Yet another Wendy Walker that has me completely sucked in and breathless. If you don’t know why she an auto buy author for me and one of my top favorites, you need to read this one! Holy moly.

Thrillers, for me, need to be anxiety inducing, leaving my heart racing and my stomach in knots. This one definitely did all of that for me. There were so many times throughout reading where there was actually a pit in my stomach because of what happened, especially to Elise and her family. The dual timelines/storylines had me intrigued & kept me guessing, trying to figure out how they would intertwine and how they were connected. There was so much surrounding this book that are some of my worst fears, so for me, some parts were tough to read. But I still pushed through because that’s how strong of a hold Wendy Walker’s books have on you. I couldn’t put it down for a second. 4 ⭐️s

A HUGE thank you to Netgalley, Blackstone Publishing, and Wendy Walker for this e-arc. Check out What Remains on its pub date 6/13!

This book was phenomenal! I loved the way this story was set up with the dueling stories. It kept me on edge and I loved the outcome. Elise’s story is relatable and important especially as a woman in the law enforcement field. This truly was a page turner! I’m such a huge fan of Wendy Walker and this one did not disappoint!

I really enjoyed Wendy Walker’s Don’t Look For Me and this is another good one. Detective Elise Sutton is off duty and shopping in a department store when shots ring out. Elise finds the shooter before he’s able to hurt or kill anyone. She shoots and kills the gunman when he’s about to shoot the male shopper in front of him. She saves this man’s life and is celebrated as a hero for protecting all the innocent shoppers in the store. Elise doesn’t feel like a hero though. She’s traumatized over killing the gunman - something about the whole situation just doesn’t feel right to her. Trying to find answers, Elise connects with Wade Austin, the man she saved. The more she learns about Wade, the more she’s convinced that something else was going on that day in the store. Wade Austin is not who he appeared to be. A terrifying series of events puts Elise and the people closest to her in serious danger. This is a fast, interesting page-turner and I recommend reading it. I look forward to reading more of Wendy Walker’s books. Thanks to #netgalley #blackstonepublishing and #wendywalker for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I love Wendy Walker but this novel wasn't as memorable to me as other's she written. Walker, as always writes her female protagonists (with a ... secret!) as complex and gritty. Honestly, the women she writes always make me stoked that I am a woman too. Thank you for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. This book will be a great addition to our library's popular reading collection.

Wendy Walker is a go to author for me and her latest was an exciting ride! The story opens in a store, where a woman is shopping for towels. There’s a pop, then another. She draws her gun, and goes in search of the shooter, while her partner, waiting outside tells her to stand down - the opening scene was unnerving, uncomfortable and terrifying, in a fight or flight second decision that ends a life and changes hers forever.
I was intrigued by the idea of a guy in the shooting becoming obsessed with her, I liked diving into the psychological reasoning behind the person and their why. However, I didn’t particularly care for the MC, Elise, because I felt like she had a weird obsession with this stalker, acting like she was oddly into a dangerous cat and mouse chase, which made me not sympathize with her story as much as I wanted, not to mention, her husband was not a winner in my books.

Recommend for anyone looking for a fast paced suspense story, this did not disappoint!

I love Wendy Walker! She knocks it out of the park again with this heart racing story. This true thriller is incapsulating, intelligent, and completely intoxicating. I recommend this to ANYONE loving a good thriller.

Elise is a detective who is forced to intervene at a local department store shooting. In addition to the mental trauma that puts on her, she is now being stalked by a man who was at the shooting, "the tall man," Wade Austin. Wade always seems to be one step ahead of the search and Elise and her partner Rowan are determined to find him and help Elise put her life back together. This book has deceit, infidelity, suspense and twists. There were two timelines and storylines in the novel, Elise's storyline and a murder at a hunting cabin in the woods. It was hard to pair these two storylines together and often times I felt like I was reading two separate books. I liked how it came together at the end but unfortunately the confusion I felt as I read overshadowed that a bit. Not my favorite by Wendy Walker but if you like dual storylines, action and a twist this is a novel for you!

Author @wendywalkerauthor is an auto buy author for me and I’ve always enjoyed her books!

𝑊ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑅𝑒𝑚𝑎𝑖𝑛𝑠 is her newest thriller and it was such a roller coaster ride filled with ups & downs and lots of twists.

The story starts out with a horrific event allowing for a super fast pace, and I literally flew through these pages.

The author has a lot of good character development throughout the story, but at the same time there are alot of unlikeable characters. I really despised the main chacters husband & their relationship made me cringe- I was hoping she would be done with him.

Not my favorite by this author but still was a thrilling 4 ⭐️star read! Pub Date is JUNE 13 2023✨

SYNOPSIS: “ She saved his life. Now he‘ll never let her go.

Detective Elise Sutton is drawn to cold cases. Each crime is a puzzle to solve, pulled from the past. Elise looks for cracks in the surface and has become an expert on how murderers slip up and give themselves away. She has dedicated her life to creating a sense of order, at work with her ex-marine partner; at home with her husband and two young daughters; and within, battling her own demons. Elise has everything under control, until one afternoon, when she walks into a department store and is forced to make a terrible choice: to save one life, she will have to take another.

Elise is hailed as a hero, but she doesn’t feel like one. Steeped in guilt, and on a leave of absence from work, she’s numb, even to her husband and daughters, until she connects with Wade Austin, the tall man whose life she saved. But Elise soon realizes that he isn’t who he says he is. In fact, Wade Austin isn’t even his real name. The tall man is a ghost, one who will set off a terrifying game of cat and mouse, threatening Elise and the people she loves most. “

Another page turner for Wendy Walker. Of all of her psychological thrillers, #WhatRemains left me breathless. It definately challenged my puzzle solving. Did Detective Elise Sutton solve a cold case? Did she save his life or is something else going on? The push and pull of this thriller will keep your mind running and I doubt if you'll be able to put it down until the last page. Thank you @NetGalley for the advanced copy and thank you #wendywalker for another captivating, thrilling, page-turning thriller.

WOW - - just WOW! I’m still trying to catch my breath from this incredible read. Don’t Look for Me was one of my all time favorite thrillers so I had a feeling What Remains would be good but it far exceeded all expectations. It will be hard to beat this psychological thriller and this will be at the top of my list of recommendations!

Wendy Walker's "Don't Look For Me" is one of may all time favorite thrillers. I had to read her newest, "What Remains". This one is about Detective Elise Sutton. Elise is shopping when gunfire begins. She has to make the decision to take down the shooter and save the rest of the people in the store. But the story doesn't end there. What happens next can only be described as a game of cat and mouse. This fast paced thriller held my attention from the beginning and I couldn't read it fast enough. Highly recommend this one!

What you see is not necessarily what is real…. This fabulous read had me rethinking every scenario as it played out.
Detective Elise Sutton was such a complex character- solving cold cases is her usual position until she is embedded in this crazy case. Riveting!

“What remains inside of us is uncertain. Unknown. Unfamiliar. Unruly.”

I was so paranoid the whole time I read this book. I felt the panic clawing at my neck, strangling my airways. It is so, so rare that a writer can capture all of my senses and make the hair on the back of my neck stand up. This has easily been one of the deepest, darkest and BEST thrillers I’ve read this year.

Elise, a cold case detective, finds herself in a situation where her only choice is to shoot. Or is it? Struggling with feelings of guilt and looking for validation, she happens upon the one person that could provide the answers she needs.

And so begins a wild ride or mind games and stalking.

There are 2 stories here, the other involves a crime scene, with both too much evidence and too little, that leads the investigators back to Elise. At first, I thought that the two stories were evolving on the same timeline which I found confusing at the mid-point but made more sense thereafter.

This was a good story overall told mostly from Elise’s POV, with a very flat affect that sort of felt right with her trauma and PTSD. Unfortunately, that made the other characters also seem flat and undeveloped.

The passages involving the security team covering Elise’s house were not believable.

Interesting premise, good plot, a little confusing in the telling of the 2 storylines, a little flat and some unfortunately unbelievable moments have me rounding down from 4 to 3 stars.

🔥 BOOK / REVIEW 🔥

It has been a hot minute since I read a book by @wendywalkerauthor, and I was so lucky to be gifted an early #eArc of #whatremains thanks to @blackstonepublishing and @netgalley.

Wendy has a ridiculous way of pulling her readers in quickly and methodically - my heart was racing after the first chapter 🥵 And honestly, I was so anxious reading this book for a ton of reasons, but I don't want to give too much away.

This is really fast paced and I was a huge fan of Elise. I love #policeprocedurals and #psychologicalsuspense, so this one delivered in spades for me. Ps... I had no idea how the 2 story lines were connected for a very long time in this book, but everything comes together well at the end! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wendy Walker’s thriller, What Remains, is one of the most engrossing books I’ve read. The characters are so real, they jump off the pages. The pacing keeps you turning late into the night. And the plot is twisty and deliciously unpredictable. Walker’s writing is beautiful and intense, pulling you in from the beginning. The juxtaposition of Detective Elise Sutton’s chapters, sprinkled with chapters from The Kill Room, sets the reader up for a roller-coaster of an experience and a culmination you won’t see coming. This book is a MUST READ for all fans of mysteries, thrillers and just compelling novels!!

Thank you to NetGalley for the advance reader copy of Wendy Walker's latest thriller. This was a great thriller with lots of twists and turns. Walker's novels are always page turners and easy to read quickly. The antagonist saves a life and ends up wishing she hadn't. Great writing 4.25 stars rounded to 4.
