How to Catch a Daddysaurus is a colourful picture book by Alice Walstead. It is the latest addition to the ‘How to Catch’ series. The book is meant for children in the 4-8 years age category.

The Catch Club Kids, a group of sprightly children, attempts to trap a Daddysaurus — a mystical creature capable of such amazing acts of kindness, bravery, brilliance, and humour.

It was heart-warming to read a book showing fathers in a positive light.

The illustrations are fabulous—bright, colourful, and diverse. But since the book is meant for children in the 4-8 years age group, I feel the characters could have been more appropriate for the targeted audience group. Instead of a bunch of teens, pictures of younger kids would make it more relatable.

Kindness, keeping fit, taking care of things, the importance of good eating habits, appreciation for nature, working hard, and interest in STEM are a few of the topics covered.

The rhyming verses are fun, but early readers might find them slightly difficult to navigate through. The vocabulary is not very simple and thus gives younger kids an opportunity to learn unfamiliar words.

This book is a perfect Father’s Day gift!

I’ve read a bunch of the books in this series, and this is probably the weakest. The meter isn’t great for reading out loud and the message isn’t totally clear. I feel like maybe this series has run it’s course.

After enjoying a previous book in the how to catch series I wanted to pick up another one.
This felt different from the other book as the verse didn’t flow aswell and it felt forced in some places. The daddy Saures wasn’t a mythical creatur I wasn’t familiar while the other installments focused on a familiar one. The illustrations were just as pretty as the previous one.
Overall still a cute read.

Thanks to SOURCEBOOKS Kids, Sourcebooks Wonderland and NetGalley for the advanced readers copy.

In this How to Catch book the kids need to catch the Daddysaurus. The illustration were beautiful! The content of the book felt different than the rest of the series. The flow of the verse while reading was also not as smooth. Still an enjoyable book!

How to catch a Daddysaurus by Alice Walstead is a very cute book about what our daddies teach us with wonderful pictures.

A super cute book about Dads. Would make a great gift for kids or Dads (even new Dads or a soon to be Dad!)

The book encourages positive character traits & shows Dad to be a positive role model.

Well done, thank you! We get so tired of the Dad bashing books....this one is definitely not that!

There's even a page in the book for a child to draw a picture or write a note to their Dad. Very cool!!

(I am an advance reader & was able to preview this book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.)

This is probably my least favorite book in this How to Catch series of children’s books. The rhyming felt forced and the writing style wasn’t my favorite in this particular story. It didn’t flow off my tongue while reading to the kids like the other stories by this author have. It’s still cute but we wouldn’t buy this one to own.

This author is still one of our kids favorites though and this story does not deter us from the rest of her books.

I have all the "How to Catch a" books, in my classroom and will probably add How to Catch a Daddysaurus by Alice Walstead to the collection. However, this is not my favorite in the series. I felt that the kids in the story were not relatable since this book is read by a much younger audience. I did not feel the flow of the language used as I do with the other books either. I am sure that this is going to be a big hit especially for Father's Day, but there was definitely a disconnect for me.

Adorable and entertaining! It is fun to see how the featured creature (or person) finds way to avoid being sighted by the curious children. These books are a favorite in our household and this one did not disappoint! A hit with the littles as always! This will be a great read for Father's Day or a birthday!

For the illustrations, I would give this a 5/5! The illustrations were cute, easy to understand and included different races which is always a great thing to see!
The book read a little choppy to me. I would find it a bit hard to read to a child. The concept was great and overall the book was very cute.

My students and I are big fans of the To Catch A…. Books. I love the premise of this story and it has a cute story! I think the illustrations are beautiful but I feel like the children look more like teenagers in the story. Since this book is marketed towards younger children, I feel like the illustrations should match that to help grab their interest. With that being said, I still would recommend this book!

Simply adorable! Read this one to my little girl who delighted in the pictures even though she can't understand the words (toddler). Such a lovely and special book which showcases all the things that daddies do every day to love their children. A definite fathers day purchase!
Thanks to the author and Netgalley for the temporary copy in exchange for an honest review.

This series is always super popular among the kiddos that visit my library. The Daddysaurus is sure to be a big hit. I predict it will be well circulated around Father's Day.

I have read a lot of the books in this series, and while I enjoy most of them, this one fell a little flat for me. Most of the series focuses on a well known mystical creature, such as an elf, a mermaid (one of our favorites in the series), etc. But this one focused on a "daddysaurus", which, while clearly was referencing a father, got a bit lost with my younger reader.

This was a read aloud with my daughters (ages 4 and 7). They both really enjoyed the story! The digital formatting was a little difficult to follow, but that is not reflected in this review.

What I liked: cute rhymes, praise for great daddies
What didn't work for me: the "catch" aspect of the book didn't flow as well as the other "how to catch.." books we've read.

I really enjoyed this title. What a lovely story of dads and their roles and influences in our children’s lives. The importance of balance, play, and love. I also really loved the illustrations and the inclusion within them. It’s so easy to catch a Daddysaurus, all you need is what we already have in our hearts. Darling book, would definitely purchase and recommend.

As both a mom of two boys and a person who has worked in early childhood education for over 20 years, I am passionate about children’s literature. Having two boys, I am quite the connoisseur of dinosaur-themed books. The illustrations are absolutely adorable and make the story come to life! As I read I was delighted to see that the book text was not full of making fun of daddies and men. I enjoyed that it celebrated all of the positive characteristics of fathers. The only negative, to me, is the unevenness of the rhymes in the text. Overall, it is a cute addition to any library or child’s bookshelf.

This book is creative, cute, and fun! It is a good addition to the How To Catch series. Children from ages 2-7 may enjoy this book the most!

This book is the cutest! And it looks like we are reading a graphic novel with full page colourful illustrations! The artwork is so good. The writing is fun and playful.
Thumbs up to all the amazing dads around the world!

Love it. Do get it when it comes out!

Thank you, SOURCEBOOKS Kids, for the advance reading copy.
