Barking Up the Wrong Tree by Janice Thompson is the third book in the Gone to the Dogs series. A Sheltie named Remington "Remi" has won Best All-Around at the Texas State Agility Competition. Shortly thereafter Remi is brought into the Lone Star Veterinary Clinic where amateur sleuth Kristen Keller is one of the practicing veterinarians. But, as it turns out, Remi isn't really Remi. Somehow another dog has been substituted for the winning agility dog. Thus begins the hunt for the real Remi by the clinic veterinarians and staff. This was a really fun mystery to read. I loved all the characters. They all seems so genuine. They all cared so much about the animals and how they volunteer their assistance to help people in need is praise-worthy. The surprises at the end of the book were really fun.

This is the third in the lovely story of a vet clinic.
Kristin just moves into her apartment, has a crush on Tyler.
They help dogs, cats and small animals whom need their care.
A dog comes in whom changed his character, with his owners having a baby on the way it's hard for them.
After checking the dogs bloodwork, it is a completely different dog.
Looks like a Sheltie but is not their dog.
Everyone on there Vet team are pulling their weight to find the missing dog

It's a great cozy mystery, my first read in this series.
I love the way Janice writes, when I open her book and read, a rest comes over me.
And forget all the daily troubles.
Thank you Janice and Netgally for this opportunity to read Barking up the Wrong Tree.
I hope this series continues

OK, so I'm hooked on (or should I say leashed to? ;)) this series!! It has such great characters, for one thing. It's lighthearted and fun, for another thing. And although it has romance, it's not TOO mushy!! So, I love that, because I'm not a big fan of too much romance, if you know what I mean. I love the new developments in this book, too!
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance e-copy of this book! All opinions expressed are entirely my own.

A missing pet, every pet owner's worst nightmare. Even worse, this one doesn't seem to have wandered off on his own. Remington is a champion agility dog and had just won a trip to nationals when something strange happens. Oh, the family still has a dog, a Sheltie, who looks like Remi, but is of an entirely different disposition and health status. A blood test reveals the truth. The dog the family has been so worried about isn't Remington.

I found this an intriguing read for several reasons. First, well, I'm a sucker for anything dog and the cover photo immediately reeled me in. I once owned a Sheltie mix, two, so was automatically drawn to the story. Three, four and five, I have friends who do rescue (my own dog is a rescue) and friends who work at a vet clinic. It was interesting to follow the routine of this fictional clinic, knowing how close to reality it was. It was also nice, quite frankly, to read a mystery that didn't involve a murder. Yes, all mysteries don't require a dead body and this one is proof.

Aside from the mystery of Remington's well-being and focus on dog rescue, there was ample time for the character stories to be developed, too. Kristin Keller's family was open and loving and, oh, so very Southern in speech and manner. They immediately took to Tyler, too, Kristin's co-worker and romantic interest. Although we never actually meet his family, we learn a great deal about them (and Tyler) through his memories as he shares with Kristin. God also plays a major, visible role in the story but without beating you over the head. Scriptures used are from the New Life Version Bible, I might note, but most used relate to the animal/human bond and simply caring for all. All God's creatures are important and deserve love, in other words.

Bottom line, if you want to read a sweet, easy-to-read mystery that doesn't involve bloodshed but has its tense moments nevertheless, give this one a read. There are, of course, lots of dogs, even a sad, abandoned corgi, but also romance, food, oh, my, the food, a delicious sounding recipe, and, hey, a country music star. And, of course, if you are a dog lover, so much the better. Thanks #NetGalley and #BarbourPublishing - #BarbourFiction for introducing me to this book. I'll definitely be on the lookout for previous books as well as anything else by the author.

Barking Up the Wrong Tree is a great ending to the three book series. Veterinarian Kristin wants to find her friends dog, Remington, who goes missing after winning a Texas agility competition. She enlists her friends from the vet's office to sleuth with her. This is a fun story that also highlights the proper ways to care for dogs. Well written and funny, Thompson does a great job capturing the mystery and the characters, plus she throws in a little romance. I was given this book for free, Opinions are my own.

Barking Up The Wrong Tree is a great continuation of this series. It can definitely be read as a stand alone story, too. I enjoyed the twists and turns in this plot and how the reader had all kinds of scenarios to work out in order to solve the mystery. So many people with motive, or opportunity, or even suspicious circumstances! I really enjoyed watching Kristin grow in her own self image and in her own personal character. She has been an adult out on her own for a little while, but this story seemed to me to really show her growing into the woman, the vet, the friend, the daughter, etc. that God wants her to be. Tyler, Parker, Mari, and the other coworkers from the vet clinic, along with Kristin’s own parents really seem to help guide her as she grew throughout this story. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I hope many others do also. Dog lovers or not, this story is a good one.

I requested and received a copy of this book for review. The thoughts and opinions expressed here are wholly my own.

"Barking Up the Wrong Tree”, the third book in the Gone to the Dogs cozy mystery series, is a delightful mystery. I have not read the first two books in the series but I want to after reading this one – it looks like each book in the series is from the view point of a different character which is a nice, unique touch. This book is from Kristin Keller’s viewpoint and I loved reading about her feelings about her large extended, somewhat quirky family both from her perspective and love interest Tyler’s viewpoint. If you are looking for a murder mystery this is not the book for you – there are no dead bodies in this book – but there is a mystery and lots of suspects that make this book fun to read and you can try to solve the mystery alongside Kristin and her coworkers and friends. Speaking of fun – while there are some serious themes in this book that are not treated lightly, it is one of the funniest books I’ve read in a long time – I laughed out loud more than once while reading it!

“Barking Up the Wrong Tree” is a deliciously funny cozy mystery.

A Nashville country music star,Trina Potter, buys a ranch for her niece, Mari who wants to open a rescue for dogs. Set in Texas, this is a fun but good cozy with great characters. Good story plot. This is the second in the series but can easily be read as a standalone. Very enjoyable read! Thanks##netgalley and #BarbourPublishing for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine.

BARKING UP THE WRONG TREE by JANICE THOMPSON is book three of the Gone to the Dogs series, and it is a delightful and exciting read. It is a story about second chances for animals as well as people.
The Lone Star employees, with their usual enthusiasm for helping animals in distress, come out in full force to solve the mystery of Remington Anderson’s strange behaviour. We see how their search for the truth uncovers all kinds of cruelty to animals. Mari seems to be the main sleuth, and, together with her boyfriend Parker, is particularly fearless in her fight to save animals who are being ill treated.
There is also a good Christian message and we are reminded that Proverbs 12:10 says “A man who is right with God cares for his animal, but the sinful man is hard and has no pity.”
Dr Kristin Keller is the narrator in this story, and we get to know her and her interesting and rather overbearing family who she bravely introduces to Dr Tyler Durham, hoping it will not mean the end of their growing relationship!
I really like the friendship amongst the interesting young people who work for Tyler and also enjoy Marigold’s Grandma Peach with her ornery and spoilt cat, Hector, and her fiance Reverend Nelson.
I particularly like the way the animals’ personalities play a big part in the book.
I found Barking up the Wrong Tree amusing and inspirational, and highly recommend the novel.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Barbour Publishing. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

In Anything But Plain, Suzanne Woods Fisher introduces us to a young woman who is “anything but plain” in the traditional Amish sense.

Lydia “Lydie” Stoltzfus, a young Amish girl, seems to be an accident waiting to happen. Everything she does or attempts to do, it seems, ends in failure or turns into a disaster. Her track record of failing jobs is infamous and legendary.

Nathan Yoder struggles to assist his father in managing their farm, which has deteriorated from outmoded and destructive agricultural practices.

Despite the fact that Lydie and Nathan care for one another, external factors (including Lydie) work against their relationship. Can kindhearted "Dok," the neighborhood physician and Lydie's relative, help?

I always enjoy reading Suzanne Woods Fisher's books, and this one is no exception. I especially enjoyed the premise of the story. Her Amish stories are real and wholesome. Anything But Plain will deeply move you and tug mightily on your heartstrings.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit through NetGalley. All opinions are my own, and I am voluntarily leaving this review.

Janice Hanna Thompson's "Barking Up the Wrong Tree" is a cute cozy mystery with a touch of romance.

I chose to read this book from NetGalley because I enjoyed the Weddings by Bella series by the same author.

This third book in the Gone to the Dogs series is set in Texas, and the mystery centers around a stolen show dog named Remington. The majority of the cast of characters work at a veterinarian's office. The book kept me guessing until the end. Thompson does a great job with red herrings, characterization, and voice.

While this is the third book in a series, it can be read alone. I hadn't read the other books in the series but am interested in reading them.

One thing I appreciate about Thompson's books are that they are all very upbeat. Also, Thompson included a recipe at the end of the book.

This book would appeal to readers who enjoy cozy mysteries, romance, and/or are dog lovers or whose hobbies include pet rescue, which is a dominant topic in the book.

I obtained a free copy of this book from NetGalley, but I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.

While the whole practice is involved in this book, we have a bit more on Kristin and it’s a great read! These are the cleanest cozies I have read and if you’re taken aback by some cozy series content, this one is definitely for you! A great series with solid mysteries each and every time!

Kristen is a new vet in a practice. When a regular customer comes in to report that their dog, which has just won the Texas agility contest missing, she and everyone in the veterinarian practice feel they need to help the owners find their missing dog. Thus begins their journey to find the missing dog. Along the way, we get a good look at the practice staff. Kristin has a crush on the other vet, and finds her interest reciprocated. Mari, who runs a rescue mission along with her job at the practice, becomes more and more enamored with another practice staff member, and her love is likewise reciprocated. There are a few other staff members who are totally interested in dogs and will do anything to help and take care of them. Finding the missing dog takes the crew on a series of moves, some helpful in their search and some just red herrings.

This is a book for dog lovers who enjoy a great mystery. I liked the staff of the vet clinic and became a part of it all as I read the book. The interactions between the staff were spot on and fantastic. What a wonderful place to work! I have not read any other books in the series or by the author but will after reading this one. This book gets well deserved five stars from me. I received this from NetGalley to read and review.

Wow! Thompson really had me guessing until the end! Didn't figure it out until almost the end! What a great story! I'm loving this series and I got my wish! I was hoping the author would write more!
This one is my favorite so far!
Kristin is really cool! Her family is too even though they're way out there but that is what I love about them. They're not afraid to be themselves.
Mari is my favorite character. I like her because of her passion for animals and wanting to help them in any way she can.
In a way I think that this is really her story because it involves her grandmother Peaches. ( what a cute name).
My favorite thing about this story is that it is told from Kristin's point of view. I could relate to her so much better.
My other favorite thing about this book is how the characters refer and pray to God and let him take control of their adventure.
I am loving this series so much. I hope it doesn't end for a while.
Poor Remington and "Fed!" I felt sorry for them. I even found myself praying for them and that everything would turn out all right lol. After all, dogs have feelings too!
This story was such a delight and fun to read. I highly recommend it.
My thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
