This fun nonfiction book for the younger set tells how Charles Darwin spent 40 years studying the lowly earthworm. His various experiments led him to discover how they function despite the inability to see and hear, but most importantly, he learned how they contribute to the quality of the soil we need to produce food.

Fun fact: Worms add an inch of poop to the soil every five years.

Another great book that makes learning fun, and a must for libraries and schools everywhere!

Polly Owen has made worms cool with Darwin’s Super-Pooping Worm Spectacular.
Charles Darwin is known for contributing to the understanding of evolutionary biology, with his widely known “Origin of Species” book. This a great way to introduce the methodical way Darwin would conduct his experiments. For young children, this is exhibited in this very colorful, funny, witty, story by Polly Owen.

Darwin’s Super-Pooping Worm Spectacular tells a very intriguing story. It shares how Darwin was invested in finding the hidden talent of worms. He conducted experiments that lead him to find out some very interesting facts about worms that were unknown at the time. The experiments, Polly Owen shares, conducted by Darwin ranged from playing very loud music to turning lights on and off. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to impress his other Scientist friends.

I loved the very studious worm in this book. It shared a worm point of view of Darwin’s experiments. The importance of worms is so meaningful and we know this because of Darwin. They were needed back then and are still important to why there are animals and plants still on Earth. Something that the author touches upon in this book. The illustrations are so colorful and complement the story perfectly created by Gwen Millward.

Perfect for every child. From the Science fan to children who just want to read a fun book. It’s going to be a favorite! Children will never look at worms the same way after they read this book.

Thanks to Netgalley and Quarto for the ARC of this!

What an interesting look at a lesser known fascination of Charles Darwin, I had no idea he studied worms! This helped show my kids how important even small and “gross” creatures can be to the Earth. I liked the illustrations!

A book that adds to the knowledge in the young mind about Charles Darwin – the fact that he apparently spent decades working with and on earthworms, and worked out that they had neither ears nor eyes, yet could still sense noise and vibrations and light, all through their skin. But it was much later, when he gets somewhere close to the title of this volume, that he gets what he needs from them and can prove their necessity and brilliance to the rest of us. According to this he tried and tried to get society and other scientists interested in them, before it all hit paydirt, and the resulting book was more immediately successful than "On the Origin of Species". This is less successful than either – it is a bit clumsy in having the narrator, a voice-over from worms and a third thread to the text all on the same page, but the visual appeal will get it through, and the quirk of talking about animal dung for serious, scientific reasons will appeal to the cheeky young reader. Not the most essential book in the world, but a fresh bit of information at least.

Thank you netgalley for this ARC. I am leaving an 100% honest review.

I found this book quite entertained as well as educational. The little worm speech bubbles brought a smile to my face and the Wormie facts really were interesting.

I could definitely use this book as a tie in with composting.

This was an informative book and I do love some fun science facts. But I was hoping it would work for a younger audience. (That’s on me.) I think you’d have to be 4th grade or older to truly appreciate this book. It had a lot of advanced vocabulary and was pretty long.

Also, while this is a great story, there are so so many forgotten minority and female scientists, I would much rather read a book celebrating them than a book about a scientist I’ve known since I was small.

I quite liked this book......& really learned quite a bit, a lot....actually, especially considering it's only about 32 pgs long! This is a book about Charles Darwin's study of worms & the illustrations are cute, colorful, & informative in their own way! The kid friendly text/story is fun to read.....I bet kids will really enjoy this! What a fun way to learn! I highly recommend this to all parents & librarians!

This was super cute and my 3rd grader loved it and found it hilarious. (It has that universal kid appeal of talking about poop.) I can't believe I hadn't heard of Darwin's obsession with worms before.

The story was engaging and told with maximum humor. The illustrations were cute and humorous and matched the text perfectly. They also added quite a bit to the story.

I would definitely recommend this to kids in the 6-12 range who are interested in science.

I thought that this was a really good book and what a great way to learn more about Charles Darwin!

It was well laid out and it had some great images to bring the book to life.

I liked the way that the book was presented and the mix with some of the facts being shared by the worms (it may sound strange but it works believe me!) and it was great to learn more about them as we read the book. I read it with my daughter.

It is 5 stars from me for this one, a great insight in to Darwin and his research and experiments – very highly recommended and I love the title of the book and the cover!

Fun and easy to digest (see what I did there) educational book about the importance of worms and studies Charles Darwin conducted on them. It's a quick but highly entertaining read which covers the topic in an easy to comprehend language. I am an adult but I did not know anything about worms. Now I do and honestly, it was a blast to get to know about them through this book!

Made me think of all the times I was a child, digging up worms in the rain and showing them to my mom :)

The title will grab any students attention! The illustrations were humorous and intriguing. I thoroughly enjoyed reading through this book and understanding Darwin’s, the worms, and other characters POV. A great read aloud to introduce students to the scientific method.

From the title page this book had me hooked. The title and illustrations (omg, the cute little worms!) had me before I even read a word of the actual book. The story is informative and well written. I could see myself buying this for one of my little cousins. An especially great book for kids who love animals and science (and talking about poop)! When I was a kid, I would have loved this book for the illustrations. Every picture tells a story of its own, with lots of funny little details. My favorite example of this is an illustration of worm tunnels where two worms are sitting down for some tea. I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

As an avid earthworm lover myself, I was drawn to this title immediately. I had no idea Darwin shared a fascination with the little guys. This book was entertaining, intriguing and full of facts that I did not know about the beloved creatures.

Charles Darwin is well known for his study of how evolution happens, but he studied many other aspects of the natural world, including worms! This book is sure to be enjoyed by many young students. It's a great introduction to Darwin and his childlike curiosity. It also explains to how important worms are. Darwin's Super-Pooping Worm Spectacular is filled with fun illustrations. It chronicles the research that Darwin did to figure out if worms can see or hear, how they navigate their world, and even the use of Stonehenge to figure out how much worms poop. This is children's science nonfiction at its finest. Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy in return for my honest review.

A wonderful children's book about Darwin and his search for the super power found in worms. A bit of history I did not know about and a love tribute to how important worms are in our life. Wonderfully written and illustrated, informative and a quick read, it is super engaging and I learned things I did not know. Mind you, I never disliked worms, but I like them even more now. Go, worms, go.
