. I received a copy of this very worthwhile novel as a gift through NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

A very enjoyable historical romance!
I loved the first book in the series, so I couldn't wait to get my hands on Curled Up with an Earl and it did not disappoint.
I loved the relationship between Lucy and Will. I think their relationship developed at a great pace and was a lovely friends to lovers romance. It also offered a little bit of class difference romance & secret identity trope. They get to spend a lot of time together and the reveal of Will's true identity wasn't as big of a deal as it could've been because of the relationship they had already established. I think the romance between the two allowed each of the characters to blossom into the best version of themselves. Lucy becomes more confidant and Will is more open.
I also think the balance between the romance and the spy/mystery plot was well balanced. I was invested in both but didn't feel that the mystery overshadowed the romance. I also found the mystery plot to be well crafted.
Overall, this was a very enjoyable historical romance with mystery elements.
Recommend for readers who enjoy friends to lovers, secret identity, forced proximity, mystery, spy mystery, wallflower heroine, low angst, and mid steam.

Miss Lucy Bertram would rather write scientific articles or read Gothic romance novels than attend a societal event. Yet when her father, the eccentric botanist Sir Oswald, insists she accept the suit of a wealthy but dull industrialist to save the family from penury, Lucy decides that she must find her brother Monty, to help resolve the issue. Yet, to find him, she must go into the St. Giles's cutthroat rookeries. William Lockhart, the Earl of Kyle, has been posing as a groom for Sir Oswald whilst in fact being an agent for the Crown. He is determined to capture a killer, who is threatening the life of people within the Linnean Society and Sir Oswald is the prime suspect. Yet working in the presence of Lucy whilst trying to find the evidence to incriminate Sir Oswald, is proving a challenge as their attraction to each other intensifies.
This couple have plenty of chemistry and I think they are both surprised by the intensity of the feelings for each other. Intertwined in their romance is an intriguing mystery and suspense, as they work together. William’s straight forward nature works well for Lucy, giving her greater self-confidence as her work helps to uncover the crime. A good read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Another solid book from Bennett! I REALLY liked this one, with the couple having a lot of chemistry right away and then choosing not to keep secrets from each other when it could’ve happened continuously. In fact, I loved that the major conflicts were all external to them — once Lucy and Will had it in their heads to be together, they didn’t waver, and that made for a refreshing change over any kind of temporary split. A nice follow-up in this series which has me looking forward to Book #3.

There is a lot going on in this book, but it wasn't overwhelming and did a great job at keeping my interest. From romance, to being undercover as a groom, to a missing brother, and finding a killer, the characters really help pull all of these plotlines together.

Oh did I totally fall for Will too in this book. I loved his falling back into his roots when undercover as a groom and his down to earth nature even as an Earl. He made Lucy feel safe and was good at laying it all out there so he could be trusted. The imagery and rawness of him was so sexy as well, who could blame Lucy for wanting him.

I always like a smart and gutsy female lead and Lucy is definitely that. Science girls rock! Of course she had to deal with her ideas being used by her dad with no credit. She held her own against the likes of Thorne, who was just so despicable in every facet. Even with her protector in Will, she was formidable and could take care of business when needed.

I really enjoyed the this book and the first of the series. I am hoping Jane is the next up to get her own story, with appearances from Lucy and Artemis of course.
