Quick read. Nothing too twisty or surprising about the story though. I like the authors style of writing and will look for other titles by this author..
This could have used a bit more suspense.

I usually love all of Minka Kent's books. Sadly this one was a bit of a let down. I felt it wrapped up too neatly and too quickly. There was also not really a big twist as promised by other reviews (or perhaps it just was super obvious what the twist was from the get go). Narrator was good though. And I didn't hate the story, it was just pretty predictable.

3.5 stars

Quick read. Jade Westmore is a happy newlywed living in her husbands family estate. Jade is a writer working on a biography of her husband's famous grandmother. Oddly, Wells' first wife Sylvie lives in a cottage in the back. She hasn't spoken in three years since she had an accident. Jade went to see her and got a message from Sylive to "run".

Jade starts to question her life, husband, mother in law and neighbors to learn more.

Narration by Christine Lakin and Kate Rudd was good.

Whenever I’m in the mood for a twisty thriller that I can enjoy in one or two sittings I grab for a Minka Kent book. While this book held my interest the plot felt fairly predictable, although I’m pleased that there were parts I didn’t have totally figured out. Overall this was a quick and enjoyable listen and the narration was excellent.

This was a terrific thriller. I listened to it as an audiobook and the narrators were fantastic. I definitely was thrown off the trail several times!

*Thank you NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for an advanced audiobook*

I enjoyed this book, it had me guessing all the way through, wondering who could be the perpetrator. I like how everything was brought together in the end. I recommend this book for anyone who wants to be kept on their toes!
Kudos to the narrators for capturing each characters personality. I think their voices matched the characters perfectly. Excellent pacing throughout and flowed very well. Each voice was distinct and made differentiation very easy. The narration really brought the book to life. This was a seamless audiobook!

What if your husband's ex-wife still lived on the property? Lots of secrets and lies in this twisty story. Who is the real villian?

This was a good audio thriller! I was expecting more of a twist but overall the story was good. The narrator was great and made it an easy listen!

This is my first Minka Kent book. I’ve heard good things about this author, so I will try another of her books. The story kept my interest, but was expecting a twist that never came.
Thank you, NetGalley, and Blackstone Publishing for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC! Jade has found the man of her dreams in Wells. There’s just one catch, Sylvie, his ex-wife turned mute, who requires constant care. Wells insists on keeping her nearby where he can care for her. Jade is impressed with Wells’ concern for ex-wife’s well being. When Sylvia’s caretaker has to leave for a family emergency, Jade is left with no choice but to check on her, and what she learns from that one visit has her questioning her marriage. She begins to spend more time with Sylvie and after learning from Well’s mother that things aren’t exactly what they seem, she has no choice but to confront her husband and save Sylvie and herself. While this was an okay read, I just didn’t love it, nor was I drawn to any of the characters.

I have loved all of Minka Kent's books. They are easy reads with great twists. This one fell flat for me. It was entirely too predictable. While the story was interesting and it did keep me engaged it was because I felt like the ending was going to go in a completely different direction. Overall I'm glad I read the book, but I do hope that this is going to be the new normal for Kent. The narrator was great.

I enjoyed this audiobook. It was fast paced with an engaging and enjoyable narrator. The story was good but was predictable. It is not always a bad thing to be predictable, but I was just waiting for a bigger twist. I would recommend this book to people who like Verity by Colleen Hoover.

Jade, recently married, has to live with her husbands ex-wife, Sylvie, living in their guest house. Sylvie suffered an accident that left her unable to speak, but as Jade gets to know her, she learns that Sylvie can express herself in other ways. Ways that will save both of their lives.

Being a second wife is never easy, but for Jade Westmore, it’s positively bizarre. Her new husband, Wells, has installed his first wife, Sylvie, in a cottage on their property. Jade has been told never to bother Sylvie, who is is a fragile emotional state since a nervous breakdown has left her mute. One day, when Wells is away, Jade ventures over to the cottage to give Sylvie a bouquet of flowers. She’s not expecting any reaction from the woman, whom she’s been told is non responsive, but to Jade’s shock, Sylvie gives her a note with a single world on it – Run. Alternating between the past and the present, Kent keep readers on their toes in this twist on the old “first wife in the attic” riff

This was a great modern Rebecca-esque thriller with a touch of Silent patient vibes as well. I really enjoyed it, especially on audio and was rooting for the wronged women to get their revenge. Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early audio copy in exchange for my honest review.

I enjoyed this book. I am glad that it ended the way that it did, however, I wouldn't really call it a "twist." I predicted the outcome from the beginning. I guess that would be my biggest complaint on this one - that it seemed a bit predictable. Nothing really came as a surprise to me.

That being said, I am a sucker for a good "woman saves woman - girl power" style story, so that definitely resonated with me. Despite the fact that I found it predictable, I did enjoy the writing and quite a few aspects of the story. I guess if you go into this one thinking more "mystery" and less "twisty thriller," you will not be disappointed.
