This book is a great addition to my many books about herbs. I love to read these books through the first time and then keep them as reference and recipe books afterwards. This book is thorough and explains things well even to a beginner.

NetGalley ARC Review

Herbal, recipe books are some of my absolute favorite books, and this one was another I have to add to my shelf in physical form. I look forward to grabbing a copy asap.

In-depth introduction as well as a great resource for the well-versed green witch. My favorite part is that each of the herbs has multiple suggestions and recipes for use including teas, soups, and cremes. Also a fan of the general guidelines to help in creating your own recipes.
I definitely recommend this for Green Witches and anyone looking for more information on herbs/plants and their practical magical use.

Just what I needed as I embark on planting my own herbs and drying them. I loved the profiles on the herbs and I cant wait to try the recipes once my herbs are ready.

The Hearth Witch's Garden Herbal has an excellent A - Z section full of wonderful plants and herbs, including detailed info about their properties, as well as multiple recipes tailored to each one. This would be great to have as a hard copy, so that it could be referenced each growing season, and to make favorite recipes easy to put your fingers on. Part one includes garden spells such as ivy protection and the acorn charm. I particularly look forward to trying the nasturtium aphid treatment and horsetail spray for downy mildew. It even includes a section on companion planting.

An incredibly comprehensive guide to the modern witch's garden.

Anna Franklin has impressed me tremendously. This is the first green witch guide I have found that not only covers plants and their meanings, but it discusses the language of flowers, rules of the garden, and practical recipes.

While teas, anointing oils, and poultices are neat- but not always feasible. In an urban setting my access to non-traditional ingredients and accessories are limited by location and weather making many of these resources unsustainable. In a refreshing change of pace, The Hearth Witch's Garden Herbal has a slew of information (and recipes) using common plants and herbs that are intuitive and I cannot wait to try!

While any witch may be able to pick and choose their useful sections, I guarantee that this book will have something for every green witch, novice or otherwise. A true delight that I look forward to revisiting time and time again.

[Thank you to NetGalley and Llewellyn Publications for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.]

This book gives good general information on the main herbs used for healing across cultures. The author also draws on pagan influences in regards to herbal healing.

I accessed a digital review copy of this book from the publisher.
This book covers many topics, from basic gardening to plants and their magical elements. The gardening section covers companion planting and includes a list of plants and companion plants that improve their health, along with the reasons why. There is a section for natural pesticides included. The section on the individual plants goes over the plant, its magical properties, and a selection of recipes. I found the first half of the book very useful and will need to do more research to see how well the second half was done. Overall, I found the book to be good and plan to read it again.

This comprehensive guide extends well beyond what to grow a witch's garden!
The author includes helpful tips, exciting rituals, and enough material to fill even a knowledgeable witch with wisdom! I particularly appreciated the interaction between environmentalism (why to install a rain barrel) and tactical gardening (how and why to try companion planting) and witchy goodness (spirits in your garden).
I particularly enjoyed Part 2: The A - Z Herbal. For each plant (e.g., aloe vera to violet), the chapter includes an overview, a list of uses (magical, cosmetic, culinary, and medicinal), and practical recipes.
The wide range of material included in this book ensures that everyone, from a new witch to a seasoned crone, would find inspiration in its pages.

This book was a lovely introduction to herbalism along with easy ways to incorporate herbs into your life. I especially appreciated the recipes that were included, and that a variety of uses or applications were discussed as well. Overall I think this would make a great addition to anyone's home shelf to quickly reference at any time.

This is such a fantastic reference for someone looking to expand their garden magic. It has a lot of suggestions for how to take care of your garden, what to do in the different seasons, moon gardening, and how to use the different plants that you gather from your garden. My favorite aspect is that each of the herbs has about 4 different suggestions/recipes on how to use them ranging from teas and wines, to soups and cremes. There are also some general guidelines to help you to create your own concoctions. Overall, I would definitely recommend this for Hearth and Green Witches. Or anyone just looking for more information on their plants and wanting recommendations for how to use them in a practical way.

Thank you to Netgalley and Llewellyn for providing me with an eARC of this book, however, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was a very informative book. I like how it broke everything down to different sections. Part 2 when they broke down the herbs for the magical properties and uses for daily life. I learned a lot and will be referencing this book.

A Herbal Gardener's Bible

In honoring Mother Earth, the provides provides the following acknowledgement:
"MotherEarth, you are life, you are abundance, You produce all in Nature, you produced me, your child. You are first in all things, you surround me; You are beneath my feet. You give me the food I eat, the water I drink. From you comes all I see, all that breathes."

Additionally, in giving libation, the author suggest that we should pour wine on the earth ans say:
"Mother Earth, I give thanks for this place, For the sun and the wind, the rain and the land. Mother Earth, I give thanks for all that lives here, The winged creatures, the crawling creatures, The flying creatures, and the four-legged creatures. Mother Earth, I give thanks for all that grows here. Blessed be."

I feel that this is remarkable for all things have life and when we take from the earth, we should honor it and asked for its blessing in receiving good from what we take.

I love the fact that the author provides recipes for gardening care and moon gardening. This book is a hearth Witch's bible, for it has information not only on caring for and maintaining your garden, but also on the various insect and animals that may enter your garden and their advantages and disadvantages in terms of whether they are beneficial to your garden.

She discusses numerous garden rituals, spells, and blessings that one may perform throughout the gardening season. There are some many herbs, flowers, and plants of all sorts discussed in terms of their medicinal and magical uses.

This is a must have book, and I highly recommend it.

As always, Anna Franklin knows how to research and write a book that is an ultimate tool for herb-crafting and living with the land. I love how she always writes her books--this one included--with such clarity and ease, giving the reader an experience. Her writing inspires me and this book is a perfect addition to her other pieces.

This is a nice offering for green witchery. I'd like to see Hearth Witchcraft books go into more detail about the home fires and the importance of hearth while including the kitchen and garden areas of the green witch craft. Of course with any Hearth Witchcraft book, I'd also expect a healthy exploration of Hestia and related house deities, house elves, etc., as well as the Vestals who tended to temple fires and even to modern cinema like the scene is Krampus where the grandmother insists they must keep the fire burning.

I would have liked to see illustrations or photos or the plants/herbs.

That said, I really liked the sections on working with the moon, herbals, charms, remedies, and even planting different plants and herbs together.

But my favorite part of the book was the garden omens and what seeing various critters mean when you see them.
