I find flash fiction so fascinating - to pack the punch of a full novel in such a low word count. It is truly an art. Many of the selections included here read more like prompts or elevator speeches intended to sell a whole novel. It often left me wanting to read more of the story presented to me, which, I suppose, is part of the point!

A fun, first time kind of read for me.
Each story is 100 words or perhaps less in some cases. Quick enough to read ANYWHERE. And such intriguing stories too, makes the mind wander and ponder a bit.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this book.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read in exchange for an honest review.

I may have found a new genre to explore - this was SO MUCH FUN! I once visited a library that had a cafe inside and while you waited for your order there was a little machine that would spit out sotries based on the time you had (5 minutes, 3 minutes, 1 minute). They were so fun to read! This is basically an entire book of those snippets - incomplete, yet containing a whole story. There truly is an art to writing enough, just 101 words.

Some good stories in this volume and a few that were OK. Overall I enjoyed the experience of reading this collection.

This was a great book to read when I only had a few un-interupted minutes. Amazingly, each of these 101 stories stands on its own, and many of these contained anticipation of the climax.

I eagerly await volume 2!

101 Stories 101 Words Each

I am reviewing a copy of Fast Fiction through Independent Book Publishers and Netgalley:

Fast fiction is like entering a cafe where the menu is filled with nothing but literary appetizers. Designed to be quickly consumed and digested. In the short pieces you'll meet people with secrets and others who wished they knew how to keep them; characters looking to exact revenge and others getting their just desserts when karma calls. Fans of the combo platter will see it all here, from the dark to the darkly comical; the laugh-out-loud funny to the thought-provoking; offering more twists and turns than a pretzel more ups and downs than a souffle.

Even if you do not have time to put your feet up, you can find the time to indulge in a few of these 101 word tales.

I give Fast Fiction four out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

I found myself returning to this book every time I had spare time to read another piece of fiction. I cannot say that there is one that stood out more than the other, but I enjoyed it all the same and finished it the first day I started. Had a lot of free time that day. I have already recommended this book to a couple of my friends who constantly tell me they don't have time to read, and so far both are enjoying it immensely.

Fast Fiction
101 Stories 101 Words Each
by Scotty Cornfield
I will say, in less than 101 words, it was pretty tricky, and I was amazed he did pull it off. One prompt and Scotty Cornfield told a story, not just one, but many. Very witty to read, some were even less, but NONE were 102 words. So, I bow to this smarty man. 101 smiles.

Super funny, clever, and really draws you in. From a premise of a word or expression, the author fashions a story of 101 words. The stories are sometimes like mini-Twilight Zone episodes, full of surprises, and are really punchy. Sometimes I had to look up the meaning of the prompt word, so I built up my vocabulary. This book is really a joy and is an easy and captivating read. Truly entertaining and pithy, too.

I will hold my hands up and say my dislike of this book is entirely my fault. I didn’t really take in how short 101 words truly was. It is a book of 101 very short stories based on a prompt. Not one has stuck with me. I feel this book would be great for aspiring writers.

Fast Fiction by Scotty Cornfield is a clever collection of stories. In this book, Mr. Cornfield has included 101 ‘stories’ that are 101 words long each and at the end of each story he includes the writing prompt that inspired the short work of fiction. I have to say the nature of the book does make it a bit difficult to review. This is less a book in the traditional sense and more of an insight into the creative process of a writer’s mind. Which I found very cool. I even made a game of attempting to guess what the prompt was before reaching the end. I was almost always wrong, lol. I have to say I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book and hope Mr. Cornfield puts out another in the future. I’d like to thank the publisher and NetGalley for the chance to read an ARC of Fast Fiction.

I tried so hard to make this review in100 and one words and even that was impossible. So to get a book with hundreds of complete stories done and 101 words to me is amazing. Not only that these stories is so addicting I thought I would read a few because they were so good I would save the rest for later, but before I knew it there was only a few stories left and even though it felt like 30 minutes and passed it was much longer than that. people send Mr. cornfield props and he makes a story fromps and he writes a story that is 101 words. I really enjoyed this book and hope Mr. cornfield puts out more books in the future as I said they’re so addicting and because of that this book totally deserves five stars. I received this book from NetGalley and I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

I’m the first to rate and review this book. I’ll try to be kind.
There is actually a skill to telling story succinctly. I’ve tried it with various parameters from 50 words to micro-fiction to flash fiction and it isn’t as easy as it seems.
The author of this collection seems to have a knack for being able to tell a more or less complete story in 101 words and that’s fairly impressive. Whether he succeeds in telling good stories of 101 words will largely depend on a reader.
This reader wasn’t overly impressed and found some repetitiveness and some outright silliness, but it was a very quick read and mildly diverting too.
More of a one trick pony sort of thing than a book about a pony, if that makes sense. Not much meat (textually), but kind of neat (conceptually). Does that make sense? A gimmick book.
Either way, it was fine. Perfect for reading on the go, on the toilet, or people with attention deficits. Occasionally cute. Thanks Netgalley.
