The Cairo Curse is an entertaining story complete with an Egyptian honeymoon for newlyweds Grace and Freddie from Pepper Basham's The Mistletoe Countess! 4 stars!

Readers will enjoy the exploits of book loving Grace as she pulls out her sleuthing skills once again to solve the mysteries revolving around stolen artifacts and murder. Freddie has his hands full trying to keep up with her and keeping her out of trouble too. Basham covers three genres in this charming story with mystery, romance and a side of romcom.

My favorite quote, classic Grace,
"A healthy love of fiction can either tempt us toward happy-ever-after or a woe-to-thee horrible worldview, depending on the types we choose to read most often. I like to think that my view is framed by a solid faith, so it must tilt toward the former rather than the latter."

I appreciate Barbour Fiction making a copy of The Cairo Curse available for review. All thoughts and opinions are my very own.

Grace and Frederick from The Mistletoe Countess are back with an Agatha Christie-style excursion to Egypt. I've never read a mystery like this one from Basham before, and it hit all the right notes for a mystery. Elliott is the star of the show here as we get to see a little bit more about who he was how he became the steady, lovable companion he is.
I'm not particularly interested in Egyptology, and I prefer the writing and setting of Basham's Appalachian books, but it was nice to spend time with favorite characters and be reminded that all creation declares the glory of God, even the desert.

I read an ecopy from the publisher and Netgalley but all opinions are my own.

Frederick and Grace are at it again… Off on a honeymoon trip to Italy, by way of a detour to Egypt, it's no surprise when trouble finds them (in part thanks to Grace's generous nature). Quick to practice her detective skills, Grace is as eager to get the root of the murders as Frederick is to keep her away from danger.

With a bit of a Death on the Nile feel, there's some fascinating Egyptian history and magnificent descriptions. There's even a subplot that has me hoping for a story featuring Elliott someday!

If you fell in love with Grace in The Mistletoes Countess, you won't want to miss the continuing adventures of Freddie and Grace.

The Cairo Curse is a continuation of the story of Lord and Lady Astley from The Mistletoe Countess, but readers can read this story without the first and still thoroughly enjoy it. Pepper Basham has created such delightful characters in this story! From the Lord and Lady Astley to the young girl they meet on the streets of Egypt to the aristocratic characters and relatives, each character has a vital role in making this story amazing. It would seem that Lady Astley cannot seem to escape adventure wherever she goes. Her fascination with fiction and fictional characters seems to feed the adventure while also somehow helping to deliver her from the perils of her adventures. I highly recommend this book. Whether a history buff or an adventure lover, the reader is sure to be swept up in this account of history, intrigue, mystery, and romance.

I requested and received a copy of this book for review. The words and opinions expressed here are wholly my own.

What a fitting sequel to The Mistletoe Countess! Grace and Freddie, two of my all-time favorite fictional characters, are back with another exciting, suspenseful, chaotic adventure as unpredictable as Grace herself! Set in 1914, this story grabbed me from the beginning and held me fast to the end. Ms. Basham’s masterful use of descriptive language and expert storytelling skill bring this well-researched story and the Egyptian setting to life. The characters, main and secondary, are well-crafted and memorable. The well-structured plot—involving murder, stolen antiquities, and treacherous ancient tombs—flows at a steady pace and keeps you engaged and guessing. A bit of romance, humor, and inspiring faith messages are skillfully planted in just the right places to lighten the mood of the narrative. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I was attracted to this book by the cover and by the title, and of course, also by the author, Pepper Basham, who always tells a good story. And, as expected, Ms. Basham has once again given us a great read. If you enjoyed The Mistletoe Countess, you are sure to enjoy The Cairo Curse. Described as a Clue meets Indiana Jones, newlyweds Lord and Lady Ashley (Grace and Frederick) find their honeymoon is not exactly what they expected! Mystery, humor, vivid descriptions, and great characters make this a delightful read.

I received a copy of The Cairo Curse from Barbour Publishing and Net Galley. The opinions are my own.

So much fun to see Grace and Frederick in a new adventure!

This story has everything: romance, mystery, action, and adventure! It does feel like an Indiana Jones one, minus the snakes in the cave. I loved the Egyptian setting and the archeology, the secondary characters rounded up the story very nicely.

I hope there will be more adventures for this couple in the future!

I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

If you love romance, with some mystery, adventure and action thrown in, this is the book for you! I like the characters, especially Grace!! I wouldn't recommend this for under 12 or 13 , because there are a few steamy spots, which are not inappropriate or anything, just not for the younger age. One thing I highly recommend is reading book 1 in the series first. I didn't do thus, and wish I had.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance e-copy of this book! All opinions are entirely my own.

An amazing detailed plot in this book kept the suspense and anticipation all the way through. The development of the characters was so encouraging and a reminder that we can care for people and create wonderful family groupings.

I ADORED The Mistletoe Countess and was thrilled to find out a 2nd Freddy and Grace book was in the works. So as soon as The Cairo Curse became available on NetGalley, I snatched it up! And it had such a strong start...but sadly for some reason didn't keep me engaged. And I'm so sad about that. This novel felt jumpy with lots of action happening in between too many slower/dragging parts. Grace and Freddy retained their same personalities from the first book, which did also include a lot of action to move the plot along. But this time around, the action felt as superfluous as the amount of characters. I wanted more quiet and humorous moments with Freddy and Grace, which there were a few related to the two of them trying to solve the mystery. This was supposed to be their honeymoon after all. I do get it, though. Just a honeymoon story probably wouldn't be as interesting. Maybe I'll give this book another shot in a few months. Or read The Mistletoe Countess for the 3rd time!

I was interested in this book because both the title and description appealed to me. I liked the idea of an adventure or mystery story set in Egypt.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought the writing in general was excellent - the author made both the setting and the characters come to life. The protagonists had a certain kind of likeability for me, and I related to Grace and her enthusiasm for books and reading.

The story itself was intriguing from the start, and it was light enough to read in one sitting. I understand that this book is part of a series, so I would definitely be interested in reading the others.

This follow up book to 'The Mistletoe Countess' offers all you could ever want from a sequel: the same well written and loveable main characters, humor, wacky situations and mystery. The setting added to the interest of the book and led to some interesting situations arising.

I really enjoyed this book and it will make an appearance in my library. This author knows what the right amount of quirk is to put in a story without making it ridiculous - e.g. the camel incident. I love the characters faith which adds an extra element.

I receive complimentary books for various sources including, Netgalley, Authors, and other such sources. I am not required to write a positive review and have not received compensation. I do so hope for a third book in the series. Read both books, you'll thank me.

In THE CAIRO CURSE by PEPPER BASHAM we come across the delightful Lord and lady Astley, Frederick Grace, from The Mistletoe Countess, who have survived the first few months of marriage, which so far has been fraught with danger, and are now on their honeymoon. Instead of going straight to Venice as planned, they start out in Egypt where they join Freddie’s cousin Georgia and her boorish husband Sydney, on an archeological expedition. Grace, whose head is full of facts she has researched on camels, pyramids, pharaohs and mummies, couldn’t be happier. Her favourite things are “bookish conversations,, life-threatening adventures” and the “wonderfully romantic gestures” of her beloved husband, her very own “handsome hero”, in her fairy tale life which follows hard after the lives of her favourite fictional characters. This young woman, who is full of love, imagination, compassion, and faith in God, is definitely not a “proper” lady and sees herself as an amateur detective, has become one of my favourite fictional characters, together with her once morose and broken husband, Lord Astley. She is very amusing and is only too happy to make people laugh.
This book has everything you need for a delightful and thrilling read - suspense, murder, curses, betrayal, pyramids and tombs, thieves, camel rides, romance, and some most unscrupulous characters. Running through the story there is also a strong Christian message of redemption.
I cannot recommend The Cairo Curse strongly enough.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Barbour Publishing. The opinions in this review are completely my own.
