Crochet Magical Creatures is a fun collection of 20 stuffed amigurumi patterns. I would say these patterns are for advanced beginners because you need to know how to crochet in the round. I found the patterns to be well written with clear photos.
Among the cute patterns are Leonard the Dandy-Lion, Zinnia the Garden Fairy and Quentin the Gnome. All are adorable. There's a section on hook size, assembly, yarn and tips on making your amigurumi unique like by adding powder blush to the cheeks or using glitter yarn. There's also a breakdown of the different in UK and US stitches as well as a guide for the basic amigurumi stitches needed to crochet the toys in this book.
Overall, this is a great pattern book for any crocheter's shelf.

This is a book for every library. Your personal library, your public library, your academic library, your art library...

This book was well done and has great pictures of the creatures you can create. I especially liked the general information and the list of everything you would need to do the projects. The instructions were simple to follow and understand. I appreciated the general crochet knowledge at the beginning of the book and also the glossary at the end. These creatures would make great baby or children's gifts.

Extremely cute and easy to follow even for someone as inexperienced as myself. Definitely will be on the lookout for a hard copy to add to my shelves.

Crochet Magical Creatures was published in September 2022. Thank you to Callisto Media, Rockridge Press, NetGalley and the author for the ARC.

Extremely cute. I can’t crochet so that’s the extent of my ability to assess this. To me it looks like a good purchase for school, public and academic libraries Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for access in exchange for an honest review.

I've been going back and forth on trying my hand at amigurumi. The patterns in this book are clear and easy enough for a beginner to follow with excellent results. It's definitely a great resource book to add to my collection.

Crochet Magical Creatures is an appealing and all-skill-levels friendly collection of 20 crocheted mythical creatures by Drew Hill. Released 22 Sept 2022 by Callisto on their Rockridge Press imprint, it's 166 pages and available in paperback and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately. For Kindle Unlimited subscribers, this book is currently included in the KU subscription library to borrow and read for free.

The book has a short introductory chapter covering some basic techniques and materials, and moves directly into the tutorials. The introduction does have a how-to-crochet tutorial with clear line drawings illustrating the steps. I think that even a complete beginner could learn the basics from the intro (plus some patience and possibly a little side help from youtube... but not impossible anyhow).

The projects are -adorable- and include a little dragon, "caticorn" (both shown on the cover), jackalope, kitsune, garden fairy, gnome, and 14 more. All of them are really cute and recognizable, and will make welcome gifts or for readers to keep for themselves. I like that the author doesn't mention brand names, but does a good job explaining yarn weights and how to choose in the mini-tutorial introduction.

Five stars. This is a wonderful collection.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Although I didn't make anything from this pattern book as I don't have time, the patterns seem beautifully detailed and the introduction and glossary are PERFECT for new crocheters. It has everything you could possibly need from simply the basics of crocheting, to all the terms you could need WITH detailed information on said terms. I also love how each pattern has a little bit of information about the thing you are making, I think that's such a cute touch.

This is good for people who are pros at crochet, to people who have never picked up a hook and yarn EVER. I will definitely be recommending this to my friends who want to learn how to crochet

Such cute patterns! This book is handy both for experienced crocheters and those new to amigurimi and crochet itself. The patterns are well written with lots of tips and instructions. Everything is laid out clearly.

There are so many cute magical creatures to make from this book including a kitsune, a flying pig, mermaid, and of course the classic dragon. I decided to go with the magical mushroom and I think it turned out really cute! I learned some new techniques. There was even a Little explanation on how to sew limbs on which I found helpful. I still struggled a bit but it went better than my previous attempts.

I can’t wait to try more of the amigurumi patterns. If you like crocheting or want to pick up a new hobby besides reading, this book might be fun for you.

Well this was an absolute pleasure to read! Although crafty books can sometimes be hard to actually read as there are various technical components that need to be read only if you are following the instructions while making them, this book can absolutely be read as a how to crochet guide, introduction to amigurumi and an instruction manual for these gorgeous creatures. I love the humourous way that the author has written each segment and can absolutely relate to his ogre fingers! This book is perfect for beginners as it includes a funny way of choosing materials, describing what is best and really detailed pictures of stitches. I thank Drew Hill, his publishers and Netgalley for this temporary copy in exchange for an honest review and will have to seek this book out again as I won't have time to finish too many glorious creatures before having to relinquish it.

This book is exceptional for a first try at amigurumi or for an experienced crocheter. Making tiny unicorns or other creatures is well presented here, along with hook sizes and recommended yarns. Well worth the read.

I just reviewed Crochet Magical Creatures by Drew Hill. I haven't had a chance to crochet any of these magical creatures yet but looking over the patterns they look great. My daughter instantly fell in love with several and they're not on my list of things to make. The pictures and patterns are clear and well laid out. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves to crochet amigurumi.
