Margaret Rogerson is one of the best voices working in YA right now and this sequel novella to her masterpiece Sorcery of Thorns only cements that. It was fun, romantic, and touching in all the right ways. I hope this isn't the last we see of these characters!

Very cute novella about the courtship of Elisabeth and Nathaniel. The Manor "Decides" that it doesn't care for the improprieties going on between the two and locks down. In order to free themselves they realize they must appease the wards set by Aunt Clothide and complete three "impossible tasks" ala fairy tale.
While they are not so much impossible as sweet, this was a very enjoyable read, especially as it managed to feature a fair bit of Silas as well.

This was a cute and lighthearted novella to continue on the story of Elisabeth, Nathaniel, and Silas.

The book follows the point-of-view of Elisabeth in third person narrative. Her mind definitely has a lot of thoughts when it comes to Nathaniel and Silas. She is trying to figure out what her life will be like now that everything has settled down. I can understand her feelings towards love and long term relationships. She always tries to understand Silas a lot more, even if he doesn’t see himself as she does.

There are cute moments between Elisabeth and Nathaniel. I liked the adventure they are set on to make things right at the manor. It all culminates to a surprise at the end which is what I was hoping would happen. I do think that it could have been drawn out a bit more and probably not done at that moment when someone is asking Nathaniel about something but maybe that is just me.

Overall, this was good and it did give me some answers that I had about their futures. I just wish it would have been just a bit longer.

3.5 - This light and fluffy return to the world of Sorcery of Thorns is delightfully low-stakes and happy! We follow Elisabeth, Nathaniel, and Silas a few months after the events of the original book as they are stuck in Thorn Manor by magical wards gone haywire. While nothing of consequence happens in this novella, that's a feature, not a bug. At its heart, this is pure fluffy fun and escapism with familiar characters in a quirky magical environment - an easy, mindless story that's easy to consume in one sitting. Fans of the original who wanted resolution to Silas's storyline will enjoy, though if you liked the open ending of the original book you may want to avoid this and let the original ending stand.

This was just perfect. Fan service at its best! We drop in on Nathaniel, Elisabeth, and Silas and see how they’re doing a few months after the events of Sorcery. We get adorable romantic content, sweet and poignant moments, some low stakes drama with the manor, and just overall everything you’d want out of a story this short. I love Nathaniel and Silas and Elisabeth so freaking much. I would have taken much more, but I’m happy with what we got.

This was incredible - I could not think of a better follow-up to Sorcery of Thorns. I would like to personally petition Margaret Rogerson to write a full second book, because I am not ready to let Elisabeth, Silas, or Nathaniel go!

I LOVED Sorcery of Thorns, so I was ecstatic that the author gave us this bonus story about Elisabeth and Nathaniel. Set a few months after the end of Sorcery, this story focuses on a relatively low stakes problem: the wards at Thorn manor are going crazy, trapping Elisabeth and Nathaniel in the manor alongside their demon friend Silas and new maid Mercy. The story is about how they figure out how to fix the wards, but also about the romance between Elisabeth and Nathaniel, which was very sweet. Their banter is still fantastic, as the two work together to sort things out, and their chemistry is what really makes the story fun. While there's much more romance in this story than the book, it's not out of place and doesn't overtake the fun of the story or the relationship between Elisabeth and Nathaniel (which, while obviously more romantic is refreshingly the same as it was in the book). This was a fantastic story, and I'd love more from this world and these characters.

I was super excited to see this book because I loved Sorcery of Thorns. Nathaniel and Elisabeth are just so dang cute but my heart belongs to Silas. I seriously just want a book about him. I was cracking up when he said that Clothilde’s wardrobe was disgracefully out of fashion.

I wasn’t so sure about the ending though. The engaged seemed rushed and forced and I wasn’t a fan of that. I have high hopes for the next book; if there is one which it seems like there will be.

Zero stars since this book isn’t available to download directly to my kindle paperwhite. I can’t read on my phone and computer. I’m devastated really. This was one book I really wanted. No early review from me. I’ll have to wait til my preorder gets delivered.

I had enjoyed the first book Sorcery of Thorns, and was glad that it continued with this book. I was invested in what was going on and thoroughly enjoyed the plot in this, it had the same spirit as Sorcery of Thorns and I was invested in the world. The characters were great and felt like they belonged in this world. Margaret Rogerson has a great writing style and I look forward to reading more from her.

“Still. You were acting under my father’s orders.” Silas gave Nathaniel an indecipherable look. Then he reached for his coat collar, neatly turning it up against the cold. “There is little I will not do in service to House Thorn. It is fortunate for this world that you are a better man than your father.”

It has been awhile since I read the first book Sorcery of Thorns, and I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that there was a sequel novella coming out. I was so happy for this, because it contained way more romance. I was able to read it and remember the characters and the storyline from the first book. It was great to see all my favorite characters again. I love Margeret's writing style. I feel like she is a wonderful YA writer, and I loved the dreamy scenes she created in this book.

But if this is anything like its predecessor, Sorcery of Thorns, then this is just going to be more of the good stuff. Excited to see what's next for Elisabeth and Nathaniel (and Silas?!)! And regardless of how this turns out, we are definitely procuring a copy for our library collection.
