Never Lie was a decent domestic thriller. I didn't "see" the twist but I also feel like McFadden led us all over the place, making it nearly impossible to pin down who was responsible for what. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC

I hated everyone in this book and I love that! I can't wait for the next one.
First thing - Everyone is awful and tells all the lies. You think you have things figured out but you're way off. It is twisty and confusing. I love it. I love hating everyone.

Oh and the narration was perfect.

Freida McFadden took me by STORM this year. A new to me author and I can’t binge her backlist fast enough. She’s got twist, she’s got turns, she’s got you flipping the pages at record speed or listening non stop because you just have to know.

When I got the opportunity for an advance listening copy of Never Lie by the author I immediately downloaded and began listening. Freida is such an awesome storyteller. I was truly captivated yet again. She’ll keep you on the edge of your seat with anticipation. Another amazing psychological thriller that was full of twist and turns. I didn’t see that ending coming yet again. This is why I love her writing. Just when you think you know, you find out that you don’t know nothing at all lol.

If you love dual time lines, multiple POVs and short chapters this is the book for you!!!

A huge thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advance listening copy in exchange for my honest opinion. This is another banger by the author!! 4 thrilling stars!! The audiobook added to the experience. It really brought this story to life. I also highly recommend listening to this one.

Fredia McFadden returns following The Housemaid (a hard act to follow-5 Stars) with her latest—NEVER LIE, a diabolical twisty game of cat-and-mouse psychological thriller with unreliable narrators and a shocking final twist.

Setting the mood in this chilling atmospheric remote winter setting—Tricia and Ethan are newlyweds and take off to view a house and meet the realtor, Judy. However, it is snowing, and they are trapped in a violet winter snowstorm when they reach the vast, impressive manor house estate. There is no chance of escaping.

The house is very creepy, and the realtor does not show. The house once belonged to the famous Dr. Adrienne Hale, a renowned psychiatrist who had vanished four years earlier.

Strange things happen. Lots of dust and lights are on, and some cold cuts were found in the refrigerator. It is unlike the realtor not to have cleaned the place in advance. They later find a squatter has been hiding out in the house.

Tricia is looking for a book to read and grab, The Shining. When she does, a secret panel opens with hundreds of cassette tapes. They are recordings of Dr. Hale's sessions. These are chilling and creepy.

Hiding this from her husband, she listens to the tapes and learns of the terrifying events that lead up to Dr. Hale's disappearance. In addition, there are more disturbing discoveries hidden away in the floorboards. What happened at this house?

Whom to trust? Does the husband a wife know one another and their pasts?

An evil, wicked web of lies and deceit. Filled with unreliable characters, where nothing is as it appears. Taut and fraught with surprise twists, both creepy and chilling. Multi-layered, with past secrets. Smart, cunning, and wickedly evil.

Wow! This must be the author's signature move to twist and turn the characters around to give you that jaw-dropping final explosion you did not see coming! Impressed with the author's style and look forward to reading more of her backlist and future books.

For fans of authors Jennifer Hillier, Ruth Ware, and Miranda Rijks.

This was my first book by the author, but quickly as soon as I finished purchased the audiobook, The Housemaid. I could not pre-order The Housemaid's Secret (book #2) coming Feb 20, 2023, fast enough!.

I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator, Leslie Howard, gave an outstanding performance.

A special thank you to #DreamscapeMedia and #NetGalley for an e-ALC to read, review and enjoy.

Tricia and Ethan are desperate to find a home, so desperate they’re willing to buy a house that belonged to a psychiatrist who disappeared mysteriously. They’re off to an inauspicious start when they get snowed in my a massive blizzard. With nothing but time on their hands until the storm blows over, Tricia goes looking for something to read. Instead of finding a book, she stumbles upon. a hidden room that contains the recordings of every session that Dr. Hale had ever had. Listening to the tapes, Tricia begins to out together what really happened to Adrienne Hale and then the true creepiness begins

This audiobook is one of my favorite thrillers of the year. Never Lie was so well done. I thought I had it all figured out, and then I found out the final twist. I am still thinking about it. Tricia and Ethan are not who they seem. Dr. Adrienne Hale, who is missing, is dark and intriguing.

There is a dual perspective/timeline with Dr. Hale and Tricia, and the ending is unpredictable. I highly recommend this book!

4.25+ stars

I’ve read one other book by this writer, and with both of them, I was pleasantly surprised by the endings. With this one in particular, I really thought I had the villain figured out, and although it seemed obvious but logical, it still wasn’t disappointing. As it turns out, my assumption was right but also wrong. I remember thinking, at one point, how wild it was that the protagonist listened to one recorded conversation between a woman and her male partner, decided that the man sounded nice and, since he was later accused of killing her, that the woman must have “done something to make him hate her.” In hindsight, though, it was very fitting and was actually an excellent, although well-concealed, clue. The twists in this thriller were multi-layered, surprising, and fun in a total guilty pleasure kind of way. I really enjoyed the story and can’t wait to see what the writer creates next.

One of my librarian friends recently told me about Freida McFadden so I requested this as soon as I saw it. Now I know what the fuss is about I love the nonlinear timeline and multiple points of view. Also, I thought I had it figured out early on but I was wrong!!

This was such a quick read. I finished in under 24 hours. It was my first Freida McFadden book. My aunt was raving about how great her books are and I see her books all over bookstagram. Let’s just say I wasn’t disappointed.

It was super twisty and the cool thing was, despite having a ton of characters she reiterates details about each character so it’s not quite as confusing..because we want twisty…not confusing from our thriller / mystery books…am I right!? She does twisty very well.

I’m looking forward to reading more books by this author.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
Omg this audiobook was the best I have listened to in a long time.
The story was great and came together perfectly at the end. I thought I had it all figured out and I was so off base which was great.
Narrator did a great job. All around awesome book. It could have been five hours longer and I still would have loved it.
Once I started this one I didn’t think I would be able to stop to even go to bed.
Great job. Everyone needs to listen to this one!!

Never Lie by Freida McFadden

Tricia and Ethan are newlyweds who happen to be house hunting. They got married after a whirlwind romance of dating for nine months. The couple decide to go look at a manor on a day that has a blizzard. They then end up at an old big manor waiting for their realtor to show up. But because of the blizzard the realtor never shows. They decide to take shelter in the manor. The manor it turns out to be the manor of missing person Dr Adrienne Hall, bestselling author of “Anatomy of Fear”. Tricia is not comfortable in the manor. When they arrive at the manor a light was on upstairs when they go look there is no one there. Tricia stumbles across a secret room, filled of recordings of Dr. Hall's sessions with her patients. This is where the mystery unravels. Oh I forgot to mention the Manor is fully furnished. Tricia begins to listen to all the tapes and this is where you find out what happens and what kind of person Dr. Hall is.

I have read a few books of Freida McFadden each one of her books their is always some major big twist which never disappoints. This book follows her previous books writing magic that pulls the reader in spinning a tale in this case a missing psychiatrist who records all her patients without their permission. You get roped in right from the start and I love the parts of the book that the recordings can be heard. I think that part and the manor itself gives the creepy vibe of how the story begins to unfold.

Leslie Howard narrated this audio book and did a great job. It was easy to listen to and follow along with the story. I really enjoyed this psychological thriller and rated it four stars. If you are a fan of psychological thrillers with good twists then this book will be for you. I cannot wait to read Freida McFadden next book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for a free audio copy of Never Lie for an honest review. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Trish is excited she’s newly married to her night and shining armor. Her and her husband Ethan are on their way to look at what could possibly be their forever home and when she tells him her secret they’re going to need it. When they get there however a snowstorm has started so fierce they can’t even park close to the house and of course it would be on the day she wears her Manolo Blahnik boots that aren’t made for walking in the snow. after Ethan gives her a piggyback ride to the front door they find the key and go in. They don’t have cell service but thankfully the house has lights and Ian figured out how to turn on the heat in this big old mansion. It is the biggest house Trish has ever seen soon after they get into the house they figure out it is the house of Dr. Adrian Hale it isn’t just a bigger than life painting above the fireplace but the fact she had shelves and shelves of her up-and-coming book The Anatomy of Fear all about her patients and the different scary things they went through. Something Trish will become closely associated with when looking for something to do she goes to grab The Shining to read and instead of a book coming off the shelf the shelf opened up to reveal a secret run. It was inside this room that Trish found audio tapes and although she felt weird being in this house of a woman who has been missing for three years due to boredom she quickly gets over it and starts to listen. It’s what these tapes reveal that not only explains what happened to the doctor but it also explains many other things as well. This Brooke is a slippery slope of twisty turns and there’s so many OMG moments… This was such a great thriller and there’s no way anyone reading this book will be able to figure out the ending. This is an ending I have never seen before in a thriller and I highly recommend it. Not only was the narrator top notch but when a narrator that good add such finesse to an already awesome story you know you’re in for a really good lesson. A total five star listen. I received this book from NetGalley and the publisher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review . I want to think dreamscape media and Hollywood upstairs Press for my audio arc copy.

Make yourself at home!

Tricia and Ethan are a house-hunting couple of newlyweds. Apparently they don’t know how to check the weather app, because a blizzard hits as they’re nearing the house they’re wanting to check out. Ah, to be young and reckless.

Trekking in from the car, which is stuck somewhere along the driveway, they find their realtor isn’t there. It looked like someone was home because a light was on upstairs. They realize this is the house of the infamous Dr. Hale, a psychiatrist who vanished a few years back and is presumed dead.

With nothing else to do, Tricia stumbles upon Dr. Hale’s hidden tapes of her sessions with clients. This could be a valuable tool the investigators missed.

As she falls deeper into the rabbit hole, she starts to wonder.. is this house really vacant??

Honestly, for me this was basically the perfect little mystery. It had shocks, spookiness, and a trail of breadcrumbs that led to somewhere really unexpected. A locked-room mystery with a past beyond these walls.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to listen and review! The narration was great!

Freida has done it again! Even when I think I figured it out, I’m wrong or missing half Greg twist. I love this about her books. This book lived up to the hype for me. It kept me invested and guessing the whole time. Def another one I’d recommend.

Thanks so much NetGalley and Dreamscape media for the ARC AB!

I’ve been seeing Freida McFadden’s books recommended here, there, and everywhere. I decided to check one out today and, let me tell you, the twists had twists in this book! If you’re in the mood for a completely over the top domestic thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end, look no further. I won’t say anything else as you need to go into a book like this with no warning!!

*Thanks to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for this audio copy for review.

Wow, this is an insanely addictive read! Tricia and Ethan go visit a house that they want to buy, in the middle of a blizzard and end up stranded there. Seems like a dream home, if one ignores the dust, strange footprints and the fact that it’s so reasonably priced because the previous resident went missing, presumed murdered. Tricia is hiding some things from her dreamy new hubby, so she doesn’t tell him when she finds a secret room filled with tapes. These are the recordings that Dr. Adrienne Hale made of her patients before she disappeared. At first I thought it was very predictable because of course I knew what was going on, right? Well, not at all, I was so far off base that, once the awesome twist came, I had to rethink the whole plot, seeing it in a completely new light. Leslie Howard’s performance is great for the audiobook, as she creates two separate, different women, and you always know who’s story you’re listening to. This is a fast read, impossible to put down.
I chose to listen to this audiobook and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, #NetGalley/#Dreamscape Media, Hollywood Upstairs Press!

Hmm.. Don't get me wrong I'm all about Freida's fast paced twisty reads, but this one might have been too over the top for me. To be fair, I just finished the Housemaid, which blew me away, so perhaps my expectations were a bit too high. Never Lie was a quick easy read, but the twists almost seemed too 'in it for the shock value' in this one. I'll certainly look forward to her next one.

I thought I had this one figured out from the beginning - I was thinking “man I’ve read too many of these books I’m starting to figure out the twist from the get go” and I was WRONG. Loved this one.

Thank you to Dreamscape Media, Hollywood Upstairs Press, and NetGalley for allowing me to listen to this ARC on audio

Wow! I really liked this. I wasn’t sure because the ratings were all over the place. The story immediately kicked off with suspense and mystery. Dual POV with past and present I was dying to see how it would end. I chose to listen to this book on audio and the narrator was really good. I highly suggest listening to the audiobook for this one. I began to suspect everyone and it took several turns. I was pleasantly surprised.
