This is fun, sexy, and steamy historical romance. I love the interaction between the characters and how they fall in love despite themselves. It’s a great book.

I loved the opening of this one, but it slowed down for me after that and I couldn’t get back into it. I love other Schupe works and others in this series, but I ended up DNF-ing this one, unfortunately. For others, though, I’m sure they’d love it and not mind the way the plot unfolds.

I Love reading good written Historic Romance and this one was perfect. If J could give 1000 stars to the story I would. There is no dull moment there.

The chemistry between the characters was fire. Trust me you want to meet The Duke of Lockwood.
A must read.

The Duke Gets Even was the perfect conclusion to this series. Joanna Shupe is an auto-buy. Whatever she writes, I will read.

The Fifth Avenue Rebels series has been so much fun and I've been so excited to read Nellie's book. As always, Shupe delivers a great story with some great steam. I think my hopes were so so high for this that I was left wanting a bit more but overall I still loved this and I'm eagerly awaiting news of what Shupe's next book will be!

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book is as luxurious and sexy as the cover. I am well known as someone who adores Joanna Shupe and I was delighted to find that this book was no different. By the time this book in the series came around i was FERAL for the Dukes story. This book did not disappoint. I can already tell it will be one that I will want to go back and read again and again.
Also, SO SEXY!!!

The duke gets even is the fourth book in "The fifth avenue rebels" series, written by Joanna shupe. Andrew, the Duke of Lockwood, is in desperate need of an heiress, especially a rich one. Eleanor Young is a far cry from the virginal heiress the English are used to, but there's something about her that seems to captivate Lockwood. After their chance encounter in the ocean, at night, they seem to gravitate towards each other. It doesn't help when Lockwood seems to pursue every unmarried friend of Nellie. And so the hatred keeps growing... Yet hatred and love have a common denominator: passion!
I love historical romance and I have been wanting to read a book by Joanna Shupe since forever. This one did not disappoint me in the least! The pace was wonderful; it was a herculean task to stop reading, honestly. There was a lot of dry humour, which is always appreciated. And the banter, the complicity between the main characters and the spiciness of it added a lot of color to the plot. I also have to mention the social commentary regarding women's right to reproduce, which were non-existent in this period of our history and, unfortunately, is still a point of debate in today's society in many countries. I always find it commendable when authors use their work for more than telling a compelling story, and Joanna Shupe certainly delivered it with "The Duke gets even". I can't wait to read more of her work!

Another historical romance that couldn't find balance between romance and plotline. Shupe drops her characters into the story with insta-lust and then like never has them meaningfully interact ever after that point. Lockwood spend a lot of the book looking for other matches and Nellie is doing her own thing so the romance felt stilted and unnatural instead of obvious. I liked the characters individually, though I thought Lockwood could use some work but Dukes are Dukes I guess. Unfortunately, I found myself putting this one down a lot and the general sweetness of it is the only think that kept me going. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed the other books in this series.

I loved this one so, so much. Joanna Shupe killed it with this surprise first meeting that explains so much about the previous books! I love that she's been holding onto that all this time. I also really loved this pairing more than I expected. Another great book in the series.

Nope, nope, nope. This book wasn't for me. I didn't like Nelllie. I liked the duke but there needed to be more substance to him. They spoke to each other like they were from the 21st century. It just didn't work for me.

And with that, Joanna Shupe closed out her most ambitious and dimensional series yet! This series had high highs and low lows for me personally, but overall, this was a really solid and satisfying conclusion. We love conversation about contraception and abortion in historical romance and Nelly is honestly the kind of historical heroine I want to be like when I grow up. Fun, sexy, and totally fulfilling the promise of the premise.

Thanks to Avon for the ARC.

Andrew Lockwood is a Duke that needs to marry a rich woman to save his title and possessions. Nellie has ruined herself for marriage so that she can do as she pleases in secret. She meets Andrew at the ocean one night and they share a passionate kiss and more for some time. The two have the same tastes in the bedroom as well as out of it. A fun, steamy read full of adventure.

I received a copy of this book via Netgalley.

Definitely my favorite story out of the four books and well worth the wait for the satisfying happily ever after for Nellie and Lockwood. I always have a soft spot for worldly heroines, sassy heroes, quippy banter and a solid enemies to lovers. Highly recommend for historical romance readers looking for something extra special.

The relationship between the duke and Nellie felt superficial. Heat was there but the beginning felt too insta-lust and that usually is not my thing. It’s fast paced and full of heat. Nellie was a woman that pursued her pleasure, no matter what anyone says.

I ended up really enjoying this one, it was such a perfect conclusion to the series. After several near misses throughout the previous books, we finally got to see the Duke of Lockwood get his HEA! I was also stoked to finally get Nellie’s book, and I knew she was going to be the perfect match for him.

Lockwood and Nellie were seriously the perfect pairing. They were both so strong willed and independent in their own right, but when they came together they really seemed to compliment and balance each other out. I loved how obsessed Lockwood was with Nellie immediately after their ocean rendezvous, and how we was willing to throw all convention out the door for her without looking back.

The only reason why I didn’t rate this 5 stars was because I wanted just a little more from the plot. I really enjoyed and respected the conversations about social justice during the gilded age, but felt like it was thrown in a little too quickly at the end. But regardless, I really loved the romance and was thoroughly entertained.

I’m so sad this series is over but I can’t wait to see what Joanna Shupe comes up with next!!

This was my first novel by Joanna Shupe. I am also fairly new to historical romances, some I have loved and some I have not. The Duke Gets Even was paced very well. The spicy scenes were hot as hell and created good tension. My only complaint about the book was that the characters sometimes had traits that did not totally make sense given other aspects and the relationship seemed largely to be based on sex with just too little development of their emotional intimacy. It was there, but not enough for a really great book to me. The main character, Ellie, had this wonderful feminist pursuit, yet, at times she seemed to have a "not like other girls" attitude. That didn't totally align to me. Overall, this was an enjoyable read, but maybe not one I return to.
