Henry Kimball is a private investigator who has a familiar woman come into his office one day. Joan is someone that Henry knew from his old job as a high school teacher at the time of a terrible tragedy. Joan suspects her husband of infidelity and is asking for Henry to investigate further. What seems like a straightforward case, becomes anything but that when Henry finds two bodies in a suburban home with a β€œfor sale” sign in the front yard. Are there deaths tied to Joan somehow?

I am a big fan of Peter Swanson and A KIND WORTH KILLING was one of my favs from him. So I was really excited for A KIND WORTH SAVING! I would recommend to read A KIND WORTH KILLING first if you haven’t already. It is a very good standalone book but some of the great characters from the first book are brought back and this makes it even better! The twists and turns that you have come to expect from expert writer, Swanson, are all there. I would highly recommend this book to all Swanson and general thriller fans!

Thank you William Morrow Books for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This review will be posted to my Instagram Blog (@coffee.break.book.reviews) in the near future.

When I read Peter Swanson's "The Kind Worth Killing," I was automatically hooked on his writing. I am giving this 4 stars because I LOVED it and although it is a 5 star book- I think you need to read "The Kind Worth KIlling" first to understand Lily and rate it 5 stars. A reader might not make the connection to those outlying characters without their background.n this spectacularly devious novel! Twists, flashbacks, infidelity, complicated relationships and a crazy game of cat and mouse make this thriller hard to put down. A former English teacher turned private eye is hired by one of his former students to find out if her husband is cheating....the PI gets way more than he bargained for with this case! SO good!!!

'The Kind Worth Saving' is the perfect follow-up to Peter Swanson's 'The Kind Worth Killing'!

Henry Kimball is now a private detective and is hired by a former high school student, Joan, who is sure that her husband Richard is cheating on her but wants proof. Because he has strange vibes with the story Joan has given him, he reluctantly takes the case.

The story is told in the past and present and as Henry digs deeper into Joan's life, he discovers that this 'simple' job involves more than a cheating husband and proves his reservations about Joan were right from the start.

Who didn't love Lily Kintner from 'The Kind Worth Killing'? Well.... she also has a place in this book!

How do the story lines overlap and how does Joan's story play out? You'll have to read this gem of a book to find out! Who is "the kind worth saving'?

This book is amazing, the twists were reasonable and just kept coming, and I loved how it concluded!

Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review, I highly recommend!!

Okay here goes my 𝙨π™₯π™€π™žπ™‘π™šπ™§ π™›π™§π™šπ™š review of one of the most anticipated reads of my life!

When I saw The Kind Worth Killing was getting a sequel, I basically jumped out of my skin. I wanted it no matter what it cost. Fast forward to getting denied on NetGalley. I then begged the publisher for a copy, and low and behold, they sent me an ARC. The one and only time I ever groveled and pleaded for a book. They probably felt sorry for me.

This was a good book. Was it perfect? No. While this had its fair share of flawed, crazy characters, there were some aspects that kept this from 5 stars.

The So-So Bits:
Lots of tangents about poetry, literature, and directions/ locations that gave zero context to the story. I skimmed those parts because they were unnecessary. I didn't understand why we learned so much about poets and their previous works and dating history. Added nothing.

The Good Bits:
I enjoyed Joan & Richard and their younger timeline. You get a glimpse into new characters and their history as Detective Kimball becomes embroiled in their story.

The Great Bits:
I personally liked the dark and disturbing parts that some might find a bit too much. This has quite a few trigger warnings that will definitely spoil some of the storyline, so DM if you want them. Peter’s writing is freaking superb when he hits the disturbing elements.

To summarize it all, did this book π™£π™šπ™šπ™™ to be written? No. It didn’t make TKWK any worse but it didn’t make it better, ya know? I think I expected this would go in a different direction, but it still held my attention the entire way through. I could have used more Lily, but that’s okay. Overall I’m glad he didn’t butcher the first book with the sequel, but it’s nowhere close to TKWK’s million star rating.

The Kind Worth Saving is Peter Swanson's new novel that is a semi follow-up to The Kind Worth Killing, which I absolutely LOVED!! In this new novel, Swanson revives the role of Henry, the police officer who became obsessed with Lily, who also reappears in this novel.

In this book, Henry is now a private detective who gets hired by Joan, who happens to be a former student during the one year he taught high school until something tragic happened. Joan believes her husband, Richard, is having an affair with his administrative assistant and has hired Henry to get proof. Things become complicated when Henry discovers Richard and his mistress dead.

I thought Swanson did an excellent job developing the characters by weaving in past histories to try and keep the reader guessing about where the story was going. Less successful for me was the relationship between Henry and Lily. That being said, I still look forward to another novel including these characters.

Some great little twists in this book. I don’t usually love switching back and forth between characters because it can get chaotic, but I think it worked.

Swanson delivers another twisted psychological thriller where you know the suspects - but do you REALLY know them?!?!

Love Peter Swanson and always find his work to be well-written and imaginative; Eight Perfect Murders is one of my favorite thrillers in recent years. The Kind Worth Killing was not my favorite of his offerings, so this naturally wasn't one of my favorites either. Still a worthwhile read for thriller fans, or fans of the first.

I did not read the authors previous book, but I was intrigued by this storyline. I really enjoyed the way Peter Swanson set up this story to unfold the way it does. It starts as two separate storylines that eventually work their way together. It captivated me and I overall really enjoyed this book. Thank you NetGalley and William Morris Publishing for this advanced copy.

This was a great follow-up to "The Kind Worth Killing", one of Peter Swanson's best novels to date. Grab this one!!

I LOVED The Kind Worth Killing and was super jazzed for this sort-of sequel, but I'm sad to say that I really disliked this book. The Kind Worth Saving stars Henry Kimball, the failed poet, failed teacher, ex-cop-turned-private-investigator with an alarming propensity for getting sucked into complicated situations by devious, murdery ladies.

Henry is kind of the worst -- he skews super creepy to me after his obsession with Lily in TKWK and his general loser-dom, and I cannot even with his terrible limericks. He's just... ick. So it made it hard to care about what happened to him and around him and what twisted plot(s) he uncovered, even if Joan was interesting and Lily made an appearance.

Swanson has been hit or miss for me, but I'm still looking forward to reading whatever he writes next.

What a clever extension to The Kind Worth Killing (which was the very first book I read of Swanson that made me an instant fan!) It is more of an extension as it could be read without having read the previous book, although the story connections to The Kind Worth Killing will be well appreciated by fans. It takes the detective, Henry Kimball, and weaves him into a mystery that ultimately reaches into varies parts of his life. He is now a private investigator but prior to becoming a detective, Kimball was a new teacher that was at the center of a huge tragedy at the school Hence, the movement into another profession. He is hired by Joan, a former student, to follow her husband leading to him witnessing yet another tragedy. Kimball begins to suspect that Joan is a connection to not only this strange mystery job but also perhaps that of the past too. He turns to the infamous Lily Kintner to find an understanding leading him to begin to question and investigate the past, finding much more than he ever imagined. Told in multiple perspectives and time periods, Swanson creates an interesting story that aptly connects the characters in this bizarre tale. Definitely an enjoyable read! Thank you NetGallery and William Morris Publishing for this advanced copy. 4 stars

When I learned that Peter Swanson had written a sequel to my favorite thriller, I just had to drop everything and read it. I was a bit wary because I thought the ending of The Kind Worth Killing was absolutely perfect. and I worried that knowing Lily's fate would ruin it for me, but I am happy to report that it did not. Henry Kimball was the detective who became obsessed with Lily and was the only one who realized that some people within her orbit seemed to end up dead or missing. Unfortunately for Henry, he ended up nearly dying and out of a job as a result of his encounters with Lily.
At the opening of The Kind Worth Saving, some time has passed, and Henry has set up shop as a private investigator. A woman named Joan comes to him to confirm that her husband is having an affair. He remembers Joan as a student of his from his unfortunate time as a student teacher prior to his career in law enforcement. Even as a teenager, Joan seemed odd and almost dangerous. As an adult, she still had that effect on him, but he takes the case anyway and follows her husband and the suspected mistress until the day he finds them both dead. Never one to take things on face value, Henry sees foul play where everyone else seems happy to believe it was a murder-suicide. Fortunately for him, he knows someone who is an expert at hiding her crimes. Lily Kintner.
I was happy to see Lily again and marveled at her ability to make things happen. There is a somewhat plausible explanation about how Lily didn't end up in prison after the ending of the last book, so I look forward to seeing her and Henry work together in the future.

The kind worth saving by Peter Swanson releasing march 2023. There are two kinds of people to be afraid of. The person who kills and the person who can manipulate a person to kill. Which one should we be most frighten of? This is a great engaging book. Highly recommend

This sort-of sequel follows the detective Henry Kimball (now a private investigator) from The Kind Worth Killing as he is hired by Joan to find out if her husband is cheating on her. Lily Kintner is also featured as she and Henry are now friends, which I'm still trying to figure out how they got to be so close after Lily tried to kill him in The Kind Worth Killing. But, apparently, they are best buds now!
I didn't find The Kind Worth Saving as intriguing as the first and it definitely isn't my favorite Swanson book (Hello, Nine Lives!), but it was okay. Would recommend if you liked the first one.

How good is this book? So good that I couldn’t put it down! I woke up early so I could finish it before going to work. Swanson is extremely gifted and, again, has written a fantastic mystery about a group of people who come together to become players in this bizarre, enthralling, story.

It is narrated by several of the players. There are various connected murders, connected to 2 of the characters. Henry Kimbell, the protagonist, is drawn into the plot when he is hired to trail a cheating spouse. From that point, the unraveling begins. The author tells us the murderous backstories.

Obviously, the book held my interest and I was amazed by the perfect closure that strung all the characters and events together.

Thank you Netgalley for this wonderful read. Totally engaging and satisfying.

I absolutely love Peter Swanson and will read anything he writes. This was a great (sort-of) sequel to a prior book, The Kind Worth Killing. I loved both books....this one was a quick read for me - I didn't want to put it down. The settings were great. Looking forward to recommending this book in March. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy.
