This is a fast paced thriller. I felt that this book lacked in atmosphere and the pacing was off. The timeline kept chopping back and forwards. There were too many characters also

A brilliantly compelling read that kept me hooked. I read it in one evening as I just couldn't stop reading. So many secrets and lies and some really good twists.

This was a great thriller with so many layers to it and so many sub-plots which came together well without being confusing. An enjoyable read if you're looking for a modern whodunnit with some good twists!

This was the first book I've read by this author, and I will read more in future. I was engaged from beginning to end, and couldn't wait to finish it. Recommended.

Unfortunately with this one , I found it hard to connect to the characters which affected my rating. It moves at a fast pace but it was lacking the intensity. The ending was a bit lacklustre and disappointing.

I found the beginning slow, but I was so glad that I held on as the plot comes in to its own and the characters are splendid.

A really nice destination mystery and I will be recommending this for anyone who enjoys a thriller.

Actually better than I thought it was going to be from the the first chapters. The story is told by a group of (rich) friends who were at college together in the US. It revolves around the wedding of Fiona and Trevor in Florida and viewpoints are from the weekend of the wedding and 5 months earlier. I do not think I am giving too much away if I say that TRevor dies from an anaphylactic reaction at the start of the book. Then everyone's involvement with him is explored, they all have a reason for wanting him dead.
What worked was the psychological aspect of the book, the way friends were played off one against the other. What did not work for me, was why on earth was Fiona marrying him ? Her character was very one dimensional . The suspense builds up nicely towards the end .

Really enjoyed this story and how much the past plays into the present day. There is no clear cut idea of who the culprit is as the options are vast! Excellent read.

3.5 stars rounded up!

I really enjoyed this quick read, it only took me a weekend to get through.

Let me just tell you, there are so many WTF twist moments, you might get whiplash. The last 35% of the book did 'calm down' a little in that department, but it was a fun & quick read for me!
It truly gripped me and I wanted to know what happened, however, I did have to suspend my belief a little, which I thought was reasonable for a book like this. I mean, it was far-fetched to deepen the WTF factor, but going in this book I kind of expected that and therefore didn't mind it.

What are the chances of one group of people having so many messed up and intertwining secrets?
You'll find out! :D

Thank you, NetGalley for the ARC!

A group of midthirties New Yorker friends is infiltrated by a conniving schemer who is determined to marry one of their women. He separately blackmails each of the seven friends into acting as groomsman or bridesmaid at his voluptuous Miami wedding in order to veigle himself into a political career thanks to the mousy bride’s influential uncle. Immediately after the wedding, the groom dies under suspicious circumstances while dancing at his reception… The wedding weekend at the luxurious Miami beach resort hotel is described hour per hour, interspersed by flashbacks to the individual friends‘ past who, unbeknownst to each other, have each selfishly ruined at least one person‘s life, business or happiness. without ever owning up to their misdemeanors. Therefore I found it impossible to like any of the protagonists who are all portrayed as egomaniacal and superficial stereotypical American Yuppies. I was allowed to read an ARC of this book in return for my honest opinion.

A good story that flits between the past , present and future of a group of friends who having witnessed the death of Trevor , a vile, blackmailing, cheat as his wedding to Fiona breath a sigh of relief at his passing

The story tells of the reasons as to why Trevor is hated and how he has manipulated Fiona

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this arc

This one grabbed me from the very first - and didn't let go until the final word!

Arriving in Miami for their friend Fiona's wedding, all five of her friends are delighted for her - or are they? Her fiance, Trevor, has quickly wormed his way into the group to the extent that his groomsmen are the three male friends of the group. He's good looking, charming and Fiona loves him - what could go wrong?

I can't tell you how much I took to this one! From the very beginning I was hooked - it is beautifully written and cleverly crafted to keep the reader's attention all the way through. I found myself recommending it from the start - and it just got better and better! This is my first novel by Jaime Lynn Hendricks but I will certainly be looking at her books from here on in. Gripping and exciting, this is a superb read and one I highly recommend. As such, it merits all five sparkling stars!

My thanks to the publisher for my copy via NetGalley; this is - as always - my honest, original and unbiased review.

I loved Finding Tessa by this author and was thrilled to dive into her sophomore novel, but it sadly missed the mark for me.

This was a quick read and relatively easy to follow despite the large cast. However, I didn't feel attached to any of the characters and the antagonist was very one-dimensional (which a character in the book itself actually acknowledges and mentions).

While the setup/premise is similar to that of many whodunits involving a group of friends reuniting for a significant event, this one had lackluster characterisation that leaves you not caring about anyone. Additionally, the opening chapter is the most compelling part of the whole novel so don't expect any big twist or wow moment or worthy pay-off.

Might make a fun vacation read but ultimately very underwhelming for a thriller.

You are going to need to suspend disbelief for this one. The chances of a group of friends all having secrets as heinous as this bunch of people's is pretty unlikely. In addition, the way the murder is carried out, while possible, is unlikely to have gone without being noticed in the way it's presented. I won't say more than that because it'll spoil it, but let's just say the only reason the police would struggle to find the murderer would be because there's so many possibilities rather than the murderer covered their tracks.

Having said all that, I did enjoy this. It was fun, fast paced and I was intrigued enough by everyone's secrets to want to know more.

Warning - some very mild spoilers for the opening of the novel

I had high hopes for this book from the synopsis. I'm someone who finds travelling anywhere much too stressful compared to just reading about it - so the idea of a destination wedding ending in murder was very compelling.

I'm delighted to say I loved this novel from Jaime-Lynn Hendricks - devoured it in two or three sittings and got all the refreshment of a weekend away for a wedding (without the hangover).

As Fiona prepares to wed Trevor after a whirlwind romance, five of her oldest friends arrive in Miami to celebrate with her - all of them apparently giddy with excitement and ready to heap praise on the husband-to-be.

But, of course, not all is as it seems. Trevor has each of them in a chokehold, using their darkest secrets against them to secure his future with Fiona. So when Trevor dies at the just hours after saying "I do", we're spoilt for suspects...

Hendricks gets straight into the meat of the story. We know that there's something off about Trevor, we're pretty certain someone's deliberately induced his anaphylaxis and we know that most of Fiona's friends, if not all of them, are harbouring dark secrets.

It puts me in mind of Pretty Little Liars - the first season where it was still great. If anything, my curiosity about what each of the friends wanted to keep concealed was a bigger drive to read the book than finding out who the killer was.

I also really enjoyed the setting of the novel, especially in the opening chapters. We start in the airport, slowly gathering the cast to be delivered to the story via a business class flight.

On arrival in Miami, the characters face oppressive, record-breaking heat and humidity. Weather and temperature is used throughout to great effect - not only serving as symbolism but also as a way to ramp up the tension and pressure in the story.

I would say that very few of the characters in the book were particularly likeable, but that's never been a requirement for a great thriller. I won't give away a spoiler but there was one couple in particular I was really rooting for...

There's an element of "willing suspension of disbelief" required around the secrets themselves. They're all excellently chosen, beautifully revealed and very clever. However - there was a lot of serendipity for Trevor that he happened to find a friendship group with so many secrets. Let's face it, in most of our friendship groups the only terrible thing to have occurred is usually gossiped about extensively, and therefore useless for blackmail.

However, that by no means detracts from the story. The quality of Hendricks' writing meant I was more than happy to be swept along on the river of despicable deeds.

The ending of the novel was excellent. A satisfying ending that delivered plenty of twists and left me feeling pleasantly sated at the end of the story.

The only potential critique from me would be that I would have liked more from Trevor's perspective, but this didn't spoil the ending for me at all.

A cracking read!

A great read for anyone who is feeling the gloom of Autumn/Winter descending, and wants to escape to the sunshine of Miami. The wedding angle is a great touch - they're so fraught with anxiety anyway, it makes a great setting/premise for a thriller!

Hendricks has truly delivered an excellent second novel and I hope she finds every success.

I have to say I've been very impressed with all the novels I've read from Canelo - and I hope to read more in future!

I was given a free advanced-reader copy of this book, in exchange for a review.

To anyone on their flight out of New York, they appear to be five best friends excited for a destination wedding in Miami. No one would guess that each of them has a reason to want the groom dead.

How well do you know your closest friends? Well, these friends aren't very likeable. There are secrets, lies, and scandals in this twisted read. The story is told from multiple points of view. Everyone had a motive for killing Trevor Vaughn, and the killer was among the guests. Ethan, Dutch, Veejay, Allie and Emma are all friends of the bride, Fiona. The first part of this story focuses on the character development of each of the five wedding guests and the bride and groom. Part two, and it's the wedding weekend. I was constantly changing my mind to who the killer was. The pace is fast, the length of the book is spot on, and the chapters are short. This is an entertaining whodunit.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #Canelo and the author #JamieLynnHendricks for my ARC of #HerHusbandsMurder in exchange for an honest review.
