Thank you Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter and NetGalley for the advanced copy of Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner!
Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner will have you smiling and laughing all the way through. Your heart will break momentarily, but as with all good romcoms, you'll finish this book with the biggest smile! This has to be in the top five of all romcom books! I loved it!!!
Sally loves her romcoms. She and a group of friends get together weekly to watch them on her pretty pink velvet sofa. When having a debate about romcoms and THE lift from Dirty Dancing with her new roommate Harry, they decide to test out to see if just anyone can do the lift. After posting the video and having it go viral, Sally and Harry decide to start to earn some extra cash by posting more viral rom-com recreations. But will faking the romcom recreations lead to more than just giggles and likes? Of course, it will!!!
This is the first book by @kathryn.freeman_author I’ve read after being gifted a copy by @netgalley. I thought this book was a sweet romance. I enjoyed the references to various romcoms as that is my preferred genre of movie. I wish there was a little more smexy stuff, it is mostly fade to black. Overall, this is a cute and light romance read, that I would recommend to others who enjoy romcoms. #romcom #romcombooks #romancebooks #bookstagram #romance #romancereader #newrelease #nooneputsbabyinthecorner
A super enjoyable romantic comedy about well…romantic comedies and the expectations that are set by them.
I was rooting for Harry and sally from the first page, and was left smiling everytime I picked it up. Could have been a little shorter but otherwise and enjoyable read.
And the award for Best Title of the Year goes to…Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner by Kathryn Freeman!
*pauses for the standing ovation*
Seriously, this is a title and cover that’ll stop folks dead in their tracks in a bookstore. Aisle traffic will be clogged as happy hands reach for it and hug it a little as they anticipate the joy waiting for them inside its pages, and the best news of all is that what lies within is even better than the wrappings. This book is simply wonderful!
It’s true that romantic comedies are known for their charm, but I have never been this charmed this quickly in my reading life. The prologue had me at hello. It had me chuckling, smiling, and swooning in just a couple of pages, and those happy emotions kept me company throughout my entire reading experience. The characters are beyond adorable: the chemistry between them sizzles, and their witty banter is worth the price of admission.
If there’s one quotation that sums up the early bookish bits, it’s this one: “Epic romcom re-enactment failure: When you drink too many margaritas and try Dirty Dancing with your flatmate.”
That’s where this romantically comedic journey begins, and it’s hilarious. See, Sally has a room to rent, and Harry needs a place to stay. (Did you catch those character names? *squeals*) Sally is a big fan of romcom films, but Harry, still stinging over a bad breakup, is highly antagonistic toward the very idea of love. After Sally shows him the lift scene from Dirty Dancing, the unimpressed Harry believes this move would be a piece of cake to accomplish. Wrong. From the above-mentioned quotation, you can accurately assume it doesn’t go well, but everything in this moment and in all the cutie-patootie scenes to come are delightful. Your cup-o-delight will overflow from the amount of pure bliss stuffed into every single page of this book. Sigh!
If you enjoy romcoms—be they books or films—you cannot miss this one. It’s waiting to entertain you, to take you away from the craziness of the world, and to renew your faith in happy endings.
Enjoy!
If you love rom-coms (of the film and or the book type), then you will ADORE this book. It's a compilation of the best rom-com moments in cinematic history, set up in a really fun way. I would read this book again! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
I have been a Kathryn Freeman fan since I read The Italian Job so when I saw this I knew I had to read it! I love the grumpy/sunshine troupe and how by the end of the book, he normally comes around and is a big romance guy in his own way and Harry was no exception. I love cheesy rom coms so Sally is someone that I would totally be friends with and her idea of recreating these scenes with Harry was great. There was some spice, but no too much, and the chemistry between Sally and Harry is insane. I was smiling and giggling the whole time that I read it.
The second I saw the title I knew that I had to read this book.
It is a story about fantasy versus reality. It is about what girls were taught by Disney and Hollywood what love is and how most of the time it is far, far away from that picture.
I love the idea for the plot. Kind of a tribute to all romcoms :D and honestly, I didn’t watch them all, so I have some catching up to do.
It’s not a bad book, I want to say that I have enjoyed it but… if you take out 50 pages from it, it would change absolutely nothing in the plot. The inner dialogue was very repetitive and didn’t make sense. Sometimes it felt like words and actions were separated because they had no influence on each other, which is so weird, no logic.
I really liked the message of the book. It was very realistic and so down to earth which was absolutely amazing! I love that about romances. Real life love is as romantic as the TV one.
I actually recommend this book. It was a nice, cute story, full of butterflies!
3.5 stars. Harry and Sally become roommates when Harry has broken up with his cheating girlfriend, but she hasn’t moved out of his house. He rents a room for Sally, who is also strapped for cash. On a drunken bet, they attempt to recreate the lift from Dirty Dancing, and while their attempt goes awry, it goes viral, and Sally realizes there might be a way to monetize creating famous scenes from RomComs. She’s a huge fan of the genre, Harry couldn’t be less enthused about the movies, but grudgingly enacts them all the same.
This is a cute and light romance. Harry and Sally are likeable; Sally’s entitled sister decidedly less so.
NetGalley provided an advance reader copy of this novel, which RELEASES FEBRUARY 10, 2023.
Nobody Puts Romcoms In The Corner is ADORABLE. The main characters, Harry and Sally, are just too perfect.
Sally is a huge romcom fan, she could vividly describe all of the romantic gestures in movies, and quote you all of the heartfelt one liners that help to 'seal the deal'. Her new tenant, Harry, is the complete opposite.
The two of them navigate being total opposites, fighting an attraction and then reconsidering their expectations of love, all while filming re-enactments of famous romcom scenes to put on tiktok.
Harry definitely goes through quite an emotional transformation, and it was very cute seeing him come to realise that he is capable of love. Also Amy went from being a total cow to bring a supportive sister, which I think was excellent. I do think that perhaps there needed to be a bit more exploration into her relationship with Chris, and the impact it had on her personality and her relationships though, that seemed to get swept under the rug a little!
Overall a very cute romcom, the type of book that makes you feel happier for reading it.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read and review Nobody Puts Romcoms In The Corner.
Thank you NetGalley and Harper Collins Uk for letting me read this arc. This book is the perfect valentines read! The banter and humor was great. Harry and Sally might be one of my favorite romcom couples. Recommend to anyone who loves all a good romantic comedy!
Reading Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner by Kathryn Freeman is like indulging in your favourite cinematic romcoms, and will bring all of the warm feelings that the classics have the power to evoke.
Sally is at a loose end and financially strapped when she agrees to rent her spare room to builder Harry. Initially put off by the pink walls and matching furnishings, Harry is reluctant to live with the romcom obsessed Sally. But when the two recreate a classic romcom scene that quickly goes viral, both Harry and Sally can see that this arrangement might just be mutually beneficial in more ways than one. Soon they are creating their own love story with a little help from the classics of the screen.
This is a must read for anyone with an appreciation of the romcoms that have become a part of our lives, and are often the standard by which we measure true love.
Many thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for an ARC.
I didn't like this. Usually I love a rom-com, but this just felt like too much.
I found the dialogue to be stilted and awkward, and the characters themselves just seemed to be caricatures of themselves. The connections between them felt forced, as did the plot.
The book also felt so slow. There were so many unnecessary scenes that dragged the pace down. This was a real struggle to finish.
This was a fun and quick read. Loved it. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me an advance copy, I will definitely be recommending.
Unfortunately, this book did put romcoms in the corner for me. I really wanted to like it but I couldn't,
The story follows Sally and Harry, landlord & tenant. Sally has her own cafe and is obsessed with romcoms. Harry ... isn't, he is the definition of a man who HATES romance and doesn't believe in it.
That was my first issue - the main characters felt too different and unwilling to change. Harry felt too "manly" and gave off the "don't touch me with those romcoms I'm too much of a man for silly stuff like that" energy. Sally felt a bit too naive in her belief in romcoms. It's not bad, but she had rose-colored glasses on the whole time and it felt like neither were willing to budge. Also, Harry thought of banging her a little too much but whatever.
Another personal ick is the constant mention of TikTok and the number of followers and likes. And while that is more or less acceptable as it's the main plot, what was weird to me is how easily these companies and places agreed to pay Sally and Harry for the "promo". It did not feel real to me. And Sally overusing emojis ... use your words, honey, please.
This sadly fell flat for me & I couldn't get into the storyline (and secondary storylines too, those characters pissed me off and I just wanted to shake some sense into them).
I hope whoever reads this story finds comfort in it and loves it but sadly, I did not.
2.5/5 (rounding up to 3)
Thank you Netgalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for the eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
When I was thinking of what to write in my review, there was a lot of love... I love Kathryn Freeman, I love this book, I love Harry, I love Sally, I love how this is written. Then I thought, sod it, that's it. That's all it needs.
I am sooo difficult to please, especially when it comes to romance novels and I am very fussy about characters and how they interact yet Kathryn's stories get me every time.
Whether this is your genre or not, whether you're a dreamer like Sally or a cynic like Harry, you MUST read this book!
This book was super fun and adorable. I loved all of the fun inclusions of rom com Easter eggs and I think this one will definitely be a hit when it releases!!
Sally is a romantic and Harry not so much but after the recreation of a moment of Dirty dancing and as new flatmates... things are going to change.
I enjoyed this one a lot, is a fun, sweet read whit all the cliches you can expect in this books but I´m here for it.
If, like me, you are a fan of romantic comedies this one delivers in all the right places.
I can totally see this as a movie!
Thank you netgalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
3.25/5⭐️
This one was almost wonderful but unfortunately a couple of frustrations kept me from thoroughly enjoying it.
Sally, a coffee shop owner and hopeless romantic (romcom queen) and her new flat mate, hopelessly cynical Harry (yes, Harry and Sally 😆) are drunk one night when they recreate the lift scene from Dirty Dancing on a dare. It goes viral, and with a financial incentive in mind they begin to spoof other take-offs of famous romcom romantic moments. As their chemistry builds, one thing leads to another, and they must decide if their relationship is just for “fun” or if they want to be more than friends with benefits.
I liked the abundance of romcom references here, fun and nostalgic. But I had a couple of issues with the leads. First and foremost, I found Harry, for the most part, arrogant and hung up on his “hunky-ness”…too much, too distracting. And Sally, while I mostly liked her, proved not to have much of a backbone where her younger sister was concerned. I also felt at times that she went blindly along with Harry’s overinflated ego.
So overall, a cute concept but a couple of flaws from wonderful.
My thanks to the author, NetGalley and One More Chapter for providing the free early arc for review. The opinions are strictly my own.
Perfect read for lovers of all the best romcoms.
“The love cynic and the romantic, forced together because they live together”.
This was a super sweet and lighthearted read that I thoroughly enjoyed. Just made me smile with the references to all my favourite romcom movies. It has a TikTok subplot where Harry & Sally recreate famous romcom scenes that just leads to some great tension between them.
Maybe one of my only criticisms was the constant reference to Sally as his landlady, but that is only a small gripe.
Harry’s parents are delightfully awful. And it is a true talent I think to be able to create characters that you can despise so much. It was nice to see how they each supported the other through the drama created by others in their lives.
“‘We can watch those films now,’ he said finally. ‘If you want.’…‘you’ll watch Pretty Women and She’s All That with me?’”
I’ll post a list of all the movies mentioned because it would be a great list of the ‘Must watch romcoms’.
Overall, just devoured this romance filled, fast paced read.

“Bad days could be turned into good nights just by watching a romcom. How incredible was that?” - Sally
Thank you to NetGalley and One More Chapter for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.
Nobody Puts RomComs in The Corner was the perfect grumpy/sunshine romcom story with a nice slow burn. The characters were nicely developed but I wished we got a little more of their back stories. I also got excited when there was a spicy scene about halfway through bit was a little disappointed when those didn't continue through the end of the book. The tension between Sally and Harry was just enough to keep me reading without getting bored. The romcom mentions throughout the book made this hopeless romantics heart happy to the very end. I highly recommend this book!
I give this 4.5 stars. Thanks so much to the author and Netgalley for an advanced copy.
