Wow. I don’t really like non-fiction or memoirs, but this one just blew me away. It really spoke to me, and I enjoyed it a lot.

I have followed Carlos Whittaker for the last couple of years and consider myself a part of the Instafamilia, but even if you have no idea who he is (or maybe especially if you don't know who he is), this book is a must-read. Whittaker breaks down the events of the last few years and how our society has fundamentally changed in the way we relate to each other. Most importantly, he provides the reader with a path back to a society where people take care of each other, even when there are things we strongly disagree on.

There was very little in this book that I didn't already know, but there were many things in this book that I had once learned and since forgotten. As Whittaker mentions in the book, the things that make us human are in our nature, but we have gotten off track and need to course correct by tapping into those things that are already within us. This book is very approachable and delivers practical advice on how to make that course correction and still keep moving forward as a society. We don't need to go back in many ways, but to move forward, we need to realign how we relate to each other.

One more note to add is that this book relates a lot of these advice lessons to Jesus, but Whittaker does a very good job of saying that this is what he believes, but if you don't believe in the same things as him, that's fine and the lessons still apply. I don't have the exact same religious beliefs as Whittaker and I still found the book to be a fantastic guide on how to be human.

Thank you to NetGalley and WaterBrook & Multnomah for the ARC of this book.

I have been a follower (and fan) of Carlos and a proud member of the Instafamilia since 2020 (courtesy of Sharon Says So) and have been moved by his message often. So when I got the chance to get my hands on an ARC of his new book How To Human, I was very excited!

The message in this book was no different than the brand we see on a daily basis via Instagram from Carlos - be a good human, don’t stand on issues, walk with people - but it broke it down into manageable actions.

I love how much Jesus was in this book, and how He was explained in a way that everyone (not just us Jesus Freaks) can understand and relate to.

This book gave me hope. Hope that if we come together, we can fix it. And hope that people want to.

I was fortunate to be able to read an advance copy of this timely reminder that we all have more in common than we think. I appreciated Carlos’ ideas for focusing on people rather than issues. The seamless integration of Scripture with life stories was inspiring. More than once, I found myself moved to tears at his illustrations of our need to be seen and feel connected to others. Definitely worth rereading.

This book is so perfectly timed with the aftermath of the Pandemic. I wasn't sure I was ready to read a book detailing some of the major events of 2020 but the way that Carlos discusses it, I feel motivated. The past two years have wretch all of us, good and bad. But also humanity is at sake with the great divide from all that happened in the perfect storm and Carlos gives such great nuggets on how to be human, again. How to take away bias and be a friend to all. The best part of this book on how we should draw our influence, not from social media or celebrities but from Jesus. He brings scripture into every chapter to support the ability that we just want to be loved, seen and heard. But most of all, want to be able to do that for others. It's a book I would read again and take more nuggets from it each time. I highly recommend this book to all.

Carlos has outdone himself yet again. From the first few pages he draws you in and you can't put the book down until it's over. This book is written from a Christian perspective, but throughout Carlos keeps reminding that everyone can learn from Jesus, even if you don't believe in Jesus as Christ.
He gives us actionable items to tackle to help free ourselves and those around us from the hopelessness of the world.
Go read this book, tell your friends, gift to your family. It can turn the world right side up.

I was lucky to get an advance copy of @loswhit 's upcoming book that releases in January. It is so good! Carlos has written a book that gives you ways to be a better human, even in spite of our differences. There is a Christian slant to his perspective but he repeatedly points out that the book is for non-Christians as well. He says, "I don't stand on issues, I walk with people." This book showed me where I often fall short in being a good human and also made me hope that others would be Carlos' kind of human toward me. I highly recommend pre-ordering this book (and following him on IG as well).

I'm part of the "Instafamilia" and if you are too, then you might appreciate a tiny bit more of the behind-the-scenes/backstory of what Carlos and his family have walked through between 2020-2022. However, for those who have followed along the entire time, it reads like a recap and is very Covid-focused (it's mentioned in every chapter). I don't think this translates for those who aren't already familiar with Carlos, and I'm not sure it works long-term because of how it's written and the very clear focus on the world right after Covid. That said, the idea of 'how to human' is one we'll need for some time.

As a follower of Carlos on Instagram, I am a part of the "Instafamilia" and I've seen some of the impacts and conversations that this community has had over the past two years. This book does a great job of reminding us and centering us on the key fact that we are all humans even with life gives us opportunities to disagree with each other. The book includes stories that resonate with a large percent of readers, advice, and biblical references to help drive home the point. Ultimately this book will remind you to approach experiences as a human and strive to connect with others when it's not the easiest option.

One of the best accounts I follow on Instagram is Carlos Whittaker’s (@loswhit) so when I saw his new book on Net Galley, I couldn’t click request fast enough. Carlos has been a bright shining light during the pandemic, finding ways to bring people together when we are feeling so divided. His Instagram followers, the Instafamilia, have come together to bless so many people in amazing ways, and that is all thanks to Carlos and his gift for showing people how to be human. Carlos is a man who doesn’t just talk the talk, but he walks the walk. While this book didn’t teach me anything I hadn’t already learned from and about Carlos from social media, I hope this book brings even more people together to do good things in this world. If you aren’t familiar with Carlos Whittaker, please pick up this book and follow him on Instagram. Your life will be all the richer for it.

Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

How to Human by @loswhit

I pre-ordered this book on Audible a few months ago but jumped at the chance to get it on my hands on an advanced copy.

Now, if you follow my personal page, you know I’m a fan. Part of the #instafamilia and have been a follower since 2019. (I think…)
As I read this book, I was reminded of all these stories to got to be a part of financially or experience through Carlos’ lens. And I loved getting to re-feel those feelings of sadness, grief, joy, and laughter. But the thing about this book that surprised me (and I’m sorry that’s the case, Los) is that there is so much Jesus in this book. I know. He loves Jesus. That isn’t an unknown fact. BUT it could have been so easy to write this book with just some good-Jesus-juju with a whole lot of “goodnews movement” vibes. He didn’t. He went full Jesus. And I’m here for it.

The point is to love like Jesus. And while yes there are stories to move you in this book, there are MANY instances where Jesus is the model.

Thanks for putting your heart and words out there for us to read, Carlos. It’s a pleasure to be a part of the team ♥️
