Cold Light of Day is a wonderful romantic suspense novel full of twists and turns and of course love in the end. I adored the Alaska setting and the small town atmosphere. The characters of police chief Autumn and the new to town Grier are likeable and fun to read about. This book kept me on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what would happen next and who was behind the recent string of murders. Fans of suspense and mystery novels will definitely love this one.

Shadow Gap, Alaska is the perfect remote getaway in Alaska. Grier Brenner is there getting away from an international group trying to kill him. His problem is exacerbated by rogue CIA operatives who also are hunting him.

Chief Autumn Long has just taken over as Chief of Police for the small town but very large area. She tries to stay aloof but she is falling for Grier.

The author weaves this tale with a master storyteller’s efficiency. Three very well-placed international agents are trying to extract the location of their prize from him. Autumn works the case while trying to protect Grier from the killers.

The remote location puts Grier in the cross-hairs of the trio’s sights. Can Autumn protect Grier and discover the reason for their vendetta?

This novel has no down-time. I found it difficult to take a break for supper because every page magnified the tension. Enjoy the read, you will not be disappointed! 5 stars – CE Williams

Cold Light of Day is the perfect suspense novel- a great wilderness setting, lots of intense action, missing persons, a small town with caring local folk, dashes of well-written romance, and a police chief who won't stop until she solves this mystifying case.

This book is awesome and it's squeaky clean, so I'd recommend it to any age romance or suspense reader.
Y'all seriously need to get this book!

I received a complimentary paperback from the publisher through LibraryThing.

I also received a e-book copy from the publisher through Netgalley.

I was not required to write a positive review although I was glad to, and the thoughts above are my own.

I enjoyed reading Cold Light of Day, the first book in Elizabeth Goddard’s Missing in Alaska romantic suspense series. Autumn is the police chief in a sleepy Alaskan town with a low crime rate. Dead bodies start turning up, and her role as police chief is in jeopardy. At the start of the story we learn that Autumn’s mother drowned in the Caribbean during a family vacation, and her father is the retired police chief who’s also an alcoholic. Autumn is under pressure to prove herself and keep her town safe.

Grier is an intriguing hero, and a man of mystery who’s hiding out in Shadow Gap. He sees a woman in the icy lake water at risk of drowning, and he rescues her. Grier has professional diving skills, and he agrees to help Autumn with ongoing police investigations.

Autumn and Grier are drawn to each other, but he’s an outsider and she’s slow to trust. Grier refuses to talk about his previous life, which complicates their relationship. A lovely friends to more romance develops as they’re pushed together due to their lives being in danger. Secrets from the past threaten to tear them apart as they work to solve the mystery deaths in Shadow Gap.

The suspense plot intensifies the tension to the story. I kept turning the page, wanting to know what happens next, and I didn’t pick how the ending would unfold. The Alaskan scenery is stunning, and I loved experiencing Alaska with Autumn and Grier. I recommend Cold Light of Day to romantic suspense readers who like fast paced stories with many twists and turns combined with a satisfying romance and a light faith element in the story.

Many thanks to Revell and Net Galley for the Advanced Reader Copy.

What a suspenseful ride! This is my first book by Elizabeth Goddard and definitely won’t be my last. From start to finish, this book had me on the edge of my seat. Set in the beautiful Alaskan wilderness, a small town sheriff is looking to prove herself to her community. But, when the body count begins to rise and a stranger in town seems to always be there when she needs him, she has to decide whether to trust him and what if any connection he has to the recent deaths.

I enjoyed Autumn’s character. Her world was turned upside down as a child when her mother drowned and she’s still plagued by the nightmare. She also comes from a family of law enforcement and as the new sheriff, is trying to prove to the antagonistic city council that she’s well qualified to do her job. When Grier shows up in her small town, she’s immediately suspicious even though he’s always there when she needs him. She can’t help be attracted to the mysterious stranger. But when he seems unwilling to share his past and the body count increases, it’s hard for her to reconcile her trust in him.

Grier is a mystery. He’s gone to Alaska to hide and escape his past. We don’t learn the reasons until about 70% into the book. This made him somewhat of a difficult character to understand because while he seems like a knight in shining armor, it’s unclear if it’s too good to be true until we learn the truth. His attraction to Autumn is palpable yet he holds back because he doesn’t want to prove a liability to her. When he finally reveals who he is, it takes the story to a whole new level.

As far as the mystery goes, this book really had a lot of twists and turns. Both Autumn and Grier have messy pasts which happen to intersect. From Autumn’s father being shot at to someone following and trying to kidnap her, to crazy car chases, and chases through the wilderness, this book definitely doesn’t have a dull moment. There’s constant action as we go from one suspenseful situation to the next. However, because we don’t really understand until near the end what’s really going on, the story was a little hard for me to get a handle on. I really liked Autumn and Grier and the way they worked together. I think I would have preferred to have her know a little bit more about him earlier on, but there is still great chemistry between them.

All in all, a suspenseful, action-packed read with a touch of romance and faith that kept me turning the pages. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review.

Police chief Autumn Long is fighting to keep her job in her hometown of Shadow Gap in Alaska and at the same time is investigating something sinister happening in the small town. Along with newcomer Grier the pair are drawn together but could they be in for the fight of there lives?
What an outstanding police procedural that had my attention from the start to the end. I was gripped by the mystery which I didn't figure out for myself so when it was revealed it was a complete surprise. The plot is well thought out and has romance, suspense, mystery, family drama and my favourite Dog's. The action had me excited and on edge. This is the start of what I believe is going to be a gripping series and I for one cannot wait!

Police Chief Autumn Long lives in a quiet little town in Alaska, where pretty much everyone knows one another. As for the outsiders, it is a good place to hide. This story is one that is full of secrets.

Autumn is fighting to keep her job. She is not only fighting to keep from losing the job she loves due to a disgruntled councilman, but she is also trying to keep her town safe. In recent days there have been way too many strangers passing through, and too many dead bodies showing up.

Grier Brenner is one of those who came to this small Alaskan town to hide. He has his reasons, and he is trying desperately to not fall for the brave yet intriguing police chief. But they have an undeniable connection, so he will protect and help her as much as he can. But she can never know the real reason he is there or who he really is.

Both Autumn and Grier are in danger, and it seems nothing they do is going to see them out of this situation alive. Unless they lay down their guards and trust one another. That is so hard for them to do. This was a very adrenaline rich story with unknown dangers stalking these two and those they cared about around every dark corner. Can these two handle the truths that will be revealed?

I was provided a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

COLD LIGHT OF DAY (Missing in Alaska Book #1) by Elizabeth Goddard is a fast-paced Christian romantic suspense and the first in a new series set in small town Alaska. Shadow Gap’s police chief and a mysterious newcomer are enveloped in a crime spree that could cost them everything.

Police Chief Autumn Long is trying to prove herself and keep her job after taking over after her father’s disability retirement, but a crime wave is enveloping their small town. When she witnesses a newcomer to town rescuing a woman from drowning, she wonders why he rejects the attention gained by his rescue.

Grier Brennan is trying to stay under the radar and to himself, but his background will not allow him to let a person drown and he gets tangled up in all the activity happening around the attractive police chief. As bullets fly and the body count grows, Grier reluctantly joins forces with Autumn to find the killer.

Autumn and Grier investigate the murders and discover their pasts have entangled them with the same enemies in this crime wave and could be the death of them both.

The action and investigation plot lines that tie Autumn and Grier together were exciting and fast paced throughout. The stakes continue to rise and kept me turning the pages. The Alaskan wilderness itself is integral to the intensity of the story and provides both beauty and danger. Autumn and Grier are strong characters and believable in their situations, but I had a harder time connecting them as a romantic couple, especially since Grier does not reveal his secret until much to late in the plot for me to believe Autumn could trust him romantically. It is a Christian romantic suspense, but I really did not feel romantic elements pulling these two together. The balance of this story is much more slanted to the suspense and police investigation than a romance. There are mentions of faith and prayer which I did not feel interfered with the flow of the story. I enjoyed this start to the Missing in Alaska series and would be interested in reading more.

Overall, a good start to the series with an exciting suspense plot.

The plot has all the right bells and whistles, and the Alaskan setting gives it high stakes without entering "implausible action sequence" territory. Sadly, the writing is a lot more telling than showing and the descriptions get repetitive really fast. That undercuts the tension, and makes it hard to believe the characters' romance.

Elizabeth Goddard is one of my newer favorite authors and Cold Light of Day doesn’t disappoint. In this brand new series opener, we have embattled police chief Autumn, clinging to her job. Unfortunately, a near drowning and a trapped body sends her small Alaskan town spiraling into an eye-watering crime wave.

Grier Brenner is trying to be invisible, but he can’t stay in the shadows when lives are at stake. His dangerous attraction to a certain police chief doesn’t help persuade him to stay put and despite the risks, he steps up. And this, friends, is when it all really spirals out of control. Between international crime syndicates, dead relatives, and a growing body count, it’s all going on here.

For the romance lovers, the tentative way Grier and Autumn fight their feelings while fighting for their lives is skillfully done this masterful storyteller. As the danger increases the two figure out how to work together and despite all the red flags, put aside their trust issues in order to survive.

As ever with Elizabeth Goddard, there’s a tight, unpredictable plot, fantastic sense of location and sigh inducing relationships. If you enjoy romantic suspense, this is definitely recommended.

I received a copy from the publisher via Netgalley. The opinions are all my own.

Cold Light of Day is the latest suspense filled novel by Elizabeth Goddard who has become one of my go-to authors. Like her previous books, this one hits the ground running and the action and suspense do not let up until the end.

Police chief of a small Alaskan town, Autumn is fighting to hold onto her job in the upcoming election despite those who want her out. A sudden influx of newcomers to town as well as the discovery of more than one body has her jumping through hoops as she attempts to solve the case(s). It appears that the murders are connected but if so how?

Newcomer Grier just happens to be in the right place at the right time to rescue a woman from the sea but is he really the hero he seems? Autumn has no choice but to accept his help but questions and secrets between them make her wonder if she is doing the right thing. As the pair face numerous threats to their lives, the chemistry between them is one thing that cannot be denied.

As expected, I thoroughly enjoyed Cold Light of Day and cannot wait to get my hands on the next book in this series.

Shadow Gap is a small Alaskan town where Autumn Long is the Police Chief. Normally, a quite town, suddenly there are murdered bodies. Grier Brinner is an outsider (didn't grow up in Shadow Gap) and seems to have came from a background of exactly the kind of help Autumn needs. She has replaced her father as Chief and not everyone is happy about it. One of her two officers wanted the job for himself.
Many come to Alaska to disappear, as did Grier. He knows he cannot allow himself to get involved with the Chief or become to familiar with people. Lives depend on it, yet here he is somewhat helping the Chief.
Lots of twists and turns that I didn't see coming. Edge of your seat suspense. Very well developed characters. Great story!
I was given an advanced ecopy by the publisher, Revell through Netgalley. I was under no obligation to give an honest review.

I love stories with remote, hard-to-get-to settings, and the author does a wonderful job of evoking small town Alaska. Shadow Gap’s interim Chief of Police, stepping in for her father, attends a number of seemingly unrelated events in her jurisdiction. The story’s told in alternating viewpoints between Autumn and Grier, a stranger in town who keeps himself to himself until a woman needs rescuing from the cold sea.

This is a very good rural police procedural with a thread of romance underneath the main plot. Page turning, edge-of-your-seat action that doesn’t stop until the very last page. Interesting full bodied characters and setting. Highly recommended for mystery and suspense lovers.

I’m really looking forward to the next in this series!

Elizabeth Goddard is one of those authors that when I say her name on a cover, I know I am in for a good read that will keep me on the edge of my seat with suspense... Cold Light of Day certainly lived up to that expectation. Right from the start, this book drew me in and had me reading on to discover what was going to happen next, and try to figure out all the answers. And just when I thought that perhaps I had it figured out, something new would be discovered that kept me guessing... and I enjoyed every minute of it.

A suspense novel set in Alaska certainly adds another level of suspense, knowing that help was not always quite so easy to come by as it might be elsewhere. I felt like this story really depicted that well. This is the first book in the new Missing in Alaska series, and it certainly has me looking forward to more in the series. I cannot wait to see what happens next.

**I received a complimentary copy for consideration. All thoughts are my own.

Cold Light of Day is the first novel in Elizabeth Goddard's new Missing In Alaska series. Romantic suspense will likely always be my favourite genre, and Elizabeth Goddard is quickly becoming one of my go-to authors for epic books. Cold Light of Day is fast paced and exciting with a well-rounded plot and relatable characters.
This time, we're taken to the small town of Shadow Gap, Alaska, where police chief, Autumn Long is fighting to keep her job after a string of events that have left her with an injured officer, unsolved murders, and an attack on her own father. Grier Brenner, a recent addition to the town, seems to have the skills Autumn needs to solve her problems, but his shadowy past keeps everyone at a distance. Despite her misgivings, Autumn soon finds herself turning to Grier for help. Grier, however, came to Alaska solely to disappear, and helping the police chief just might put him--and anyone around him--in grave danger. As danger draws closer to home, Autumn and Grier will have to work together to save lives...including their own.

I loved this one! Grier and Autumn made a fantastic team, both while working and when it came to romance. They were both likeable, realistic characters with lots of layers. I appreciated the character development throughout the book and enjoyed getting a peek at their backstories. The mystery in this novel was top-notch. I couldn't figure out who was behind all the crime until well into the book, and I definitely didn't see it coming! This was quite the roller coaster ride, and I can't wait to see where Goddard takes the series next.

If you enjoy romantic suspense, you won't want to miss this one!
