I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. This thriller explored the complex relationships between neighbors. The good, the bad and the ugly. The twists and turns kept me reading. I enjoyed the characters and the story. I highly recommend this thriller for your summer reading list.

Wow! It is an intense, crazy story in a neighborhood that reminded me so much of "The Stepford Wives".
( I just dated myself.)
This is an upper class group of neighbors that have secrets, (OH there are secrets!) and a flawed life that will come to light as time progresses.
This is definitely a page- turner that people will love if you love mystery and thrillers.
Well done!
Thank you to @Netgalley and to @St Martin's Press for this incredible novel and allowing me to read and provide my own review.

This is just the sort of story I love, flawed characters, rumours and gossip with a dose of murder! Alex is sort of the central character. She is a mediator and loves to stick her nose in everyone’s business. Several families are in crisis . However, I did love Lettie, Alex’s daughter who turned out to be really sensible and responsible.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

There is a death in the neighborhood, maybe more than one.. Who did it? Why?

You will find yourself guessing, second guessing and guessing some more as we meet the people in the neighborhood. After all, most of us have secrets, right?

Jamie Day does a great job of introducing us to a myriad of characters in such a way that you will remember who is who without having to flip back and forth. The story was very readable and kept my attention through out.

4/5 stars!

Meadowbrook is an upper middle class area and Alton Road is the crème de la crème of the area. It is a dead end street and the people living on it live and socialize together. The story starts with the annual Memorial Day party…lots of drinking and heaven only knows what else. It also has a “chorus” of other Meadowbrook residents commenting on their speculations about Alton Road, its mysterious deaths and its residents. It sort of makes me think about my neighborhood’s similar postings ( no murders though). Then the novel proceeds to tell the stories of the residents and their interactions. The plot is complicated without being convoluted and the characters grab you from the onset. Thanks to Net Galley and St. Martin’s Press for an ARC for an honest review.

Very good read. Liked the way the story was told from different perspectives. Will recommend. Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for the ARC of this book in return for my honest review. Receiving the book in this manner had no bearing on this review.

The Block Party is a well-written, quick-moving neighborhood mystery. The book starts out with something bad happening at the annual block party but we don’t know what. The story jumps back a year and dives into the neighbors’ lives and all their secrets. It was hard to put down and I read it in a weekend. I loved the neighborhood message board—so true to life!

I received a copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley.

This was one of those novels which opens with the police being called to a death and then goes back a year to describe the circumstances culminating in the crisis. There was a lot happening here, but the author managed to juggle the various families without my ever losing track of who was who and how they related to one another. There was probably enough material for a couple of books here! I liked the voice of Lettie, Alex and Nick's teenage daughter - she seemed authentically young and yet sensible.

***Thanks to NetGalley for providing me a complimentary copy of THE BLOCK PARTY by Jamie Day in exchange for my honest review.***

Reading THE BLOCK PARTY took me back to childhood block parties from the 1970s and made me wonder how well I knew my neighbors.

THE BLOCK PARTY reminds me of the TV series Desperate Housewives. Privileged neighbors with dysfunctional relationships and secrets that between couples, families, individuals and strangers rise to a deadly crescendo during one fateful Memorial Day block party.

Smart writing and a touch of sarcastic humor keeps THE BLOCK PARTY from taking itself too seriously with melodrama in this mystery. Though not specifically humorous, I chuckled to myself a few times turning the pages on my kindle to discover victim(s) and perp(s).

The plot and characters are too complicated to summarize, just know that everyone and everything is more complex than at first glance.

I bet THE BLOCK PARTY will make a fabulous audiobook in the voice of the right narration casting. I can’t wait to see what Jamie Day comes up with next.
