This is a great cozy mystery that will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. I loved everything about this book, the characters, the setting, the mystery and the dogs. I can't wait for the next book in this series. I received a complimentary copy from Barbour Publishing via NetGalley and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

BARKING UP THE WRONG TREE
(BOOK 3 GONE TO THE DOGS MYSTERIES)
by Janice Thompson

A good veterinarian clinic is something that owners of award-winning pets like to have. Remmington is a champion Sheltie who isn't acting like himself. His family takes him to Lone Star Veterinary Clinic to see Dr. Kristin.

Kristin does some tests on the dog and finds out that he is an imposter. The vet clinic staffers name him Fred Mertz, because of personality similarities. Then the race is on to find the real Remmington since he has a big dog show coming up.

This is a nicely done story about pets and the people who love them, the caring people who take care of them, and who would separate a beloved dog from his adoring owners.

There is romance in the wind between Dr. Kristin and Dr. Tyler. They went to veterinary school together, but up until now, didn't make any moves towards a more filling relationship.

I enjoyed the sweet Christian fiction and the air of mystery.

I'm grateful for the complimentary copy of #BarkingUpTheWrongTree from #BarborPublishing #BarborFiction I was under no obligation to post a review.

This is the 3rd book in the series and I honestly thought I was requesting a book in a series by a different author. I reviewed the first book in the series and for whatever reason, didn’t like it at the time. But this was a happy accident because I reread the first 2 in the series and enjoyed them a lot, this one was even better! The characters are well developed and feel real by this book, I feel like I actually know them. Highly recommend for other cozy lovers!

Gone to the Dogs Mystery Series is an amazing adventure full of well defined characters who all have a love for dogs (and cats, too). While I’ve never read Book 1, I did read and review Book 2, Dog Days of Summer by Kathleen Y’Barbo. Having read two of the three books in this series, now I really want to read book 1!

Barking Up the Wrong tree is a mystery about a champion agility dog gone missing. Somehow, someone did a switcheroo and replaced the champion with a sickly dog. But who dunnit and will the champion Remington be found before nationals?

Remington’s vet office is on the case I’m looking for who has him. There are several possibilities that the team is investigating. As they dig deeper and look further into the possible culprits, it seems something else pops up as another potential direction to look into. All this happens while those working at the vet office is busy caring for their pet patients and they expand to helping others on their time off as well.

Let’s not forget there’s a romance brewing amongst everything else happening at Lone Star Animal Clinic. The two veterinarians are college classmates and apparently they’ve spent many years admiring each other but a romance didn’t ever start until they’re in the middle of looking for the missing Remington. It all comes together eventually leaving me saddened that I once again arrived at the end of a book and all the new friends I’ve made. All the possibilities are resolved, but do they actually find Remington?

Barking Up the Wrong Tree by Janice Thompson is an excellent book that’s full of action and leads. I give it 5 out of 5 tiaras because there’s never a dull moment between these covers!

This third installment was my favorite so far. The attraction between Kristen and Tyler was fun to see developing. Revisiting the characters including Grandma Peaches felt like home. The mystery was very well thought out. I can’t wait for book number 4!

Barking up the wrong tree is written by Janice Thompson. This is book three In the Gone to the Dogs series. While each book can be read as a stand alone, the characters are so much fun and you will find yourself invested in them.

This is Dr. Kristin Kelley’s story. She’s the other vet at the Lone Star Veterinary clinic. She’s had such a crush on her fellow vet and boss. It was nice to start to see that romance building. Kristin sees one of her usual clients whose dog Remington is a Texas Agility champion. However the dog is off his game. His owners have noticed a change in behavior. They soon find out that it’s a different dog completely. The Lone Star crew is then on the case.

There’s are plenty of suspects. The second place dogs owner who owns a dog food company that the vets refuse to endorse. The groomer that lost Remington as a client. The older Mr. Flores who seems to have dementia. The not so reputable dog breeder. So many suspects.

The author has written a fun story with a mystery woven in. I loved seeing the characters again and have gotten to know them so well. Their stories are well written.

I have enjoyed this series so far. I can’t wait until the next story. Thank You to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.

This is the 3rd book in the series and is just a fun read. There is a little bit of mystery and romance in each book. This book follows Dr. Kristin who is a vet and we get to follow along with characters that we have grown to love--Mari, Grandma Peach, Parker and of course all of their furry friends!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

Christian fiction mixed with mystery, romance, compassion, interesting characters and sweet dogs. This is a nice feel-good story that will both inspire and entertain you.

Dr. Kristin Keller, a veterinarian, is examining Remington, a Sheltie. Remington’s owner is worried about her furbaby because he is acting oddly, and it is obvious that he is under the weather. Kristin wonders if Remington is really Remington. She runs some tests which prove that someone swapped out Remington for Fred Mertz (the name suits the poor pooch). Kristin, Tyler, and the other Lone Star Veterinary employees don their sleuthing caps to find out what happened to Remington. Barking Up the Wrong Tree by Janice Thompson is the third tale in Gone to the Dog Mysteries. It can be read as a standalone for those new to the series. The author has a casual writing style which makes the story easy to read. Kristin has purchased a home. She has stacks of boxes everywhere. Kristin’s parents come to town and quickly set her home to rights. Tyler gets to meet Kristin’s parents and soon finds himself with a paintbrush in his hand. Kristin’s parents provide plenty of humor. Kristin has a quirky family. It bodes well for Kristin and Tyler’s relationship that Tyler fits right in. I like Kristin’s friendly and helpful neighbor. I would love for him to live next to me. The whodunit is unique. Someone has switched out a Sheltie who just took first place in an agility competition. There is a handful of suspects. Kristin and rest of the Lone Star Veterinary gang check out the suspects and ask questions. It is an easy mystery to solve. There might as well be a neon arrow pointed at the guilty party. I enjoyed the reveal. I feel that the story leaned more towards the romance genre than cozy mystery. I wanted a more complex mystery and a smidgen of romance. I like that the books in this series are Christian cozy mysteries. There are some good themes in the story (making snap judgements, helping others, and the importance of following the path God has laid out for you). I like how the crew from the veterinary clinic help others. I think it is wonderful that they donate their time to the local animal shelters. We get to learn about dog breeders. There are reputable dog breeders and there are those who should not be allowed to own a cactus much less an animal. I cringed when reading about the conditions some dogs found themselves in. Barking Up the Wrong Tree is a goob time with a dognapped doggo, visiting parents, a kindly neighbor, a Fred Mertz marathon, fishing fun, and a community coming together.

The third in a series of cozy mysteries featuring a veterinary clinic and a canine rescue nonprofit, BARKING UP THE WRONG TREE has everyone at both the rescue mission and the clinic searching for a dog-napped sheltie. Remington, the missing pooch, had just won a recent agility contest and was supposed to be training for nationals. This time vet Kristin Keller leads the search, in between settling into her first home and pursuing a budding romance with fellow clinic partner. Suspects abound, plus there are lots of other tail waggers to keep dog lovers interested and good Southern cooking to keep the foodies interested, too. I don't read a steady diet of cozy mysteries, but this one was an easy, entertaining read. Sidelined with a virus and snowy northern weather, curling up with my own fur buddy and reading BARKING UP THE WRONG TREE filled a chilly afternoon. Just wish, there had a been a peach cobbler or coconut pecan cake for a snack! I received a copy of this title from Netgalley. All opinions are mine.

I love this series which is centered around a dog rescue, Second Chance Ranch, and the veterinary clinic that helps support it. The third in the series, this book focuses on veterinarian Kristen. She has had a small part in the other books, so readers get to know more about her and fellow vet, and employer, Tyler.
The series has a heart for featuring the need for rescue services to protect and rehome abandoned and neglected dogs. This book can be a stand-alone but having read the first two I highly suggest you read them to get the full background about the rescue and clinic along with the endearing characters, including Grandma Peach.
Humor and mystery are strong factors in the series. The story of a champion competition canine completely changing from a loving personality to the growling, snippy center of a nefarious mystery got my attention right away. At one point I thought I knew what was going on but that changed more than once. It's a solid mystery filled with great characters, touches of romance and inspiration. I want to thank Barbour Publishing and NetGalley for the advanced reader's copy of the book. This is my own personal opinion; I thoroughly enjoyed this story and eagerly look forward to more!

When I saw this was releasing sooner than the date that showed in NetGalley, I hoped I could get it done in time, but no worries there. Once I started reading, I couldn't stop! It was great to read about the vet/office team at Lone Star clinic especially when they were sleuthing. And while I'm all about cozy murder mysteries, I've never minded that this series doesn't have that. I get so wrapped up in the characters and how they're going about solving the mystery, it just never seems to matter if it's a murder or a swapped-out dog.

I love how there's always a couple of side stories about the friends doing some positive things and goodwill gestures for some of the neighbors like Mr. Robbins finally adopting a dog or Mr. Flores getting some much-needed house and yardwork help. But the ones who aren't the good guys never get away with it--that you can count on! It was great how the crew flushed out the missing dog.

Grandma's wedding was awesome especially what happened at the reception! Super sweet and just fun to visit with these characters again. I enjoyed this book being from Kristin's viewpoint too!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book provided by Barbour Publishing via NetGalley, and my opinions are my own.

** God will make a way. When He’s in a thing, well, He always does.” **

Janice Thompson delivers a delightfully heart-warming story with “Barking Up the Wrong Tree,” the third installment in the Gone to the Dogs series she shares with Kathleen Y’Barbo.

When the gang at Lone Star Veterinary Clinic realizes one of their star clients, an award-winning Sheltie named Remington, has been swapped out for a different sickly dog, they join forces to help look for the missing canine.

As the vets Dr. Kristin and Dr. Tyler join forces with their staff, they weed through several suspects — a bad groomer Danielle, a bad breeder Andrea, and the president of an inferior dog food company Kirk.

Will they find the missing Remington? And will Kristin allow her heart to open up to the hunky Dr. Tyler — and maybe even a dog of her own?

Thompson once again offers up a fun story filled with emotion and mystery. She creates wonderful characters that are filled with inspiration but also with flaws. She includes some great themes, too, like the importance of perspective; the impact of making judgements; the effect of good neighbors; recognizing the blessings we have; and God will always make a way.

Told with an almost Mitford-like tone, readers of small town stories, cozy mysteries and animal stories will love “Barking Up the Wrong Tree,” which is due out Jan. 1.

Five stars out of five.

I will leave a review on Jan 1st on Amazon and B&N

Having three Sheltie's of my own, I found this to be a enjoyable read. I love most books that contain dogs, in some aspect. When Remington who just won the Texas state agility competition disappears and another dog is put in his place Kristin Keller his Veterinarian and the staff at the office go in search of answers to find out what happened to him. We get great insight into the clinic and the peole that work there, also how they work together to help others in their community. I found this to be a very enjoyable read. I would recommend it to others.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and Barbour Publishing, for an honest review.

Barking Up the Wrong Tree is book three in this great series. A champion dog named Remington is missing after winning a state agility championship. Can he be found before Nationals? Bring in the vets from Lonestar with lots of suspects after vet Kristin discovers the dog left in Remi's place is not him. Where could he be? His family, the vets, and the agility community are all on the lookout. Could he be right under their noses? Mari’s rescue continues to grow and as she places dogs more arrive. Her Grandma Peach is getting married soon to the Reverend Nelson. In the end things turn out well, except perhaps for the kidnapper but maybe they learned something about Christian kindness. A lovely story with quirky, Christian characters doing their part to help animals and people.

I received an advance copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

When and how did someone slip a ringer (a sick one!) into the household of friends who are teaching their Sheltie to participate in agility competition.
This is a lovely cozy mystery with emphasis on dogs (super!), relatable characters, and a cohesive story. Lessons on disreputable breeders, breed specifics, championships, compassionate care of rescue dogs are worked into the story wherever appropriate.
I requested and received a free EARC from Barbour Publishing/Barbour Fiction via NetGalley. Thank you

Unfortunately, this book didn't work well for me. The dialogue seemed to be never-ending and immature at times. the mystery was easily predictable and the story was disjointed at times.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A sweet mystery with a hearty dose of doggy mayhem!

This is the second “Gone to the Dogs” review for me, and I feel even more warm and fuzzy than I did after book 1. Thompson seems to come into her own with these established characters and spend more time creating an exciting adventure in solving the mystery on the missing sheltie, “Remington”.

As I didn’t read book 2, I definitely felt a gap in some of the plot twists that only happens when reading all the books in the series. But I enjoyed the easygoing rhythm and distinctive cadence of all the regular characters that book one seemed to be lacking.

A heartwarming read for this lover of cozy mysteries, rescue dogs and food!

This is the third book in this series, and the authors do a wonderful job of updating us, but each book does build on the next. There are recurring characters, and the building of the veterinary practice, and the dog rescue.

This book does have another mystery, and yes you will be guessing, and maybe changing your mind, I did!

I love the caring and giving going on here, both human and canine, this is such a warm hearted read, and it makes you want to hold you dog close.

There are twists and turns and we are looking for a champion dog, a beautiful Sheltie, but we get to see what happens to the imposter, not what you expect!

I loved this series, and it does come to a great conclusion, but I wish it didn't have to end!

I received this book through Net Galley and the Published Barbour, and was not required to give a positive review.

This was another fun addition to the series. Each book follows a different character, so they're all standalones.

This is Kristin's story, and I loved getting to know her better. She's a great vet who really cares about her patients. She really goes the extra mile for them. She's thrown into a mystery surrounding one of her regular clients, an award-winning Sheltie named Remington. Come to find out, the dog she's treating isn't actually Remi, but an imposter! What happened to the real Remi? Did someone switch dogs? And if so, why?

I loved how the whole team of employees at the vet clinic pulled together to solve the mystery surrounding Remi. They really went out of their way to find him, which was so refreshing to see.

I thought the mystery was really well done. It definitely kept me guessing. It could've been any one of the many suspects. Towards the end of the story, I did start to have strong suspicions about one of them and was excited when my guess turned out to be right.

I highly recommend this story to anyone who enjoys small towns and feel-good cozy mysteries.

I received an advanced copy of this book via NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.
