I was very excited to get my hands on this book early since I have really enjoyed the author’s previous work.

I was not very into this book. The jumping between the two storylines was confusing at times and I was unsure if they were in the same time period. I also didn’t quite connect with Detective Elise Sutton, the main character. She is supposedly brilliant but has basically posted a how-to online of how criminals can get away with murder.

This book kept my attention but will not stay in my memory long.

I really enjoy Wendy Walker as an author and was looking forward to her newest novel, however, I could not get into this book, I believe it was well written and had the potential to have an outstanding storyline, but completely missed the mark. The protagonist was a nervous wreck from the onset, which didn’t make sense given her circumstances and background. I read until chapter eight and called it quits. It would’ve been a great storyline had it gone in another direction.

Pretty good, but it was lacking something. I couldn't truly get immersed in that world and the characters. The idea, however, was very interesting. I'm open to reading more from this author in the future.

In a matter of moments Elise’s world is flipped upside down when she pulls the trigger on an armed man in a department store. This book was a whirlwind of emotions from start to finish. I felt Elise’s guilt, sadness, fear, anxiety, anger and determination to claw her way back to life before the shooting. If you’re looking for a book that keeps you looking over your shoulder this book is for you! Excited to dig into more work by Wendy Walker! I absolutely LOVE Wendy Walker's books.

It pains me to say this book didn't feel like Wendy Walker :(
It was sooo slow, I lost interest after just a few chapters.

I kept reading because it was short - less than 300 pages. But I thought about DNFing many times.

Wendy Walker is a must read author for me, and What Remains was a book that I was very excited to read. Once I picked it up and started reading I just could not stop, and read it in a few short hours on a rainy Sunday afternoon. What a clever book, with plenty of twists and through provoking themes. More than just your run of the mill police procedural, What Remain was a tense, cat and mouse tale that you just have to read.

Elise Sutton is a cold case detective these days. Her decision to stop to buy towels at a department store will change her life forever. When she hears shots fired she knows that she needs to get involved, and she takes the shooters life. She is hailed a hero for saving so many people, but she feels anything but. The guilt she feels for killing a man takes over everything in her life. And then she meets the man who the gun was pointed at and realises that he is not the man he says he is, His obsession with Elise is dangerous, and will make her question everything. She makes many questionable decisions and is a frustrating character. And yet, I could not put this book down.

Do yourself a favour and add this book, and all of Wendy Walkers books, to your TBR. What Remains publishes on June 13th. Thanks so much o Blackstone Publishing for my advanced copy to read.

OH. MY. GOODNESS. Do you ever read a thriller so good that you just can't put it down? But also, you kind of want to make sure to read it in the daylight because it the twists and turns are so damn creepy, but also just so, so darn good. That's THIS book! Detective Elise Sutton has to make a quick, life-altering and lifesaving decision. She knows that's going to come with some feels, but what she doesn't know is it's going to come with a whole heck of a lot more. Elise feels the need to connect with one of the survivors of that fateful day. The only thing is this man has a lot more to his story - A LOT MORE. And he starts to invade Elise's life in ways she could not have anticipated. Again, this one was a ride, and it was so, so well done. I legit couldn't (and didn't) stop reading until I knew how it ended. Thanks to NetGalley for the early look at this June 2023 (must-read) release!

A good read just not one of my favorites by this author. Started off at a slow start , then picked up in the middle and end. Thank you Netgalley and Blackstone Publishing for this arc.

I LOVED “What Remains” by Wendy Walker. I have enjoyed every one of her previous novels but this book was…WOW! A real thriller.

I highly recommend it as a true thriller.

Elise Sutton is a police officer who works cold cases with her partner Rowan and lives a pretty good life with her husband and two young daughters. One day she stops at a big box store for new towels and gets drawn into an active shooter situation that changes her life forever. Lots of tension, twists, turns and uncertainties kept me reading way past my bedtime.

I love Wendy Walker's book and this one was no exception! It took me a minute to catch on to the alternating story lines but ultimately all is weaved together. The characters are complex as is the storyline of a police woman who is forced to kill someone and the nightmare her life descends into following the shooting. I highly recommend this title!

I loved this book. Hearing so many good things about this author I couldnt wait to dive in. Like Elise Sutton , I am drawn to cold cases and I think this is why I enjoyed it so much.

This was my second book by Wendy Walker, the first being Don’t Look For Me. I loved that one (it was terrifying) so was extremely excited to see this one!

I truly feel this book isn’t your typical thriller. The opening scene is set with Detective Elise Sutton walking into a department store to shop. As she is there she hears gunshots and she springs into protector mode. It ends with lives saved but unfortunately one person dead. The events that day were certainly traumatic and life changing for her. Elise can’t seem to get passed why the events happened the way they did.

As she pieces it all together she can’t can’t quite get past one person at the store shooting. He stuck out to her. Why was he there? Who is he? She has a chance run in with him and after that everything changes. He is quite the Elise enthusiast!

Whew! Talk about a get in your head and mess with your mind type of book. You know the players in this book, you just don’t know they why and the cat and mouse game was certainly intense! This book didn’t seem very realistic as Elise certainly made some far fetched decisions however to me it didn’t matter and it worked in this book! If you’re looking for a heart pounding, mind trip grab yourself a copy of this book!

This is my first novel by Wendy Walker and she didn’t disappoint. I found it to be a suspenseful page-turner with decent characters with a fun twist. I read this one pretty quickly, I was very curious where the story was heading and how it would conclude, it did a great job of keeping me intrigued!

Tense thriller for sure. This pulls you in from the beginning and then takes a left turn and becomes a different story than I expected. I had a little trouble with the 2 different stories in the beginning, but it was so good when it all came together. Thank you NetGalley for the advance copy.

I saw a lot of hype around this book. I really wanted to love it, but it was missing something for me. I enjoyed the FMC, but the plot fell a little flat for me. It seemed predictable about halfway through, and I kind of lost interest after that :(

I was skeptical about this book from Wendy Walker because the cover wasn’t my favorite, but this book was definitely for me! Could not read it quickly enough and I loved the journey it took me on.

I have lovingly devoured all of Wendy Walker’s books, so it pains me to say that this was not my favorite. I’ll start off by saying that because I just had knee surgery, my brain was still foggy when I read this, so that could be part of the problem. But I got really confused with the alternating time frames and so many characters. The plot just seemed overly complicated and was frustrating at times. I will say that the ending was definitely better, although I still did not totally understand it. I think I’ll have to give this another read in the future to see if I feel the same.

I received an advanced readers copy of What Remains from NetGalley and what a book it is. Wendy Walker is one of my go to authors and What Remains maybe my favorite of all of her books. The trauma experienced by police officer Elise after shooting and killing a young man who brought a gun into a departing store. Her pain seemed so real and visceral. I wasn’t as invested in the alternative story being told about the investigation of the body parts found in The Kill Room. However, the way the author connected both stories at the end was masterful.
