I thought that the second book in this series would've been my absolute favorite but this was because I hadn't read this one yet: it's simply marvelous! Enthralling narration, a storyline that draws you in and will keep you glued with red herrings and open questions whose answers are not easy to guess. Ioved the development of the characters and of the relationships between them.

I love crime shows (like Rizzoli & Isles or Bones. Yes all strong and extraordinary women) and I love true crime shows and what I used to love a lot is the Dexter series in the past. Why am I writing this? Because this book is a great mix of all these wonderful topics and, therefore, a very interesting, exciting and definitely unique mystery thriller story.

Even though that's the 3rd book in the series and I haven't read the first two books, it didn't detract from the story at all.
The books are all standalones.

What all these books have in common are, of course, the characters and the main character is Doctor Gretchen White.

If you like stories about strong, slightly crazy (in this case a very crazy one) woman who isn't scared of anything and will do almost anything to get what they want (in this case the murder), then this is a story for you.

Let's just say Doctor Gretchen is a very excellent psychologist and also the best investigation person you can find. What she is not, however, is empathetic or considerate.

It takes time to get used to her rude demeanor, but once you get to know her, you won't be able to stop reading about her.

This is a flawless written, fast-paced, suspense-packed story.
I have more than four different suspects up to 90% on this book 😬
It was a great exciting story.
I enjoyed this book and will definitely read the first 2 books soon.

This is the third in the Gretchen White series, and my favorite! The title suggests that it's the last in the series, and while it took me a minute to warm up to it, I'm sad to see it end! (haha pun not intended)
*
In this book, Gretchen finds her friend Detective Lauren Marconi literally with blood on her hands, and she turns herself in for murdering a man she had apparently been using police resources to stalk for years. She tells Gretchen not to investigate, but of course she does.
*
This is fast, we have alternating POVs between three characters, including Gretchen and Lauren, and alternating timeframes. And it becomes obvious very quickly that the man Lauren allegedly murdered may have not been completely innocent himself.
*
I missed the banter between Lauren and Gretchen, but it was really fun to see how Gretchen's relationship develops with the other detective who joins her.
*
I did guess the ending pretty early on (at least one part of it), based completely on what we know about Lauren's ethics from the previous two books. But there were a ton of twists throughout that kept me guessing and invested.
*
One small thing that annoyed me was that a lot of this was based on kids who had gone missing, and everyone (parents, cops, townspeople) always referred to the kids as having been murdered, with no evidence of that. In one situation, they debated why a suspect would kill the kid, as opposed to just kidnapping him, despite no evidence that's what happened.
*
I very much enjoyed this, and hope there is more to come for Gretchen!

See It End is a tense drama of a murder committed and confessed to. But criminologist and sociopath, Dr. Gretchen White, doesn't believe Detective Marconi would commit such a sloppy crime. In an unemotional effort to prove her friends innocence, Gretchen sets out on a path to discover the psychology and the history behind Lauren's reasons for wanting this man dead. Using a nonlinear structure, Labuskes takes the reader back to the beginning when the characters first meet and where Lauren's suspicions find their foundation. The author gradually builds this thrilling mystery of what happened using the determination of her sociopathic heroine. The end is truly a surprise series of events. I am hooked on reading more of Dr. Gretchen White's adventures in criminology.

Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for the eARC.

I really enjoy Brianna Labuskes Gretchen White series. Gretchen’s mind is so fun to be in.

I enjoyed the multiple POV and timeline of this novel, and really loved the friendship between Gretchen and Lauren. This is a series I’ll continue to reach for whenever a new one comes out!

A solid plot that kept on the edge and guessing, good storytelling and a tightly knitted plot that flow: this is the first book I read by this author and won't surely be the last.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine

I’ve read the first book in this series and now I really need to go back and catch up with the ones in between these stories.
The writing is amazing and draws you in from the first page and the story is so addictive that I had to read it in one sitting.

Gretchen and Lauren become more close than never when Lauren is hold up for murder and Gretchen must find the real killer. But it’s not that easy as she thinks it would be. She has to work alongside Lauren’s boyfriend and also abide by the rules while other colleagues have their eyes on her.

It’s so suspenseful and there are so many views and small pieces and clues left throughout each chapter for the readers to make their own assumptions. So cleverly done.

Unmissable thriller that will pump your adrenaline for a great rollercoaster ride.

Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy

This book begins with a confession by detective Lauren Marconi and a plea that Gretchen not investigate the murder. Of course Gretchen can’t resist. She teams up with Assistant DA Lochlan Gibbs, determined to prove her friend’s innocence and find out the truth.

This murder mystery is entwined with the larger mystery of what happened to a series of kidnapped boys. Marconi is convinced the boys’ cases are connected, plus she has a personal reason for seeking justice for the boys. Her search ultimately leads to her arrest while Gretchen and Gibbs work feverishly to free her.

Although it’s the third book in a series, it works well as a stand-alone novel. Labuskes didn’t give me the whole backstory, but there was enough explanation of the earlier books without it feeling overwhelming. And I had enough information to understand the characters and their relationships.

This book has both great characters and a great mystery. I especially loved the main character, Gretchen, who embraces and works with her personal flaws. Gibbs works as a perfect foil for her character, and I loved how they played off each other throughout the book.

This book kept me guessing until the end, which is just what I like in a thriller! I suspected five or six different characters throughout the book, and I was very satisfied by how it all wrapped up at the end.

Sensitive readers should be aware that this book contains mentions of child abuse, kidnapping, murder, and pedophilia.

I received an ARC of this book from Thomas & Mercer via NetGaley in exchange for my honest feedback. I have read other books by Ms. Labuskies and enjoyed them, so I eagerly requested this one without realizing it is part of a series. I generally hate starting a series with anything but the first book, so I was tempted to not continue reading. However, the fact that I missed the first two books in the series is really the only negative for me! The plot and characters are completely unique, which I appreciate given how many thrillers I read. Gretchen White is like the Edward Cullen of sociopaths. The level of research the author must have done to portray her is very impressive. I loved the dual timelines which added suspense - they were often vague but not frustratingly so. There are a lot of references to the previous books, which went over my head and which are also spoilers, so I definitely recommend reading books 1 & 2 first. Oh and I did not predict a single twist which is 5 stars for sure!

The third of the Dr. Gretchen White series, See It Ends by Brianna Labuskes is a mystery crime thriller, with an unusual protagonist. Gretchen is a specialist forensic psychologist in violent crimes, working with the Boston Police. When her colleague, Detective Lauren Marconi is arrested for murder, Gretchen knows she is not guilty as there wouldn’t be any clues left. The narrative unfolds in three women’s voices with Martha’s (before), Lauren’s (then) and Gretchen’s (now) investigations. With her cognitive dissonance and sociopathic tendencies, Gretchen White is not your typical detective, but there is no doubting her phenomenal capacity for finding the truth. Typical of Gretchen, her discovery of a serial killer and justice solution makes for another ingenious four and a half stars read rating. It will be interesting to see if there are more adventures of this unusual crime fighter, given the ending of the book. With thanks to Thomas & Mercer and the author for an uncorrected proof copy for review purposes. As always, the opinions herein are totally my own and freely given.

This is a favorite author that I read often with the third in the Dr. Gretchen White series. I’m a voracious crime, murder mystery, hard boiled detective and police procedurals reader. This flawlessly crafted psychological thriller is in a class by itself. Utterly jaw dropping! It’s setting is New England area with enough background that it can be read as a standalone.
Gretchen is a Sociopath and her character evokes lots of feelings. She’s at once frustrating, brilliant, maddeningly arrogant. She elicits sympathy, annoyance, dislike, aggravation, but I wanted to know what makes her this way. And after all those deeply felt emotions experienced while reading this, I was assured I’m not a sociopath like Gretchen – whew!
Gretchen occasionally consults for the Boston Police Department. The closest person to being her friend is detective Lauren Marconi. She’s put Gretchen in an awkward position by confessing to murder and telling her not to investigate.
Gretchen doesn’t follow Marconi’s plea. She pursues countless theories to prove Marconi didn’t commit murder, despite being warned to leave it alone. She has to disprove evidence that implicates her guilt. So many probable suspects, motives, hunches, and motives my mind was overwhelmed with the possibilities. The suspect bias theory had me in it’s grip and kept leading to one conclusion, I wasn’t close to the truth. The characters are as unexpected as the outcome of the plot. Pretty sure I went over the guardrail on one of the many hairpin twists of this ride. This is one of the rare books I would reread. I wanted to know what happened so intensely I raced through the pages and am sure I missed clues and nuances. Highly recommend!
Many thanks to NetGalley for the digital advance reader copy of “See It End” by Brianna Labuskes, Published by Thomas & Mercer. These are all my own honest personal thoughts and opinions given voluntarily without compensation.

I loved that part of this book was set in Vermont. While the descriptions of the towns were a little vague, they were accurate which was appreciated as not all are. This is the third book in a series but I read it as a stand alone and while there were relationships that might have clicked more if I had read the other two, but it isn't a necessity by any means. The alternating POV's and time lines created a slow build that had the last quarter to the book with a lot happening; creating twists and turn moments as well as ... "WHAT" thoughts. This was an easy read and enjoyable read that certainly kept my attention. Fans Labuskes and/or this series are sure to enjoy this book and it's worthwhile for others to add to their TBR.

Loved this book from the start about Criminologist Dr. Gretchen White and Detective Lauren Marconi who when gets arrested for a murder Gretchen sets out to discover the truth not believing that detective Lauren Marconi was the murderer.
Gretchen teams up with a Lachlan Gibbs from Internal Affairs to investigate and discovers some disturbing facts that will hopefully find the real killer.
I could not put this down as it goes between Gretchen and Lauren really gritty and riveting until the end.
Thoroughly enjoyed and would highly recommend.
Thanks to NetGalley & Thomas & Mercer for a ARC
Look forward to more stories from Brianna Labuskes.

Absolutely loved reading See It End, the continuing saga of our favorite sociopath, Gretchen White. The book starts with Gretchen on a blind date and then goes full throttle into a race against time to find the killer. Is it Lauren Marconi, Gretchen's detective friend or someone else?

Told from different POVs and timelines, See It End is so full of complex plot twists that you will have a hard time keeping everything straight. It also provides insight into Lauren's past and does a great job of character development for not only Lauren, but Gretchen and Lauren's boyfriend, Lachlan, as well, even though I was not a fan of Lachlan.

The book ends on an interesting note with the future of all the main characters uncertain. This was a thrill ride and I am looking forward to the next installment of the series, as well as checking out Briana Labuskes' other books. Thank you to Thomas & Mercer (yet again!) and NetGalley for this advance copy.

Detective Lauren Marconi & Dr Gretchen White make strange friends but they have each other's backs no matter what. So when Lauren finds herself in trouble with the law she knows that Gretchen will be able to find out the truth. But will Gretchen be able to find what she needs with the help of Lachlan Gibbs who is dating Lauren? Or will Lachlan just get in her way as he has to follow the rules?
But what they find will change everything they ever thought of Lauren it will explain her history and what she went through. But did Lauren really kill Owen Hayes and if so why?
The truth is more horrible than anyone thought but Gretchen can't allow her friend to be in prison for life she doesn't deserve that. A great read full of action but also heartbreaking loss.
Gretchen White is a strange woman I think that she would be able to get away with any crime as her mind can be pretty dark. But she does care about Lauren and she proves that she can't just walk away. Lauren is a good cop but she went through something so traumatic that it destroyed her family and left her wandering for too many years.
Thank you Netgalley & the publisher for the ARC copy. Highly recommended but it does have some triggers. This is my voluntary honest review.

Criminologist, psychologist, and sociopath Dr. Gretchen White,38, often serves as a consultant to the Boston Police Department due to her insights into the criminal mind. See It End, the third in a series, focuses on the quiet, aloof, hard-to-get-to-know Detective Lauren Marconi. In the six months since the detective closed a cold case that cleared White of the murder of her aunt that Gretchen was thought to have committed 30 years ago, Lauren has become the closest thing to a friend that Gretchen has had in a long time.

When Marconi hops in White's car one night, covered in blood and says "I did it. Don't investigate!" before running away, White knows that she won't be able to honor Marconi's wish. After Lauren Marconi is charged with the execution-style murder of Owen Hayes, Gretchen White teams up with Lachlan Gibbs, the by-the-book star of Internal Affairs who is currently Lauren's boyfriend, to prove Lauren's innocence. Gretchen is convinced Lauren is too smart a cop to be caught in murder, but the more they uncover, the more Gretchen begins to question herself. She is determined to get to the heart of the matter, wherever it takes her.

I love the way the characters interact in this series! Gretchen is acerbic, witty, cutting, and sarcastic, but the other characters give it right back to her. We also get to know more about some of the other people who help Gretchen in her investigations. Lasbuskes has put together a fast-paced, intricate suspense mystery that is filled with complex characters and is told from multiple perspectives across two timelines. She is a pro at keeping readers engaged with her stories.

Though part of a series, this book will do well when read as a standalone. A wonderful read, I highly recommend it! Personally, I will continue to look forward to reading anything this author writes.

My sincere thanks to Thomas & Mercer for allowing me to read a DRC via NetGalley. The book is set for release on 4/18/23. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and are freely given.

Dr. Gretchen White, a criminologist, believed Detective Lauren Marconi could never go too far. Later Lauren is detained for an execution-style killing while still having fresh blood on her hands. Gretchen remains adamant that she is innocent despite the mounting evidence. Lauren would have known how to commit murder and get away with it. Gretchen is forced to work with Lauren’s boyfriend and the confrontational by-the-book star of Internal Affairs, Lachlan Gibbs, and she begins her investigation. Yet when she delves into Lauren’s well-held secrets, more questions than answers come to light. When Lauren’s ten-year infatuation with the victim is revealed, Gretchen begins to question her judgment. She is more aware than most that things are not always as they seem. Furthermore, it’s critical to solve this riddle since Lauren’s future depends on it.

It started slowly before exploding into a rip-roaring blaze of suspense, equal parts criminal fiction and psychological thriller. Loving seeing Gretchen and Lauren’s connection grow, as well as Lauren’s boyfriend Lachlan’s. As each book goes on, these characters develop immensely, and I like spending time with them. Was on the edge of my seat the entire time since I was unable to figure out who the murderer was; excellent suspense.

Gretchen and Lachlan must go through a complex mystery with several potential suspects and reasons to discover the truth. The narrative is told from a variety of angles, and you’ll find yourself formulating your hypotheses about the killer and his motives. I like how easily the book transitioned from the present with Gretchen and Lachlan to the past to explain why Lauren behaves the way she does. The book’s twists will keep you guessing until the very last word is said, and when it does, you’ll feel relieved yet hopeful that there will be some sort of sequel. When a series is successfully concluded, you know it was a terrific book, but you still wish there had been another to see what happened to the characters’ lives after that. Yet this grim tale dealt with a subject that, at times, was difficult to read about and understand. Fans of suspense and thrillers will undoubtedly adore this novel, just as I did.

Author Brianna Labuskes takes readers on another twisty, suspenseful ride in this third installment to her Dr. Gretchen White series, “See it End.” A gripping story right from the very start, I was hard-pressed to put this one down!! The fast-paced plotline is brilliantly recounted through dual timelines and POV’s and reveals a depraved backstory that carries into the present. All of the characters are well-developed, yet flawed, which makes me love them all the more. I especially enjoy Gretchen’s sarcasm and the unconventional friendship she shares with Lauren Marconi. I give “See it End” two thumbs up! It’s truly a thrilling addition to an already riveting series!!

Did Dr. White’s favorite BPD detective really commit murder? Nothing is as it seems in this third installment of the series where it’s Marconi’s mysterious past that takes center stage.

First of all, the way that Dr. Gretchen White views the world is SO interesting to read - there aren’t a huge amount of stories out there where it’s the sociopath SOLVING crimes, not committing them. I loved all the differing POVs and the jumping timelines that slowly revealed pieces of the past. Sometimes it felt like there were a LOT of different theories going on in Gretchen’s mind, but that makes sense since there really wasn’t much to go on at the beginning of the investigation. I was shocked at how much I DIDN’T know about Detective Lauren Marconi’s history (after all, I’ve already read two books where she & Gretchen solved cases together) - that was very intricately plotted and I’m impressed at how it lined up so neatly when you looked back at their time together.

There were multiple huge reveals in this book and I don’t want to give anything away, but suffice it to say that if you’re a fan of thrillers then your bookshelf isn’t complete without some Brianna Labuskes titles 😊

Thank you to Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for the free ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I received this as a ARC so I didn’t know this was book 3 of a series. I went to find the first two books and I’m so glad I did this series is amazing. Book 3 definitely bring more familiar yet sarcastic tones from the one and only Dr. Gretchen White. Can’t wait to read more from Brianna Labuskes.
