I read an electronic advanced reader copy version of this book. There is a lot of useful general information about plant species and the appropriate way to plant, fertilize and propagate them. While the title suggests the plants are generally found or are able to be grown in the southeastern region of the US, much of the advice imparted appears to be specific to South Carolina rather than the larger region. It was also unfortunate that the electronic version I received was not divided into chapters that could be easily accessed, although this would not be a problem with a printed edition. There were a few line drawings of plants but not photographs; it would have been useful to have photographs especially of leaves to assist in plant identification and photos of common plant pests/parasites for the same reason.

I accessed a digital review copy of this book from the publisher.
This book is meant to help someone in the South-East region of the US with planting a garden with native plants. It opens with general gardening advice and suggestions. The only state mentioned is South Carolina. There are a variety of plants mentioned, however, not all of them are native plants. Another issue with the plant section is that the information included is not standard.
This book is good for someone who is a beginner in gardening due to the large amount of information at the beginning of the book.

The title of the book indicates that it covers native plants of the southeast region, but in reviewing the content it seems to be focused on South Carolina only. Also, who is the author? We know nothing about him/her - no credentials indicating expertise, or even a last name.

I loved everything about this book. It did such a wonderful job of explaining how to prepare your garden beds, where to add native plants, and the importance of biodiversity and prioritizing native species for the overall environment. I do agree that color photos would be a helpful addition, but beyond that I think this is a perfect book for those looking to begin adding natives to their garden.
As an intermediate gardener who already knows quite a bit about natives, I still learned a lot in this book and will be putting its advice into practice!

This book is very well done and has wonderful suggestions fir creating a beautiful garden with plants native to your region. I wish it had color photos although I recognize many plants in the book some I haven’t seen. The book does have drawings but pictures of the live plant would be more useful for me personally to clearly identify the plants. But otherwise no complaints and I feel it is an excellent resource for those looking for ideas for plants in the South-East region.
