This is a sweet story of a girl, Sasha, and a sloth. Sasha learns a lesson in patience and also a lesson in enjoying the moment. Throughout the story readers see Sasha having to deal with frustration, anger and the challenges of teamwork and friendship. These are great lessons for a young child to learn as well. The illustrations in the story were adorable too. It was so cute watching Sasha try to convince the sloth to hurry so they could swim and also cute how Mr. Sloth was trying to get Sasha to slow down and appreciate the small moments on the way. Liked the resource on the last page with suggestions for children on things to do when you have to wait.

It's a sweltering hot day and Sasha Patience Pruitt wants to cool down and go for a swim to escape the heat. Her best friend Mr. Sloth is invited along for this adventure but like all sloths he takes his time getting ready to go. He slow-walks everything.

Sasha is all packed and ready to depart and she tries her hardest to get sleepy, lethargic Mr. Sloth moving along with little success. Sasha is not impressed and grumbles, "You are taking forever!" While she waits she knits and reads and knits and reads until it's finally swim on!!! Or is it?

Oh no, after a few more delays... okay quite a few more delays... Sasha strikes out on her own and angrily enters into the water solo. She is determined to go it alone and have fun swimming and splashing around but then she makes a discovery...

"Swimming is all I wanted to do today," she said not splashing at all. "Except Mr. Sloth isn't swimming with me."

Slowly and calmly she swims back to her friend and apologizes for yelling and getting angry at him. It's time to return back home and along the way the two friends enjoy each other's company knowing that tomorrow is another day to resume their swim date.

The illustrations are amazing. They are bold, colourful, and the characters are expressive and full of emotion and animation. I love them a lot. You can sense Sasha's lack of patience and frustration and Mr. Sloth's calm and steadfast persona. The author includes some very helpful and doable suggestions at the end to apply if one feels stressed and impatient. The book is a winner on all levels and I highly, highly recommend it!

I can see what this book was trying to accomplish, but I don't feel that it succeeds. Reading it as an adult, I can understand that there's a set amount of time needed to be able to swim, so really you can't sit around and be patient about getting ready. Thinking of it as a child, I feel it sends the message that if you take forever to do something, that's okay; people should just wait around for you and maybe it can be done the next day. I feel that the encouragement is more geared toward being slow-moving than having patience. There was a little bit of the latter in the end, but leading up to that, I think that kids will come away with the wrong message.

Waiting on Mr. Sloth
5 Stars

Waiting on Mr. Sloth teaches the valuable lesson of patience and flexibility. It can be very difficult to wait when you're excited about doing something fun or new. I love the darling artwork throughout this book. It only enhances a great story. The artwork is colorful, the text clear and easy-to-read. Sasha's and Mr. Sloth's expressive faces and body language really stood out to me. I felt Sasha's,lack of patiences and frustration, while Mr. Sloth's is calm. I absolutely loved suggestions/ solutions about what to do when you are upset or waiting.

Overall, it's an outstanding book. Great for any library, public or private! It's difficult as adults to hurry up and wait, and can be even more challenging when you're a small child. This book is definitely a more gentle way to start this conversation. Thank you, NetGalley and Capstone, for an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is such a sweet story about a young girl and get best friend sloth going swimming. As you can imagine, the sloth is moving far too slowly for Sasha's. Sasha slowly becomes more and more frustrated about how slowly things are moving.

This book teaches child that sometimes we get frustrated and things go wrong and we just need to slow down and take a big deep breath. This book teaches children the importance of patience and waiting and gives some great suggestions for waiting at the back of the book.

This dialogue from the sloth is fantastic. A great book for reading aloud with expression

I loved the illustrations in this one. Lots of bright colours and details which will may it a joy for children of all ages to read.

Sasha wakes up early, ready to go for a swim with her best friend, Mr. Sloth. But Mr. Sloth likes to take his owwwnnn sweeett… tiimmeee to ready. Sasha is impatient as things delay her plan. Finally, she decides to swim alone but doesn’t enjoy it. She realizes swimming with Mr. Sloth is more fun than just swimming.
This is an adorable little book with a sweet message and wonderful illustrations. I love the detailing on each page and how easy it is to make a picture book inclusive without making it apparent. My favorite is the page where Sasha knits and reads and knits and reads when waiting for Mr. Sloth.
The font is neat and in a decent size. It is spaced around the illustrations, making it easy to read the story. Sasha’s expression sync with the text. She’s such a cutie pie! The story is a wee bit rushed towards the end, but the rest makes up for it. The moral is well-presented, with a touch of mischief and fun.
To summarize, Waiting on Mr. Sloth is a super cute book for little ones to sit and read instead of rushing from one place to another. ;)

This is a delightful picture book. I loved it. Mr Sloth is very slow, and Sasha is tired of waiting for him. Several times she gets very frustrated and annoyed, but she uses breathing and counting techniques to calm her emotions. While Sasha is caught up in her own emotions she doesn’t realise Mr Sloth is also a bit frustrated with her. A beautiful way to teach children about emotions, waiting and being a good friend. The illustrations are perfect. Highly recommend.

What a gorgeous story with such a great message! ‘Waiting on Mr. Sloth’ by Katy Hudson is a story about best friends and main characters Sasha and Mr. Sloth going swimming on a hot day, whilst Sasha began to lose patience at how long Mr. Sloth was taking. It would be a fantastic book to read to young children to teach them about feeling big emotions like frustration and anger, and how to deal with them positively with things like breath work. The book is filled with beautiful illustrations that I’m sure many children & adults combined will adore 🤍

Fun book with a moral, as a young girl and her sloth friend (yes, a real sloth, not just a lazybones human) intend to have a day swimming together. Well, she does at least – the sloth is on rather a more chilled timescale, of course. The virtues of patience and the idea of things being more than worth the wait are the focus, and everything is portrayed nicely sharply, from the great visual craft to the way the sloth’s speech is portrayed as if a 45 record were played at 33 (ask a grandparent). An easy four stars.

Super cute book. It gives meaning to Patience Is a Virtue when your best friend is a sloth.
Great illustrations that when right along with the text.

This is a lovely little book about being patient and taking the time to get the most out of something. I LOVED that at the end of the book there is a little list of things a child can do while they wait.

The book is enjoyable to read and the lesson in it is important for kids. The illustrations are super cute. This is one your child will want to read and reread! I can also see it as an awesome read-aloud book because I bet children will laugh at a grown-up doing Mr. Sloth's voice. "Tiiiiiimmme . . . to . . . go . . . swiiiiiimmmmmm."

Cute kids book on the importance of being patient. It is an important skill to learn as most adults still don’t have it all figured out either!

Have a friend you are always waiting for? What if they were a sloth? Sometimes waiting can be hard, but in the end all things come in their own time.

This is such a cute book about patience and waiting! I love the way that the words that the sloth speaks are drawn out so if you were reading it aloud it would be easy to sound like a sloth.

Adorable book about having patience and how it can be frustrating when not being on the same page with someone. But to take a deep breath and communicate.
Also Mr Sloth is very cute. As is Frank
