A princess book for those looking for more then a happily ever after. A mystery solving newly crowned princess becomes New Yorks newest Sleuth and leads the readers to a fun time.

A fun story that will keep readers guessing.

This was a fun read and is a good recommendation for kids who want books with plucky characters, a little bit of mystery and a little bit of fantasy. I liked that the main character, Gen, is so tech-savvy -- that will appeal to a lot of kids. I also really liked the foster care rep.

Princess Private Eye is one of my new favorite juvenile series. If you know of an 8-12 year old who enjoys monarchy and some mystery, or Princess Diaries and Nancy Drew, then it’s the series for you. It follows Genevieve (Gen) Sun, an orphan who lives in the system in NYC, until she’s discovered by Roldonian Intelligence to be a princess they believed to be long dead. Gen is brought home to her family, or rather her icy cold Grandmother (the Queen) and her friendly cousin (the Duke). Strange plight begins to strike the land and it’s believed to be tied to a long lasting curse on the land…that might be caused by Gen’s arrival and parents. It’s up to Gen, her incredible tech skills and hacking, and a few of her new friends to get to the bottom of the Curse of the Tainted Throne before her coronation or risk her family, new home, and throne.

This was cute and I think a lot of kids, especially those who like The Princess in Black will like this. I wish it had a less "girly" cover because it is not a "girly" book. Despite that, I had trouble getting into it. I enjoyed it while reading it, but didn't have me coming back for more. That's why it got three stars.

<spoiler> Also, unless I missed it, the author really should have made it clear that under normal circumstances Duke Charlemagne was not in line for the throne because I suspected him immediately. And that at least would have helped me understand why Gen didn't suspect him </spoiler>

Thanks to Netgalley for an egalley. My apologies for not getting to it before publication!

A middle grade cross between Princess Diaries and Spy Kids. Gen has well developed observation skills which serve her well as she transitions from foster kid to royal princess with a grandmother who doesn't seem to want to know her but who needs her to carry on the royal line. Someone is sabotaging her new country and her chance to finally have a family and home, and Gen is determined to figure out who. My only complaint is the cover seems a bit childish for a book that will easily appeal to a wide range of 8-12 year olds.

New York foster kid finds out she is a princess and must solve the mystery to save the kingdom. Gen is smart and resourceful and this book is a fun fast read.

This is a cute book. I enjoyed Gen’s ingenuity and tenacity when it came to solving the case. Also dealing with her whole world being flipped upside down. I felt bad about the queen’s reception of finding out Gen was still alive, yet I am glad that things turn out the way they did. Anyone who loves a rags to royalty story is going to enjoy being swept up into Gen’s world.
Thank you to Disney Publishing Worldwide and Netgalley for allowing me to read an advance copy of this title.

A fairytale with a mysterious twist! Sure to be a fantastic read for young readers in the library looking for a princess who doesn't fit into a box.

A fun and exciting book for fans of The Princess Diaries and Evils Holmes. It's a great novel with a fun and tenacious main character who doesn't let tradition get in the way of her beliefs and her curious mind. I can't wait to share it with my students!

Gen Sun is used to going unnoticed. As a foster kid in the Bronx, she’s been able to strengthen her detective skills and use her unassuming identity to her advantage. That is until she encounters two agents that uncover the truth: Gen is a princess to the little known country of Raldonia. With this new title comes new responsibilities, new expectations, and a new case to solve. It’s up to Gen to solve the mystery and save Raldonia from certain ruin. This middle grade novel from Evelyn Skye brings together an exciting plot and likable characters for an enjoyable read. Gen Sun is a compelling and relatable character that will draw readers into the story. Her journey is a great fit for fans of The Princess Diaries or any mystery lovers looking for a fun twist on the genre. 4.5 stars rounded up.

Princess Private eye is a fun mix of The Princess Diaries and Harriet the Spy. This middle grade novel was a quick and fun read. This would make a great series and a really hope it is.

I was curious about a princess book where she solves mysteries. But I chose it because princesses are popular in my libraries. When she was in New York, I liked the characters that were created. I was sad to leave them behind because when we met the people of her kingdom, they were rather stiff comparatively. I know part of it was that they had to treat her like royalty and were a bit distant. In spite of this, the book was an entertaining. I hope there are more mysteries for her to solve! It wouldn't let me add stars, but it deserves four.

Pretty adorable, reminds me of Harriet the Spy and other middlegrade classics for the inquisitive, especially if you throw in a hearty dose of Meg Cabot's Princess Dairies.

I loved this book! The main character, Gen, is so fun to read. She is written as adventurous, funny, smart and inquisitive. You meet her right as her life is changing. How she handles the change is beautifully written. You will root for her from the start. By the time I was finished with the story I felt like I knew her, like she was a real child I had encountered. The other characters are also interesting, and they help the action move quickly. The dialog is pertinent to the story and enjoyable. I hope they turn this book into a series as her character needs to live on in future adventures.

I received a free eARC of this book. Thank you for the opportunity to read it.

Gen is a foster kid with a strong interest in technology, mysteries, and hacking. These skills have served her well as she's moved from family to family, and as she's tried to find her place in different communities. However, when two agents from the tiny county of Raldonia show up, she faces her biggest challenge yet - proving to a country, and her grandmother, that she can rule.

This book bears a lot of resemblance to "The Princess Diaries", but rather than being a YA Romance (which grows more adult oriented through the series as the main characters age and focusing on the interpersonal relationship between the grandmother and granddaughter, it focuses on Gen and her friend Hill, the son of the castle chef, trying to solve the mystery of what exactly happened in the past-and who is trying to keep Gen from being coronated now. Gen's skills are explained, and while they hit the wish fulfillment level for most kids, are realistic in context. It is nice to see another addition to the growing selection of books facing smart, talented female protagonists, and the action/adventure elements should make this series a compelling read for both boys and girls-and will hopefully help to help kids see that a girl-and especially a princess-on the cover doesn't mean it's not an adventurous, fun book.

It is obvious that this is a set up for a series, and I think this has the potential to be a well loved series for middle grade readers. It is appropriate for school and classroom libraries and would be a beneficial inclusion.
