This is an engrossing read written by the master of words.

Iris loved to sing. Although she started out young, she had a voice much more mature than she looked and she could hit the high notes like no other. Her dad, Chip, a drifter, had her singing in bars from the time she was 12. After years of singing/touring for little money, Iris strikes out on her own. However, she stil has a year left on her contract and the agent is determined to find her and make her fulfill the remainder.

Eventually she finds herself in New York meeting with successful producer, Clay. One of Iris's former touring friends had given her Clay's number. Clay is impressed with Iris's voice and becomes smitten with her. She is attracted to him as well, but doesn't want to mix business and pleasure....

This story is about hope and living out your dreams. It made me tear up several times. Well done!!

THE HIGH NOTES
Danielle Steel
Women’s Fiction / Romance

When Iris takes a chance and flees one more terrible manager to New York City, will she flower into the budding singer she dreams of or will she be trampled by the masses?

I absolutely love music and really appreciated this candid look behind the scenes. The glitzy lights and beautiful people conceal the good and the bad of the music scene. I was completely invested in this book and loved the whole book. I would give this book a solid 5 stars for anyone.

I haven't read Danielle Steel for a long time. She lost me as an audience when she went to only writing about the rich, the famous, the celebrities. I decided to give this one a chance and I really did love about the first half of the book--the part dealing with Iris' early life and the struggles with her father putting her out there to sing in bars at age twelve and how he treated her. It really had me pulling for her to be able to get away from him, find someone who would really take care of her career and help her make it on her own. When that part came though, Steel lost me with the resulting relationship.

Thanks to Random House-Ballantine and NetGalley for the gifted copy.

Thank you NetGalley, Danielle Steel and Random House Publishing Group for the ARC of The High Notes. This is my personal review.
This book was another hit for me! Danielle Steel knows how to write a story and hold me in the pages from the first word to the last.
Iris Cooper had a life that most would not survive and thrive. She has a voice that captures an audience and her father made sure she was heard. The beginning of her career was tough with him taking her at a very young age in a bar to show off her singing ability. He did not stay in one area long and soon she was trapped with an agent who was not the best for her.
This gave her the chance to sing with others who soon became her family. She got the opportunity to escape the grueling tour life and connected with a man who phone number she got early in her career.
This was the chance she needed. The path to her happiness was filled with twists and turns. I could feel her as she sang. The friends she made in her life was a bonus she needed and deserved.
Danielle Steel has another hit book for all to read.

The High Notes by Danielle Steel is about Iris Cooper who was gifted with a magical voice. Her father decided to cash in on his daughter’s talent. Iris was twelve when her father got her a job in a local bar. He kept them moving all through Iris’s childhood with her spending her evenings and weekends singing for their supper. When Iris was seventeen, father dearest signed her up with a slimy promotor to tour for five years. It was a grueling five years. Unable to find work after the tours, Iris signed up with a different promoter for another five years. This man liked to surprise his singers at concerts and degrade them. When the slime ball slapped a singer, Iris had enough. Iris changed the color of her and disappeared. She was fortunate to encounter a good band in Jackson’s Hole, Wyoming. Boy, a member of the band, and Iris became friends. When the band breaks up, Iris and Boy head to New York. Iris had been given the phone number of an agent who could make her a star. Clay signs Iris and Boy. Their careers are soon on the rise. A tragic event has Iris making a few changes to her life. The High Notes is what I call a rags-to-riches story. I like Danielle Steel’s writing style. It is casual and friendly. The story moved along at a steady pace. I liked Iris Cooper. She had a terrible childhood, but it never affected her outlook. Iris is a kind person with a magnificent voice. Iris had a rough road to hoe, and she deserved something good to happen to her. There was plenty going on this book. I found myself quickly drawn into the story. It is a book that can be finished in a couple of hours. It is the perfect book to read before a cozy fire or while lounging on the beach. I just loved the description of Rosebud. She is a cutie. There is some foul language as well as some graphic violence. Key backstory details are repeated frequently. The High Notes has hope, disappointment, perseverance, friendship, and love. The High Notes is a touching tale with barroom ballads, truck tunes, taxing tours, punishing promoters, a big break, an impressive impresario, a moving melody, and a special surprise.

The High Notes centers around the life of Iris Cooper.
Iris hasn't had an easy life. Her mother ran off and her father moves her from town to town looking for work. Starting at age twelve her father basically sells her singing talent . She starts performing in bars despite her young age. Iris sees none of the profits from these performances and is left waiting in the truck for her father to return.

She thinks life is looking up when she signs with an agent and begins touring in small venues. But it is not the life she wants or expected.

Exhausted and feeling down, Iris decides to take control of her own life and leaves the tour. Life can only get better, right? Not necessarily.

This story sheds light on the not so glamorous side of the music industry. I loved Iris and some of the other characters. This one has the spark and feeling that I had been missing in some of Ms. Steele's recent novels.

Thanks to netgalley and Random House Publishing Group-Ballantine, Delacorte Press for the arc.

High Notes by Danielle Steel is another one of her wonderful standalone novels. We meet Iris Cooper, who at 12 years old, lived with her drifter father, as they moved around a lot. Iris loved to sing, and had an amazing voice for someone her age. Her father, who also drank, took her to a bar to sing, and over the next number of years, he made money on her singing, until she reached 18 years old, when she decided to go on her own, as her father always spends her money for himself.

Iris tours for over nine years, as her manager also exploits her, but she makes friends with other musicians on her tours. Her friends give her the courage to pack up and leave the tour and follow her dreams. She goes into hiding in a small town, and meets Boy, a singer on a band, who becomes her friend (no romance), and together they make great music. Iris convinces Boy to go with her to New York, to meet with a recommended manager. She auditions with Clay Maddox, who is a very successful and likeable manager. He loves Iris voice, and when she mentions to Clay about Boy, who she feels also has a very nice voice. Clay hires both Iris and Boy, with Iris career soaring, with a tour and album. Boy ends up being the opening act, and he too with eventually become famous. Iris’s ex manager tries to force her to return, but Clay will stop him, proving the ex-manager was a bad man.

Over a period of time, Iris and Clay (there is an age gap), will slowly begin to fall in love, and her life becomes filled with happiness. Iris also wants to bring some old friends who stood by her into life. High Notes is a wonderful sweet story, filled with hope, tragedy, friendship, love, bad people, with a fantastic heroine. I loved High Notes, which was so very well written by Danielle Steel. This is a story not to be missed.

This is a Women's Fiction. I really loved the main character, and I loved the wild ride this book takes you on. The only thing I did not love the big event that happens at the end of this book because I did not think it was needed. There was a lot that happened in this short book, but it was written well and well done. Another Danielle Steel book I enjoyed.

The High Notes by Danielle Steel is a stand-alone novel about one woman’s rise to fame in the country/pop music industry.

Story Recap:
Iris Cooper was born to sing, it’s the only thing she knows and the only thing she wants to do in life. With only a father to raise her, she was singing in bars before she was 12. Father and daughter lived a nomadic life, traveling from town to town in Texas, Iris singing, and her father spending everything on drinking.

When Iris gets older, she eventually goes on tour, but her father still spends all her earnings, and when she eventually finds a new manager, things are not much better for her. This is a story of Iris and her climb to fame. But, will she ever achieve her goals?

My Thoughts:
The High Notes is a quick read with a captivating story and a lot of emotion. It’s not a new story, or anything different, but it’s very well told, and the characters, especially, Iris are very realistic and compelling. The book does highlight some of the horrors of talent management and the rougher side of fame.

Lily really is the star of this book. I just couldn’t help myself from rooting for her the entire way. She’s such a sweet woman, who had a horrible upbringing. She loves music and loves to sing, and that’s all she wants in life. Iris eventually learns to stick up for herself and she finds her way. Her journey from a young girl, dependent on her terrible father, to a self-assured pop star, is a lot of fun.

Recommendation:
I highly recommend The High Notes to anyone who enjoys stories of rising to fame. I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

The High Notes follows Iris Cooper. She is a child of a drifter who puts her to work singing in bars when she is only twelves years old. Her natural voice and innocent look support her father and her. She has not had much of a childhood with her alcoholic father who steals all her earnings. Trying to make it in Vegas he presses her into a contract to tour for years. Danielle Steel brings us the story of how powerful a dream can be. Iris' dream of just being able to sing her songs lead her through all of the highs and lows of the music business. You get to follow her on her journey and learn alongside her as she meets those who hold her up and those who take advantage of her. It is a sweet story filled with hope, disappointment, friendship, and love. It draws you into her world and you want to see what happens next for her until you realize that you have reached the end of the book hoping there are more words on the next page, this leaves the reader at a loss. While I enjoyed the basic premise of this book, it suffers from the author’s tendency for repetition of backstory details. Several of the characters seemed cliched and one-dimensional: the alcoholic father, the kindly bartender, the abusive, manipulative managers, the older, protective manager/love interest and the vitriolic ex-wife and daughter.

Iris has been used by her father and others ever since he put her on stage at the age of 12. Now a young woman, she's supporting him and a troupe of both hangers on and fellow musicians with her voice. Except she's met Clay, an agent who becomes more to her. This being a Steel novel, you know there's going to be a tragedy- no spoilers- but that Iris will pick herself up and move forward stronger with with a renewed sense of life. Yes, the age difference in the romantic relationship is a bit cringy (as it sometimes is in her novels) but it's a positive in Iris' life so..Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC, For Steel fans.

I absolutely loved this book. It was very interesting and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves Danielle Steel

Danielle Steel is the most consistent story teller of our time. I jumped at the chance to read The High Notes and it did not disappoint. The story centers around Iris, growing up in a dysfunctional family with a father that extorted her talent for his own financial gain. After parting ways with her father, she signed with abusive mangers that only held her back and took advantage of her. Finally, she stopped the cycle of abuse. Watching Iris grow as a person and as a performer was uplifting. As I read, I heard her lovely voice in my head. After tragedy strikes, Iris uses her talent, connections and fame to support a young boy and create the family she never had. A read-in-one-sitting story. 4 stars.

This is a beautiful story of having the courage to stand up for yourself and what you believe you are capable of. I loved the character of Iris and felt she was so endearing and relatable. Her determination to succeed is inspiring and her story is very motivating.

I was quickly captivated by this book and raced through reading it. Even though I am no country star I felt like the story and characters were very relatable. Heartwarming and goose bump inducing, there is a reason why Danielle Steel is a best selling author! Check this book out in October!

All the applause to Danielle Steel on what is sure to be another chart topper!

I absolutely loved this book! Steel managed to hook me once again with likable characters and a cinderella-esque story. Iris' story was so heartfelt, and her early childhood so pitiful, I felt such empathy for her situation. Her father and early managers were such horrible males in her life- I really looked forward to the moment when she was taken under the wing of the "good guy" What started as a horrible tragic life, ends in the beautiful story you come to love from Steel.

Great book about a girl who overcomes so many odds to become a pop idol. Along the way, she meets interesting people who take the place of the family she lost and of course meets a man.
