Thank you to @netgalley, @fizzziatrist, and @dreamscape_media for the free audiobook. As always, opinions are completely my own!

This one truly hooked me from the first couple minutes and on! I loved the creepy, wintery setting, and the plot concept was a ton of fun. It’s hard for me to discuss too much without giving things away but I was genuinely shocked by the plot twist and did not see it coming at all! The ending wasn’t my favorite type of ending for a thriller but I somehow still loved it. If you end up reading it, message me so we can discuss in more depth!

Content Rating: Ages 14+ there is violence and murder and some romance but nothing was super graphic.

Synopsis:

Newlyweds Tricia and Ethan are searching for the house of their dreams.

But when they visit the remote manor that once belonged to Dr. Adrienne Hale, a renowned psychiatrist who vanished without a trace four years earlier, a violent winter storm traps them at the estate… with no chance of escape until the blizzard comes to an end.

In search of a book to keep her entertained until the snow abates, Tricia happens upon a secret room. One that contains audio transcripts from every single patient Dr. Hale has ever interviewed. As Tricia listens to the cassette tapes, she learns about the terrifying chain of events leading up to Dr. Hale’s mysterious disappearance.

Tricia plays the tapes one by one, late into the night. With each one, another shocking piece of the puzzle falls into place, and Dr. Adrienne Hale’s web of lies slowly unravels.

And then Tricia reaches the final cassette.

The one that reveals the entire horrifying truth.

"My mother always said the only way two people can keep a secret is if one of them was dead."

My mind is blown! From the first chapters of Never Lie by sneaky creative author Freida McFadden, I was sure I had it all figured out; who the murderer was, why they did it, and how it was done. I will tell you I was 100 percent wrong.

Tricia and Ethan are house hunting and their last stop is an abandoned mansion in the middle of nowhere. It's snowing when they get there, the real estate agent doesn't show up and they realize it's the home of famous psychiatrist author Dr. Adrienne Hale who disappeared and was thought killed by her whereabouts unknown boyfriend.

The snow becomes a blizzard and they are trapped in the house. As they prepare for a creepy restless night where there are clues someone was or is in the house like footprints in the snow, a glass with water, and a light upstairs that is now gone, Tricia makes a discovery.

I laughed so hard with the wink the writer gives her listeners when Tricia tries to remove The Shining by Stephen King from a bookshelf and finds a hidden room. Inside are tapes of Dr. Hale's sessions with patients. Tricia puts them in the tape recorder and soon we hear from the last people to visit the mansion. We also get chapters of the doctor herself telling us the story behind these sessions...and soon a murder is plotted but not the one you think or by the one you are sure did it.

I am in awe of narrator Leslie Howard who kept certain tones to her performance so as not to give away what was really going on until the end. As a lover of psychological thrillers I will not lie; Never Lie, truthfully, was insane, the red herrings we're perfectly planted and I fell for it all with absolute glee.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from Dreamscape Media via #NetGalley for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

This is an easy review to write because the book was SO GOOD! The audio was exceptional! As for the story- wow! I did predict one big twist but it didn’t take away from the excitement at all. Never Lie is probably my new favorite by Frieda! It was suspenseful, creepy, easy to follow, and had lots of twists and turns. I loved the internal dialogue by the psychiatrist in the book. That was easily my favorite part of the story. The epilogue was definitely a plus. A follow up of this one would be so fun!!

Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC!

Never Lie by Freida McFadden was a creepy and suspenseful psychological thriller. It kept my interest for the most part but parts of it were so over the top and almost predictable. I also never developed a real connection with any of the characters and some of the things certain characters did or said made me roll my eyes more often than I would have liked to admit. The chapters were rather short and I did listen to the audiobook in its entirety. I should have figured out the ending way before I did. It was so obvious once I did figure it out. Overall, I didn’t hate it but it was clearly not one of my favorites by Freida McFadden. The audiobook was narrated by Leslie Howard. Sometimes it was hard to distinguish between the different characters but overall the performance was good.

Tricia and Evan were still in the honeymoon phase of their marriage. They recently started to look for homes in Westchester County so they could move out of their tiny apartment in New York City. Their real estate agent had recently sent them information about a new listing. Tricia and Evan had driven Evan’s BMW up to the showing. On the way, it began to snow and the intensity of the snow started to pick up rather quickly as they got closer to the house they were going to view. Tricia thought that Evan had passed the street they were looking for a ways back but Evan was insistent that he knew just where it was. I thought that was strange since supposedly he had never been to the house before. His instincts were correct, though. The only problem was that snowstorms and front wheel BMW’s don’t do well together. They had to leave the BMW at the bottom of the driveway and the couple trudged through the snow. Of course, Tricia was wearing expensive shoes not designed to wear in the snow so Evan carried Tricia on his back to the front door. Tricia noticed an upstairs light on in the house but also noticed that the rest of the house was dark. Why would their real estate agent leave a light on upstairs but not turn on any lights downstairs? By the time Evan and Tricia got to the front door the light was off. Did Tricia just imagine it? There was no sign of their real estate agent. Finding a hidden key to the front door, the couple let themselves into the empty house. When they tried to call their real estate agent to see if she was on her way they discovered that they had no cell service. Tricia and Evan soon discovered that they were in Dr. Adrienne Hale’s home. Dr. Hale had been a prominent practicing psychiatrist who had just disappeared a little over four years ago. There had been a major investigation about her disappearance. The police believed that her boyfriend had killed her and had disposed of her body somewhere but her body had never been found. Who would enter an empty house without confirmation from the real estate agent that it was permitted? Why didn’t the couple just turn around and find a place where they had cell service to contact their agent and find out where she was?

Tricia and Evan decided to stay in the house until the snow let up. They explored the house. Evan was sure this was the house for them. It was perfect! Tricia wasn’t so sure. Evan made himself right at home. He discovered fresh cold cuts and other items in the fridge and proceeded to make lunch for both Tricia and himself. This made Tricia even more nervous that someone else was in the house with them. Evan even took a shower and helped himself to clothes that he found in the master bedroom. While Evan showered, Tricia found a bookcase by the staircase. She decided to take one of the books to read. To her surprise, the bookcase moved and revealed a hidden room with recorded tapes of all Dr. Hale’s sessions with her patients. Tricia could not resist. She went to Dr. Hale’s office and over the course of the next few days and nights, she listened to all the tapes. More evidence started to materialize that made Tricia even more convinced that her and Evan were not alone in the house. Were her suspicions correct? What would she learn from the tapes?

Never Lie by Freida McFadden was told from different points of view. Tricia represented the “now” and Dr. Adrienne Hale represented the “ before”. There were many inconsistencies throughout the book. It left me scratching my head and wondering. The ending was quite unexpected and yet based on the rest of the book, it fit. My feelings about this book were in the middle. It was not my favorite but I did not hate it entirely. Some parts just bothered me a lot. I look forward to reading her next book.

Tricia and Ethan are newlyweds looking for their dream home. They are on their way to view a gorgeous home when a blizzard hits. Now they are forced to stay at the house where a woman was potentially murdered and disappeared from. Dr Adrienne Hale disappeared four years ago under mysterious circumstances. While being snowed in Tricia comes across Dr Hale's audiotapes from therapy sessions with her patients. Soon she begins to suspect that her and Ethan aren't alone in the house. What happened to Dr Hale?

I wanted to like this more. I'm giving 3 stars because I really liked that narrator in this audiobook. I'm a fan of a quick thriller with a crazy twist but this twist made no sense. The main character Tricia I found to be very unlikeable. I didn't even like Dr Hale. I felt the whole premise of the book was overexaggerated and overdone. This novel just did not hit it for me but I will check out Freida McFadden's other works since I have heard great things.

I listened to the audio version of this book, and really enjoyed it along with the narrator. “Never Lie” by Freida McFadden is a very addictive page turner. It's fast paced with wild, with twists and turns. McFadden’s writing style reminds me a bit of Kiersten Modglin, another guilty pleasure thriller writer. Big, bold and wild stories that you can’t put down.

In “Never Lie” Adrienne Hale a renowned psychiatrist has vanished without a trace. Meanwhile, lost in a blizzard, newlyweds Tricia and Ethan end up stranded in her isolated mansion until the storm lets up. While searching for a book to kill time, Tricia stumbles upon a secret room. Crazy ensues! I had no idea who to trust or believe and my guesses were wrong every time! This is such a fun read, and a wild ride.

But when they visit the remote manor that once belonged to Dr. Adrienne Hale, a renowned psychiatrist who vanished without a trace four years earlier, a violent winter storm traps them at the estate… with no chance of escape until the blizzard comes to an end."

Told from alternating point of views in the past and present, this is a quick and entertaining read. In present day Tricia is exploring the remote manor, finding a secret room that was full of Dr. Hale's taped therapy sessions. As Tricia listens to the different sessions, the story weaves the past point of view of Dr. Hale. Jumping between past and present voices, with many twists and turns, this is a very engaging mystery/thriller. I did not see the ending twist coming, but it fit perfectly with the story.
Freida McFadden did an excellent job building this story in a way that makes the reader want to keep turning the page. While not the most shocking or out of the box mystery/thriller, it is a solid read that delivers exactly what it promises.

This book threw me for a loop. I thought Ethan was the killer of Dr. Hale however one never knows til the end what really happened. Where do Luke and Tricia fall into play and do they know each other? Does one really know our companions or their dirty deeds? Read this book and see if you can put it down. I could not and look forward to reading all Freida's other books. This one kept me reading and to be honest I never thought some of the people were really where and who they ended up being. Awesome and a definite read.

5 STAR READ! I LOVE THIS BOOK! Ok, sorry for the all caps, but everyone has been telling me to read Frieda's books and I can't believe this was my first one. I loved this book so much that I plan to read everything she has written moving forward!

"Never Lie," is about a married couple searching for the perfect home. One day, on their house hunt, they get trapped in a horrible blizzard and have to sleep in the home they were set to tour. This is not just a home though, it is a secluded mansion. As the couple enter the home, they realize it is the home of Dr. Adrienne Hale, a famous psychiatrist who vanished, and is feared murdered. With no choice to leave, the couple must stay and deal with some creepy things that happen in the house.

This book is dark, twisty, and has the best unreliable narrator! I love every second of it and truly could not stop listening to it. The narrator for the audio book nailed her performance, and I guessed the ending wrong more than one time! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC copy of this book for an honest review.

Newlyweds Tricia and Ethan get stuck in a blizzard on their way to meet a realtor at a house showing. Luckily, they are within walking distance of the house and find the spare key outside. Although the house is abandoned and formerly belonged to a psychiatrist who went missing, Tricia and Ethan settle in. While looking for a book to read, Tricia finds a hidden room that contains cassette tapes for all of Dr. Adrienne Hale’s patients. The more she listens, the more shocking truth comes out about Dr. Hale’s disappearance.

I listened to an audio of this in one day because I couldn’t stop listening! In true Freida style, you are drawn into the story quickly. Dual timelines (set in the past and present) help readers discover what happened to Dr. Hale as Tricia uncovers the truth for herself. It was exciting and there were several twists I did not see coming. I had a bit of an idea of where I thought the story was headed, but truly had no idea what I was in store for (which I love!)

I thought I had you figured out on this one Ms. McFadden. I was wrong. This was a captivating audiobook that pushed me to continue to clean and unpack our new house because I was so invested in the outcome. I loved the dual timeline, and it was very easy to follow. I loved how atmospheric the house was and I felt like I was there with them!

The plot and writing hooked me writing away. Unfortunately, the narrator was very mismatched for this type of story. She sounded so perky and happy. Thriller narrators should be more mysterious and suspenseful . I just couldn’t get past the narrator. She sounded like she was reading a YA romance. I don’t think somebody who reads a lot of thrillers would find this one entertaining and challenging. I don’t go into Thrillers expecting something realistic. They are just fun, escape reads. However, this one ended so over the top and unbelievable, it definitely earned an eye-roll. Rounded up from 2 1/2 stars to 3, because it did keep my interest until the end. Wish it hadn’t fell flat.

Never Lie is one of those books where you think you have it all figured out, but then the rug gets pulled out from under you. As you fall, you realize that you actually don't know anything and are left shocked by the plot's twists and turns. Finding a book like this one is rare and the feeling of being surprised never gets old. McFadden did an amazing job with this title. She is obviously a very talented writer and I look forward to reading more of her work in the future. If you are a thriller fan, Never Lie is a must-read.

I really enjoyed this book! In the beginning, I thought I knew how it was going to end but I was wrong :). It kept me guessing and the writing was good. I would definitely read another by this author!

Well, well, well! Another fantastic book by the great Frieda! I thought I had this figured out by chapter 8 but in true Frieda form I was so very wrong. Never saw this ending coming. If you want a truly thriller and page turner grab this book.

Never Lie by Freida McFadden and Narrated by Leslie Howard was my favorite book of 2022. It was so “Gone Girl”. There was never a dull moment or a boring character. The ending had twists I never saw coming. The love story was engaging. I highly recommend reading this book. You won’t be able to put it down.
This is the first book I have read by Freida. I have added all of her books to my “To Read” shelf on Goodreads.
The narrator, Leslie Howard is my new favorite narrator. I don’t think I would have enjoyed it as much if I read it. She did an excellent job changing her voice for each character.

I’m so excited to have recently discovered Ms. McFadden. The few books I’ve read are exceptionally twisted and she has many more that I’ve added to my TBR list. She’s amazing at fabricating tangled psychological thrillers!

A newlywed couple drives through a snowstorm to look at a house in a remote location. Most people would check the weather when driving a BMW way out to the boondocks, but not them! When the agent doesn’t show up, they find a way into the house to get out of what has become a blizzard. Ethan immediately falls in love with the beautiful, enormous house but Tricia thinks it’s creepy. The house has been empty for a few years and is still filled with the previous owner’s belongings. Everything suggests she left the house, intending to return. After some snooping, they find the house was owned by a famous psychiatrist—Dr. Hale—that went missing years earlier. And Tricia found a secret room where Dr. Hale stashed audio tapes of all of her client sessions. Tricia starts listening to them and can’t stop until she unravels some of the mysteries surrounding the house and the previous owner.

My last two reads were intense so this was fun and light in comparison.

“The only way to keep a secret is if one of you is dead”.

Just when I had it all figured out…BAM! A couple twists and it left me reeling. Like who really goes home buying in a blizzard and gets stranded at that said home? The back and forth between the past and present was easy to follow and had me at the edge of my seat. Great narration too

hank you @netgalley for the ALC of Never Lie. Frieda McFadden is one of my go to authors if I want a thriller that is going to keep me listening/reading. Just like her others. When you think you know what is going on, she throws in a twist. This book was good, but not one of my favorites. It was a little repetitive with details that she wanted you to pick up on and was too obvious on the details of the characters that she wants you to pick up on. I liked the big twist, but it didn’t match the information in the beginning of the book.

Tricia and her new husband Ethan are looking looking to buy a house. They are viewing the house of a missing psychiatrist and get stuck there overnight in a snow storm. When unexplained events in the house start happening, they realize they might not be alone.

A psychological thriller that started slow and I was convinced I knew where it was headed so I didn’t need to invest much attention to listening to….until the whole story turned around and not once but twice.
I did get annoyed at one of the main characters, Trish, and her constant waffling made me crazy but her character did redeem herself later in the book. There were other odd incidents that were too pat in the plot but when the narrative finally hooked me, I ignored them.
The setting has Trish and her husband looking at a potential home to purchase. It’s remote and they arrive in a snowstorm that turns into a blizzard and are stranded. But this mansion, on the market for a song, has a history it is hiding…literally and figuratively. The previous owner, a therapist, suddenly disappeared several years earlier and the house has remaining unchanged. The storyline flips back in time and follows this brilliant psychiatrist, her life and patients.
While stranded in the house doors creak, paintings move, lights appear, and secrets long thought hidden are exposed. Why is there food in the refrigerator of an empty house? Is there someone hiding that is the cause of all this spookiness? And does everybody have a murder in their past?
A tale that has new twist and connection in every chapter.
