This is a book of anthologies, which I do wish had been made clearer in the tags and description. I never usually read anthologies, but because this one is sci-fi/spacey, I decided to still give it a go.

There is nothing wrong with this book, it's tidy, well written and quick to read.. it's just that anthologies and short stories aren't for me :)

Stars: 4 out of 5.

I actually liked this collection better than Vox Astra: The Black Box. The stories resonated more with me, I guess. I was surprised to see that some stories happened in the same universe than a couple stories in the other collection. Like the story about the tanks with human brains inside that happens in the same universe as the story about the warrior dogs in the first book.

My favorite by far would be When Clouds Die, because the planet described is fascinating and a bit like Pandora from the Avatar movies... with an ancient alien civilization twist. Is it me, or was that rising island a bit Lovecraftian in nature? It gave me some very uneasy vibes.

Anyway, I enjoyed this collections and it is a quick read if you have an afternoon to kill.

PS: I received an advanced copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is pretty good. The stories were similar in a lot of ways, which reduced my enjoyment. Nonetheless, Chambers writes well. I liked his other collection as well.

Thanks very much for the free review copy for review!

Another great SF collection from James Chambers. I really enjoyed each story, but would say The Pyres of Galeb-Hannastur was my favorite. Can't wait for more from James Chambers. #VoxAstra #NetGalley

another great scifi book from James Chambers, it had what I enjoyed from the previous works. I was a fan from the Corpse Fauna series and am always excited to read something new from him. This had what I was hoping for and enjoyed every part of this book. The characters were what I was expecting and am glad I read this.

"Osrun resumed reading the scanner display. “You’ve got your figures wrong.” “No, I don’t,” Wester said. “Lascalli Energy sent that ship here overloaded. Or it was a fully armed Lima Class freighter disguised as a Catalan. Or that wreckage is from more than one ship. Care to explain what really happened to the Babylon?”
