Newlyweds Ethan and Tricia are looking for the perfect home to start a family in. They are so invested in the search that they even agree to go to a showing of an out of the way manor house in bad weather. The bad weather goes from snow to blizzard and the two barely make halfway up the road to the house when the snow becomes too much for their car.

When they find a key under the mat and let themselves in, they realize that it is the home of a famous psychiatrist and author Adrienne Hale, who went missing shortly after the publication of her last book.

An empty house, a mysterious disappearance and a couple snowed in. The stage is set for Frieda to do what she does best and that is lay a foundation and then lay on twist after twist after twist.

While the reader will have to believe in the power of coincidence and suspend believe quite a bit, this is a fast and entertaining read.

My Thoughts:
This one definitely gave the creepy vibes with the main characters being stuck in the middle of a snowstorm in a empty home (or is it..??) that used to belong to a famous therapist that went missing several years prior.

This house gives all the creepy vibes from lights on that don’t make sense, noises, hidden rooms filled with tape recordings of previous patient therepy sessions, and so much more.

I was spending the majority of the book thinking I had it all figured out, to get to the final 15% percent and have a twist that I did not see coming.. at all… that made me really love this one! It was just so well done and kept me in suspense the whole time.

I also loved the cut scenes of listening to the therapy sessions as they tie into the ending and twist and made the suspense so much higher.

Thank you NetGalley, Dreamscape Media, and Hollywood Upstairs Press for the ARC audiobook of this one in exchange for my honest thoughts!

Love love loved! One of the best books I’ve read all year

I thought I had it all figured out, and then I found out the final twist. I am still thinking about it. I highly recommend this book!

I have read/listened to 3 of Freida McFadden’s books and this is my favorite so far. I enjoyed the setting and the characters, while somewhat annoying at times, were compelling enough to continue listening. The twists and turns were fascinating. I thought I had a few figured out but I was wrong on almost all of them. Obviously, as in most thrillers, there are some things that you need to just accept as implausible as they are – who is going to show a house before a blizzard?!!! – but once you let that go, this is a very entertaining book that kept me wanting to know what was going to happen next.

Narration was well done, no issues

Well this was quite the psychological thriller! I really enjoyed the storyline - the dual timeline was great, multiple narrators - no complaints really!

It’s relatively predictable with plenty of twists and turns going into it. We follow a young couple on their way to see a house they’re looking to buy when they end up snowed into said house thanks to a blizzard that hit while they were on their way there. Once there, they realize they’ll be staying at least the night so they get comfortable and decide to check out the house - actually, it’s practically a mansion, hidden rooms and all.

As one night turns to two, they start finding all kinds of things - hidden rooms, hidden tapes….so many mysteries to solve. With some chapters being written from the POV of the previous homeowner, we have separate mysteries unfolding simultaneously that allow us to watch the story unfold from two directions and meet in the middle.

Thanks to NetGalley, I got to enjoy the audiobook version and it was good. The narrator did a great job tackling the multiple POV and shared perfect interpretations of the characters.

This book had me hooked from the beginning! At times the book was predictable, but that did not stop me from being on the edge of my seat throughout. This was a quick and gripping thriller that I really enjoyed and want to read another book from Freida McFadden.

I want to thank the publishers and Netgalley for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook for a honest review.

I usually try my best to find something I like in every book so I don't feel like I'm completely trashing it but I really just didn't like any of this book.

Like other reviews have mentioned, there are way to many phrase such as " This house is so dusty" or "Everything was covered in a thick layer of dust" and "I barely knew my husband" or "It was a reminder that I have only known my husband for such a short time"

After the first couple times we as the reader get that its a dusty house, and that she barely knows her husband.

The rest of this review will contain spoilers so please proceed carefully....

I honestly felt like that was barely any shock value to this thriller. I figured out who Trisha was pretty early on, and while the author wanted the reader to connect Ethan and EJ, after a bit of time it was pretty obvious they were the same person.

It also wasn't shocking that Adriene did what she did. The author should her unraveling to soon so it was easy to figure out she would eventually do something crazy.

Overall I was not impressed, and if it wasn't so short, and an audiobook it would have been a DNF for me. There is no way that I would have read this physically.

When Tricia and her husband are snowed in while viewing their dream home they think it’s the perfect opportunity for a trial run of what might become their forever home. Soon theu discover that the former owner is a famous author and psychiatrist who went missing years ago. After Tricia discovers a secret room filled with the doctors taped sessions, she starts listening to them and begins to uncover what happened to the doctor. After Tricia starts hearing strange noises and notices items that have been moved she starts to wonder if they are actually alone in the house.
If you like a novel with crazy twists, this one is for you! McFadden’s writing hooked me in right away by as the novel continued I thought I had it all figured out. I was actually really disappointed thinking the ending was going to be predictable, but the the twist hit! This thriller is dark and twisty and totally unpredictable! This was my introduction to Freda McFadden’s work and I will definitely be reading more!

The key to a great thriller is a twist that the reader did not see coming, and “Never Lie” provided that! The principal action in the book takes place over a short span of time (roughly 2 days) with flashbacks that piece together the story. I especially liked the fact that the house—in which almost all of the scenes take place—plays a large role. In the first half of the book I felt as if the characters were a bit shallow and needed more development, but as the twist unfolded I understand the reasons for their construction. Ultimately, this was a very enjoyable audiobook. I have not read anything by Freida McFadden before, but I will definitely check out books by her in the future. Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this audiobook!

Reading Between the Wines book review #98/135 for 2022:
Rating: 4 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷
Book 🎧: Never Lie
Author: Freida McFadden
Genre: Mystery & Thrillers
RELEASED on November 8, 2022!!!

Sipping thoughts: Freida did it again! I loved the premise and right from the first chapter I was pulled in. The story is told from 2 POV’s and from a past and present timeline. Both types of storytelling are my favorite way to read a story. I have no idea why I keep getting tricked by McFadden. I knew not to follow the red herrings that she left throughout the story but I fell to really see what was happening right in front of my face. I was ‘this close’ from rating it 5 stars and still am unsure of my final rating but what I am very sure of is that I loved it. If you like McFadden’s style this one should be added to your list asap!

Cheers and thank you to @NetGalley, @fizzziartist and @DreamscapeMedia for an advanced copy of @NeverLie.

Sit back and let the story unfold. Bc it is not what you think it is… not even close.
The reveal is brilliantly placed and delivered. McFadden’s best work yet.

The narrator did a fabulous job with the delivery and inflections.

Thank you to NetGalley and Frieda McFadden for the opportunity to review this for my honest option.

Finally, Tricia and Ethan are ready to buy their first home together. They’ve found a remote house with an extensive but disturbing history. The previous owner mysteriously vanished and is presumed to have been murdered.

Ethan is fascinated and desperately wants this home. On the other side of the coin, Tricia says, (to herself) over her dead body will she ever agree to live here!

But fate intervenes with a massive snowstorm that strands them during the showing. They have no cell service, and with their realtor conveniently a no show, the couple realize they need to just settle in until a rescue can be made. Who knows…maybe that gives them extra time to learn more about the house and its previous owner.

I never completely meshed with this story. So much of it was over-the-top unrealistic. I think we all want to feel that we could walk in the shoes of the characters we read about even if only for a moment. (Or a chapter). But it just wasn’t possible here.

I’ve read (listened to) one other book by this author The Inmate and enjoyed it. Perhaps the next will play out better (for me).

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media.

The beginning of the book was a bit bland for me, and I did get a little frustrated with the repetition of minor details (how young their marriage was, how they barely knew each other, how she likes a clean shaven face). However, I’m so glad I stuck with it! The end has a shocking twist that changes the perspective of the entire book! I never could have predicted the outcome, and I loved that it wasn’t a typical end to a mystery!

Wow! It started a little slow and Trisha is annoyingly whiny but I’m glad I persevered. Never Lie is one twisted psychological thriller!
I enjoyed listening to the audiobook version. The narration by Leslie Howard was clear and well paced.
Thank You Dreamscape Media, NetGalley and Feida McFadden for the opportunity to enjoy the audiobook version of this this ARC.

4.5 stars. This was my first Frieda McFadden and loved it. It was a crazy ride. I enjoyed every minute of it. I "thought" I knew the twist but she got me. The narrator, Leslie Howard, was excellent however I do wish there were two narrators, one for Tricia and one for Dr. Adrienne.

Big thanks to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the advanced audiobook copy. #NeverLie #NetGalley

I love a good stranded in a snowstorm story. This one was about way more than the storm.

Tricia and Ethan are experiencing blizzard conditions by the time they arrive at the house after a long drive. They are thinking of purchasing the home of renowned therapist Adrienne Hale. Ms. Hale disappeared a few years ago and has yet to be found. Tricia has a bad feeling about the house as soon as they walk inside. But when she finds a secret room filled with tapes of the therapists sessions she is less afraid and more intrigued. The secret room is just one of many secrets the house and its surroundings have to offer.

A twisty ride with abundant red herrings along the way.

Frieda never disappoints me. I listened to the audio version of the book and really enjoyed the narrator.

Thanks to netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the arc.

AUDIOBOOK
Freida McFadden NEVER disappoints!
Tricia and Ethan are newly married and searching for that perfect house. At the start of the story, the couple is traveling many, many miles during a blizzard, to meet their realtor. However when they finally arrive at the prospective house, the realtor is nowhere to be found and due to the weather, they are forced to shelter in the house (mansion). When they learn that the house was previously owned by Dr. Adrienne Hale, a famous author, the two are chilled to the bone as her high profile disappearance was never solved. As the night draws on and snow continues to pile up, there are signs that someone else might be in the house.

Strap yourself in for a wild ride of creepy, scary and twisty fun! Leslie Howard has the perfect voice for Tricia and outdoes herself with this audiobook.. If you are looking for a creepy thriller or a domestic suspense story or just want a novel that will keep you guessing until the end, Never Lie is for you! #Dreamscapemedia #FreidaMcFadden
