Over all i would say this is a good book. However saying that i personally found it hard to get into. I can see it appealing to a lot of the younger persons. I think the storyline seemed to jump a little too much for me and i just couldn’t connect to the characters at all. It had so much potential.

I really wanted to love this book as it’s a completely different, surreal, humorous style of fantasy. Unfortunately the tone just didn’t work for me and I couldn’t get into it.

The main characters are doctors which also didn’t help because the beginning of the book describes a few grotesque bodily issues which really put me off. I do think the setup was otherwise very interesting - a couple of doctors going to war in a strange fantasy land, with what seemed like an unreliable, entertaining narrator.

Although it’s not for me I’m fairly certain other, less squeamish people will find it more to their taste.

I'm always a fan of the weird and the wacky, and there's certainly plenty of that there, but the book needs some severe tightening. The humor is there, and the characters are fun, but on the whole, it could stand to eliminate a lot of extraneous elements to form a more engaging core.

This story follows Kilco, the daughter of a renowned doctor who works in her mother's infirmary. She is young and edgy but wants to do good. With her mother she moves to work in a war camp and soon finds herself entangled in different dark mysteries and complicated relationships with various extraordinary people.

It sounds interesting and promising, also this book sets an absurd and a little bit harsh mood, which I usually like. But it sadly didn't work for me this time.

Let's start with the things I enjoyed and that were engaging and intriguing.

Every chapter starts with the name of some phobia - and then in some way, it plays out inside the chapter's events. A nice detail.
The main character and her mother are doctors and a lot of events happen inside the infirmary. I think it's an interesting point of view for the book and it can show a lot of details about the war, people's behavior, and strengths/weaknesses.
The setting itself seems rather fresh and fascinating with a lot of things to explore
The main character is an unreliable narrator, so you need to pay attention - many things can be not what it seems
After it, we can follow to things that didn't work for me
Book's structure. The plot starts only at 50% point and it's really hard to stay focused and interested in events by this point.
Before it, the book mostly follows different turns in our main character's relationships and sometimes it feels repetitive and excessive.
And after the 50% mark, I felt like all the plot I wanted in the first half of the book was delivered to me in one concentrated wave. I felt confused, for me it was really hard to understand all the tricky details at one moment.
Humor didn't work for me. It's a subjective thing, so this is on me.
All in all, I honestly would recommend another revision to this book. It just needs a more solid plot as a carcass for the story from the beginning. I'm sure all the best things about it would shine much brighter if it had a leading force.

This is a great fantasy book in that it will appeal to almost any age group. Although I felt like it was hard to follow at times simply because it jumped around a bit. Honestly, though I feel like my middle school age kids will especially enjoy it and I plan to share it with them.

I so wanted to love Remnants of Atonement. The plot sounded right up my alley, and I usually appreciate high fantasy novels for their creativity to build a whole new world and societal systems. Unfortunately I couldn’t get into this story. I tried (and retried) several times, but struggled to get through the chapters. And it’s definitely a case of It’s Me Not You, because the narrative is quite interesting and there is a lot of potential for this story to take off. It just didn’t work for me this time around.

This book was not for me. It was incredibly slow going in, the world building was sloppy and some of the dialogue would better fit a middle grade book. The story skips a lot and it's difficult to pinpoint what the plot of the book actually is. Because the story was all over the place it It was incredibly hard to understand what was going on; at times it felt like there were pages of the book missing due to all of the plot holes. I could not care about the characters one bit and feel like they were not fully developed. It is why I gave this book two stars.

I absolutely loved Remnants of Atonement, it's a wild ride from start to finish. Every chapter is crazy and things just get weirder especially with Kilco being an unreliable narrator so you never really know what's' true or not. The premise, world building and characters are so interesting. I loved that everyone was at least slightly unhinged and sometimes you don't really know what is going on, but it is so fun to read and there are so many funny quotes.

I genuinely didn't want to finish this because I just wanted to read more crazy shenanigans and the rawness of the characters is so fresh and unique it is almost mesmerising to read. I really hope the sequel will be out soon - I think I found a new favourite author.

If you love fantasy, with dark humour and lots of descriptive gore and crazy monsters you'll love this.

This novel has a LOT of potential. The first quarter really drew me in with the way it was written and the quirky characters. It felt clever and funny and original. But by halfway through I was struggling. Scenes went on for too long, some pieces of information seemed out of place and not properly woven into the story.

I expect typos in arcs, but there is more editing required than that. The story needs tightening up, better segues, some sections cut out all together. I'd almost go so far as to say it feels like it is all Middle with no Start or End.

I'm still confused by the use of Mildura (I live there) as a girl's name as well as Deniliquin as another name and the horse being called Makybe. But I guess it's the author having a laugh.

Three stars but I believe with good editing I would likely give it four or even five.

This book is unhinged, in the best way possible. The narrator is unreliable and you are made to question everything you read. I loved the first two-thirds of the book, but the ending fell a little flat for me. Along with that, the writing could use some polishing. If the energy from the first part of the book had been carried through to the end, it would have been a solid four stars. Instead, it's 3.5.

I had a little bit of troubles getting into the book at first. Mostly due to the MC but after a while Kilco grew on me and I found the characters to be quite unique and engaging. I fell in love with them and the story the more I read. So glad I kept reading!

I unfortunately couldn't get into the story as I didn't connect to the main character. I found her quite annoying and stopped reading halfway through.

This was a super fun, original read that had me laughing out loud more than once. It fell down a little towards the end and felt a little chaotic and I wish more had been tied up and explained. I'm hoping for a few slight improvements from the writing in terms of my aforementioned gripes. Overall one of the best books I've read this year.

Don't give up...

...I almost did on this book. It was a little hard to keep things straight in the crazy tree world. Kilco was hard to like with her cynical view on life, but in the end she really pulled through! My favorites were Pogue and Pierous the immortal...just going with the flow guy.

All you really need to know about me is that I hated The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. If you liked it, then you will like this. Remants of atonement is weird with dumb humor wrapped up in a fantasy ya bow.

Unlike anything else I have read. Listen too it on Audible and absolutely loved the narration! Can't wait to listen to the rest.

the most relatable account of working medicine I've ever read in a fantasy story, Kilco is great fun, the story is great fun.

This book started off on a good foot, but I quickly lost the plot. It took about 50-ish percent of the book before anything really happened, and I still couldn't figure out where the book was trying to go overall. It became a real struggle to continue reading through it as the book progressed.

On a positive note, I found the characters fairly fun and engaging, and enjoyed the veiled pop culture references.

Overall, not a great start to what is, I guess, a series? I feel like this needs a rewrite and maybe a new editor. I will not be reading the other books.

This book requires some serious revisions and editing.

The grammar is atrocious. Most of the sentences run-on unnecessarily, without ever making a point. Most of the text neglects the book’s meandering plot and babbles about inane details. The same inane details are repetitively described three different ways telling me nothing that furthers the plot or develops the characters.

The main character has a childish, underdeveloped voice and comes across as the author’s random thoughts loosely organized in the form of a novel.

It’s worth working on but at this stage in the book’s development, it’s impossible to tell whether or not there’s a story here.

Remnants of Atonement is an impressive outing. I wouldn't say its a cohesive narrative, but a journey into the weird. Its Twin Peaks, but if written by a more modern, younger writer.

There is a story tying everything together, but the main attraction is the day to day happenings at the Armoury, and how Kilco manages them. The character of Kilco is actually very well written, relatable and is surprisingly well fleshed out.

The overriding plot is a bit weak however. Its a collection of interesting parts, the journey is great, the ending, not so much so. Even with that in mind, I would still give this a go. Its impressed me enough, to move on to the sequel when I am able to.
