What Have We Done is very different from Alex Finlay’s previous books. The last Finlay book I read was more of a detective mystery but this one was a full-on action-packed thriller. The short chapters made it super easy to fly through and it was super entertaining!

In this fast-paced thriller by Alex Finlay, three people, once connected when they all lived in the same group home, are now in danger of their very lives. Their lives have taken completely different directions, yet an event from their once shared past just might be the ruination of them all.

Something happened 25 years ago when five teens were all involved. One has been killed and now three of them are being hunted by a pair of twin psychopaths. They are assassins with a very specific motive and now Nico, Jenna and Donnie are all desperately trying to stay alive.

We will begin with Jenna. At the tender age of fifteen, she was recruited to become an assassin of a secret corporation. She eventually retired, married and became a stay-at-home mother of two girls, one a problematic teen stepdaughter. Although retired, she is forced to take another assignment, one which could end up costing her her life, and also the lives of her family.

Nico is successful in his career as a television producer, but finds himself trapped in a mine when they were filming. Nico barely escaped with his life. What is more is that Nico was more than a show producer. In fact, he is highly in debt to an Irish mob. and he wonders if it is them who might be after him.

Lastly, there is Donnie, a famous rock star who is also in jeopardy. His drug addiction might be his downfall, but for now he is being hunted, just like Nico and Jenna are.

The three met as kids at a home called Savior House and the story occasionally goes back to that time, but the present is where most of the story takes place. Very interesting premise and the story moves along nicely and comes to a satisfying conclusion. Factor in the four narrators and a good story is made batter.

This was a very good thriller. I really enjoyed it. The characters and the plot were so well done. I definitely recommend it for thriller readers!

25 years ago Jenna, Donnie and Nico were the best of friends, relying on each other to make it through their time at Savior House, a group home for parentless teens. Things weren’t easy at Savior House, especially where kids started disappearing, including one of their friends. When the home is shut down due to these disappearances and the friends are sent their separate ways the three lose contact, but they have now been brought back together due to one commonality: someone is trying to kill them. If they hope to survive they must not only work together, but they must confront the nightmares of their pasts, as well as a secret that they share.

The thing I liked the most about this novel is that it is told from the perspectives of many narrators, allowing me as a reader to immerse myself in each of their stories. I also liked the nonlinear timeline and the way in which the past and the present were woven together to tell the entire story. It was fast-paced and entertaining, I just wish it was a little less predictable.

An Alex Finlay novel will always have my hands all over it. What Have We Done tells the tale of five now-grown adults who as children lived together for a short time at a foster home in Pennsylvania. They haven’t seen each other since they were teenagers, but now someone is hunting them and wants them dead. But why? And who?
And so ensues the chaos of Jenna, Donnie and Nico. I was hooked right from the beginning to see how this story would play out, and the cast of characters did not disappoint. I pride myself on being able to figure out the twists of a story, but this one I did not completely figure out before the end of the story.

It took twenty five years for a secret to catch up with Jenna, Donnie and Nico. Their lives are at stake so they have to figure out how to outsmart the past.

I liked the book. The characters were fresh and interesting. I enjoyed that the story took me through the secret in the past and I tried to guess who is trouble in the present.

Alex Finlay crafts another solid thriller with What Have We Done. While I didn't love this one as much as other Finlay books I've read, this was a quick read that kept me guessing.

This was an action pack thriller with 4 friends who grew uo in a group home together, I had a little difficulty following the plot, but that was due to the characters, past/present etc. This is my first book by the author and I definitely look forward to others. It was a solid read and I would recommend it to others. I did not see the ending coming.

Four childhood friends, all living in a group home (due to home circumstances) bonded at the home where they suffered severe abuse. This abuse led the kids to commit an act together that they held close as a secret. Once the group home got shut down due to the abuse the kids were all separated. Twenty five years later a lot has changed. Jenna is now a stepmother and wife living a suburban life, but with a secret past only her husband knows about. Donnie is a washed up rock star, singing with his band on a cruise ship. Nico works in tv production on a reality show, and surfers from a gambling addiction. Ben was Donnie’s protector and a judge who ends up dead. Strange things start happening with the three remaining friends. Both Donnie and Nico have attempts made on their lives. Jenna is put in a position where her past life (after leaving the group home) resurfaces and puts her family in danger. Everything that is happening is tied to their past As the trio race to find out who is after them, they will be faced with confronting their pasts and realizing things and people aren’t as they seem.

My first Alex Finlay book but I anticipate there will be more to come in my future. I love this fast paced storyline about kids with a dark past who grew up together before tragedy separated them and tragedy reunited them again. Jenna, Donnie and Nicole grew up together at Savior House, a home for teens without parents and were ultimately separated until adulthood. When one of their own ends up dead, the three find each other again to face assassins who are trying to put an end to them all. Overall a great story that kept me turning pages right through the end.

This book was okay, but not a slam dunk for me. I wish I would have listened to this on audio with my husband, as he loves action movies.

Not my favorite from this author, but definitely worth a read!

I had really high hopes for this one, but it wasn't for me. It felt like an action movie that my husband would watch, so there's definitely an audience for this, but it wasn't me.

I appreciate the chance to read it, and I'll recommend it to action-lovers, though!

I anticipated this being more horror/thriller than action. Not a big action girly. That's not to say it wasn't good, just not for me.

I needed more character development and more thrill/mystery/build up, less action.

I didn't love the characters, which is a huge deal breaker for me.

I received What Have We Done by Alex Finlay on @Netgalley earlier this year. I was so excited in the moment to try it out since I have enjoyed his previous two books. However I didn’t hear the best of things and it caused me to continue putting it off. I finally decided to put a hold for the audiobook in from my library to help me finally get to it.

What Have We Done follows a group of people who at one time knew each other when they were living in a group home. It’s now years later and they are all living their own lives. However they seem to be getting targeted by someone and they have to come together again to figure out who is after them.

I’m disappointed to say that the negative things I had been hearing were right. This is my least favorite of the 3 books I’ve read by this author. I found it to be really confusing and lackluster. I didn’t care for any of the characters. It comes off more action movie than thriller. Listening to the audio made it difficult to figure out what timeline I was in. It didn’t clearly show if we were jumping back in time or if we were in the current timeline. It jumps from one thing to the next very quickly without much development, which made it hard to really connect with anyone or anything that was happening. I contemplated dnfing it a couple of times due to lack of investment. I find even being only a few weeks removed that it was kind of a forgettable story. Bits and pieces stand out, but everything else kind of fades to grey.

After The Night Shift, I was thrilled to get ahold of this one. While I really enjoyed it, I didn't like it quite as much as The Night Shift. I loved the characters and I couldn't put the book down; I had to know what happened to each of them. I do wish that there had more information on what happened in the past, but overall, a great read and I can't wait for Finlay's next book.

This book was really good. I read it in one day. I would definitely recommend this book. It had me on the edge of my seat with all the twists! It is a must read!

This book was fast paced from the beginning; probably something similar to a blockbuster movie. For me, it was difficult to track all the characters as there was a lot of back stories flipping from past to present. It was a lot of who dunnit and what the heck is going on. It's fun to see the how it all plays out but it didn't hook me from start to finish. There were characters I was more invested in and others I skipped over. They payoff was that I didn't see the reveal coming and that's always something!

I disliked this book because of the disjointed characters and olot lines. It was really a spy book, with characters i disliked.

What Have We Done is a solid read by author Alex Finlay. At first I will admit I was a bit confused as to how everything was going to fit together. The story does go back and forth from past to present, but once I really got into it I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery/thriller! I would definitely read more from Finley!
