I won't even pretend...The point at which I decided to DNF was around 80%. I don't care what happened at the end after I read the others' reviews. I have too many other books to get through. As horrible as this was....I gave it three stars since I enjoy this author's other works so much, but this one needs to be revised. Who uproots and starts over in another state because of a stalker? Marker Man is the stalker, and she is an actress. He's been writing her ominous notes and making her feel "watched" constantly. The language was often difficult to read and the story as a whole felt artificial. The characters' actions came out as inauthentic and ignorant. Without chapter headings, I had trouble keeping track of who was speaking. At no time was I even remotely interested. I'm disappointed because this writer has long been one of my favorites. I read as far as I did because it was an advanced copy, but this book was not for me. The author's future books will hopefully rectify this.

For the Arc, we must thank NG. The 25th of April, 2023: AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC

Meribel Mills was an actress and has always been watching for people that are a little too attached to the characters. She starts getting strange letters that are very unhinged and decides she's in danger.

She and her daughter, Honor, from LA to Georgia to give them space and a sense of security. She quickly feels like she is being watched and then the letters return.

This is a twisty thriller with lots of unexpected things throughout the book.

While this is not my favorite book Joshilyn Jackson has written, it is still a good book that I will recommend to my thriller loving friends.

I look forward to her next creation.

Thank you to NetGalley for this advanced readers copy.

A 2-star rating means it was ok. This was that, and a bit of a struggle to finish. I've enjoyed earlier Jackson books, and her personal narration as well, but neither met my expectations here.

I am grateful to NetGalley for the e-galley, but I waited for the audio version.

I found myself really enjoying this slow burn mystery. It’s not an edge of your seat thriller, but it was an easy book to slip into and just follow where it flowed. Honor was a great character and easily my favorite in the book. I found the switching POVs a bit tricky, and I wish the chapters would have had titles to allow the reader to know whose POV you were reading. My main problem with the book was the ending. I did not like how abruptly the book just stopped. It left me with so many questions and with an unfinished feeling. The book goes from 90 mph to zero and it has me wondering if the finished copies maybe have more chapters than the eARCs, I hope so.

This is a story of a stalker who is going after an older actress. Meribel is a single mother who moves herself and daughter from California to Atlanta to get away from a crazed fan. It doesn't help, he follows her. Who else might be watching—her ex-husband? The lover she left behind in LA? Her new neighbor? Suddenly, every man in her life is a suspect, but she can’t keep herself and her daughter safe from a monster she can’t identify. When the paths of all of these men collide, Meribel will find herself alone in the fight of her life, desperate to protect those she loves as danger closes in from all sides. I didn't really get into this story. I am a big Joshilyn Jackson fan and got a copy of this book based only on the author. I hate to admit I was a little disappointed.

I should begin by saying I didn’t finish this book, but by the time I jumped ship around 40% in, the characters had all utterly frustrated me. Perhaps I missed a vital plot point later on, but the stupid and reckless choices made by every adult character were not offset by any charisma or chemistry, and I seriously wanted to shake some sense into them. Have liked previous stories by this author, but this one wasn’t for me

📖 Book Review 📖

📱🎧 "With My Little Eye” by Joshilyn Jackson

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Thank you to @netgalley for this kindle edition

Slow moving and then bam 💥 everything collides at the end. So only 3.5 stars, from me.

Meribel, a now almost 40 year old actress, who is known for her role on a teen show many years ago, is being stalked. Letters written with a scented marker have been coming to her for years and finally when the stalker finds out where she lives, Meribel and her daughter move to Atlanta. She left her boyfriend in California and uprooted her life. Will the stalker follow her? Could he find her across the country? There are many throwaway storylines to throw the reader off- which sometimes just makes me crazy. When every man in her life becomes a suspect, and she is basically going mad not knowing who it is- Meribel finds herself in the fight for her life when danger gets too close.

Woof, this was a tough one to get through. I generally love Joshilyn Jackson thrillers but this was tough to keep up with. There were many different characters and each chapter was narrated by a different character. Yet there were no chapter titles so you didn't know which chapter correlated with which character. I found this to be confusing and annoying. I was very excited about the premise but found the execution underwhelming.

I was so grateful for the chance to read this, however, I just found that the writing didn’t fit my style. I read 3 chapters until i decided to move on to something else.

"The hair-raising story of a mother who moves herself and her daughter across the country to lose a dangerous stalker—only to discover that it will take more than distance to escape him."

I really enjoyed this book! It's not necessarily a "can't put down" thriller but a slow burn of suspense / mystery leading to a fulfilling ending. Extra creepy vibes complete with unwanted gift baskets and unrelenting notes. I thought at several points I figured out who the stalker was but Joshilyn had me gobsmacked!

I especially liked Joshilyn’s characterization of Maribel’s daughter Honor as being on the spectrum. I thought she did an excellent job of including a neurodivergent character without stereotyping. A solid plot that's super different; if you love a suspenseful mystery, pick this one up.

Thank you NetGalley, William Morrow and Joshilyn Jackson for letting me read “With My Little Eye” in exchange for an honest review.

This book i was so excited for, as the story sounded interesting but I was left so confused. It seemed to blend together, I never knew who was doing what and it didn't feel realistic. If you are a big thriller reader, this will most likely fall short

3.5 Rounded up.
The story is about a popular movie actress who has an uncanny intuition that someone is watching her... a stalker. He writes her threatening letters and stalks her so she moves from LA back to her hometown in Georgia.
There are some interesting characters in this one, and I really liked the storyline with good solid writing, but what I did not like was the weak main character Meribel Mills. She was so wishy washy it drove me crazy. I like a heroin to be strong and sensible. Meribel wasn't, and she ran away when things got hard in her life. It had so much promise, and there were two things going one in this one, which gave it a great twist! Lots of twists and turns in this one and had me guessing who the stalker was until it all came together at the end. I did like the book so much so I purchased the audio version, and it was good but Meribel had a whiny voice that drove me crazy. I really love Joshilyn Jackson's books, and I look forward to her next one. I do recommend this book whoever likes a good mystery/suspense.
A special thank you to William Morrow Publishing via NetGalley for the advanced readers copy.

I had mixed feelings on Mother May I and wanted try out another Joshilyn Jackson novel to see if I'd enjoy it more. I'd say I'm still mixed! The first 2/3 of this book is incredibly slow and I almost DNF'd, but then there is a BIG twist and it all seems to come together and it really turns around. POV was confusing at times as there were many characters and they weren't labeled. Overall, was quite entertained the last part of the book, but I'm not sure if it was for me.

With My Little Eye
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Author: Joshilyn Jackson

I requested a digital advanced readers copy from NetGalley and William Morrow and providing my opinion voluntarily and unbiased.

Synopsis: It started with the letters…

For actress Meribel Mills, disturbing fan mail is part of the price of fame. So when she starts getting creepy letters written in fruit-scented marker she is mostly unphased and diligently files them along with her other messages from unhinged fans. After all, she’s a single mom approaching forty, not the kind of hot young celeb who sparks dangerous obsessions. But there’s something different about Marker Man…

He’s been in her home…

Meribel’s sheets smell of unfamiliar cologne, and objects have gone missing around the house. Plus, the letters have become more perverse, with drawings of a naked Meribel tied up or chopped into pieces. While the police insist that stalkers hardly ever escalate to violence, Meribel has played the dead girl one too many times on TV to risk becoming her in real life. She and her daughter move from Los Angeles to Atlanta for a fresh start—but no distance is great enough.

He’s watching her…

Years of being in front of a camera have given Meribel a superpower—she can feel eyes on her, a creeping sensation like bees inside her skin. And someone definitely has her in their sights. Could Marker Man have followed her all the way across the country?

Who else might be watching—her ex-husband? The lover she left behind in LA? Her new neighbor? Suddenly, every man in her life is a suspect, but she can’t keep herself and her daughter safe from a monster she can’t identify. When the paths of all of these men collide, Meribel will find herself alone in the fight of her life, desperate to protect those she loves as danger closes in from all sides.

My Thoughts: This is slow burn thriller, with the thriller part incurring in the last part of the book. However, when the twists start coming, they don’t stop, it is one after another, after another. The last part was definitely exciting and heart beating fast. Meribel moved across country to get away from her stalker. She meets some interesting characters along the way. Her adopted daughter, Honor, is autistic. I think the author did a good job with this aspect.

The book is narrated by multiple characters, Meribel, Honor, Cam, Cooper, and some others, in their POV, it became too confusing. The chapters were not labeled so, it was hard to tell where one began and the other ended. I would have to read a few lines to understand whose POV was narrating. Some of the leading stories to the plot were not necessary, and even if they were, could have been wrapped up shorter. Some of the relationships were also irrelevant and could have been left out, while focusing on the more relevant relationships. Some of the subplots did not impact the overall plot, and at times were hard to follow.

The part as briefly mentioned is twisty, and even unpredictable. It really made getting through the first part worth it. The ending is surprising, creative, and I loved it. Usually Jackson’s writing style delivers a solid thriller, so I would still read other books of hers in the future. I just felt like the writing was not as solid as it normally is for this story. I would recommend giving this book a read, or even picking up the audiobook for a listen.

The characters weren’t that interesting except for Honor, the first half was very slow then a twist happened, and then the story ended abruptly. No resolution, no explanations, just ended. Not sure I’d recommend this except for Honor’s part.

With My Little Eye by Joshilyn Jackson is a story about Meribel, a famous actress, who has a stalker. She moves across the country with her daughter to get away and "hide". Unfortunately, this does not work out in her favor. This actually escalates the situation. I enjoyed the way the way it started slow and then the drama/horror got much more intense. I felt the ending was a little fast. As always, Jackson is great with southern settings and characters. Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for the advanced copy of this. All opinions are my own.

⭐⭐.5/5

• stalker suspense
• POV was confusing

Unfortunately, I just didn't connect to the characters or the story. The writing also seemed kind of all over the place. Things did pick up a little with the ending which is why I'm giving it this rating.
