WOW!! This book is straight into the action from the first page and it doesn’t let up.
DCI Craig Gillard’s pregnant wife Sam is involved in a terrifying incident in a shopping centre. Days later the young man involved is found dead but the young woman who threatened to kill Sam is nowhere to be seen.
Meanwhile. Gillard has received a tip off about a big job happening in central London just days before Christmas. The met are also aware but no one can find out what the job will be or where it will take place. There could be a link to the dead young man or that could be a red herring, Gillard and the Met have to dig deep to get enough information to try to stop the job or be left once again discredited in the eyes of the public.
If you like a fast paced, twisty crime story you have to read this.

Another cracking read by Nick Louth and glad to see Craig is on fine form. Whilst I admire Craig enormously with what he’s been through, I have to say I find Sam immensely irritating! For someone who was so desperate to get pregnant, and have a baby, the things she gets up to at the start of the book made me wonder if she was “wired up” properly! Who in their right mind at 6 months pregnant chases villains through a shopping centre and is threatened because of it. She’s annoyed me in previous books, but this time, well …….

However, saying that, this book is the BEST YET and I absolutely love this series. The crimes in this one are so possible and plausible and it’s up to Gillard who is helping “the flying squad” with culshaw to discover what these old lags are up to. It is such a clever storyline, and not what you would think. I had to keep reading, burning the midnight oil, and was rapidly turning the pages over, as it was so thrilling. I can’t go into detail, but it does make you wonder if this could happen.

I think Nick will be hard pushed to better this, but then all his books are excellent and this was so different.

My thanks to Nick, Canelo and Netgalley for the ARC.

A well written read with a compelling storyline that kept me gripped and enough twists to keep me guessing. I would recommend it.

At last, a story that's more than just 'ok - read and forget'. DCI Gillard and faithful team work with the Met to try to establish what's going down when various tips suggest a major heist is about to happen. At the same time he's investigating the death of a young man involved in a mugging and attempted murder of Gillard's pregnant wife. Are they linked? A story of old lags long retired, or are they? Tips galore but are they real or simply a smoke screen from the clever old lags? Is the heist to be a very valuable piece of art or equally valuable jewels, or something else altogether? Lots of clues, more red herrings and a good finale to an all to plausible heist these days. Definitely a good read. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy.

Another excellent novel from Nick Louth . It is a very complex and contemporary tale and as usual gallops along from page one. Very readable and a real page turner .

Its hard to review this book without giving spoilers
The main investigation is based on bits of information coming into the Police about a £1.5 Billion crime about to take place.
All they know is the value of the crime and maybe someone who’s involved in it.
The story is brilliantly written, plausible and engaging.
I really enjoyed it but I don’t want to give anything away

Life for DCI Craig Gillard and wife Sam is exciting with their first baby due in the spring. Before that though is Christmas and Sam has been enjoying a day of shopping when she witnesses a crime which leaves her traumatised and scared. A few days later Craig is dismayed to discover a personal link to a murder victim which leaves him suddenly on the sidelines of his own investigation.

Whispers are reaching him however of a big job due to be undertaken before everything shuts down for the festive season and soon Craig finds himself involved in a cat and mouse chase as he tries to discover not only what's about to happen but also who's involved. With the stakes apparently sky high the prospect of failure can't be considered but have they got everything in hand or have the conflicting rumours blindsided them all?

Number eleven in the brilliant DCI Craig Gillard series of books is not one to read if you're tired! It's compelling from the start and as everything becomes clearer to those involved a tad complicated as well! All is explained within the storyline and having slowed my pace a little I was able to follow everything quite easily and finishedit in two sittings. Once again Craig's private life impacts on his job and I was concerned by the ending which I am convinced was actually a subtle cliffhanger because this author doesn't do low key anything!

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. I thoroughly enjoyed this and recommend it and the whole series very highly.

Great Britain, greed, family, friendship, thievery, theft, due-diligence, law-enforcement, informants, procedural, murder, deceit, planning, murder-investigation, cooperation*****

The investigation started when Gillard's pregnant wife ran afoul of a pair of malicious petty thieves in a shopping mall. Of the two people involved in the incident with his wife, one is found dead (proved to be murdered) and the other missing. It seems that they were involved with a professional group planning a high-priced heist. And then things get really exciting. This was another great story and it kept me up much too late reading it!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book from Canelo via NetGalley. Thank you!

The Body in the Shadows is another excellent addition to the DCI Craig Gillard series.
Sam, Gillard’s pregnant wife is assaulted in a shopping centre by a male and female shoplifters. A few days later the body of a man is found drowned he is identified as the male shoplifter. A police informant tells Gillard he has heard rumours of a heist about to soon take place where the value of this crime will be £500 million, somehow the dead male is linked to this.
With a race against time to foil this crime Gillard and his team plus others in the Met must work quickly to discover what crime is about to take place and stop it.
Not wishing to give away any spoilers I can only say that this is a brilliant book, so many twists and turns and I was in awe when the actual crime was revealed, I didn’t see it coming and I’m sure no other reader will!
Very cleverly written, with a cast of great characters, entertaining and exciting with a particularly satisfying finale.
My thanks to netgalley and publisher for the opportunity to review this book honestly.

Sam Gillard gets more than she bargained for when she tries to foil a pickpocket at a shopping centre

Her husband Craig isn't faring much better. It's coming up to Christmas, and there's a rumour circulating of the biggest blag ever about to go down in London.

But you shouldn't necessarily listen to rumours...

The Flying Squad think the National Gallery is the target.

Craig, meanwhile, has the small matter of an informant being found dead not long after contacting him. And, inevitably, all of these elements come together.

Brilliant, the best yet in this excellent series
