Thank you Netgalley for the advance audiobook copy of Winter's End by Paige Shelton in exchange for an honest review. It's official, I love this series. I went back and listened to the first three so I would be all caught up, and I'm glad I did. This is an amazing series and I really want to move to Benedict, Alaska now. I love the town and the people Shelton writes about. I loved learning Beth's journey and how much she's grown and become an integral part of the town. This was a great book and I can't wait for the next one.

Winter's End is a mystery set in the small town of Benedict, Alaska. Though this is the 4th book in the series, this was my first read. The characters were well-written, and though there is clearly a lot of backstory, I didn't feel lost at all while reading. I look forward to reading more books by Paige Shelton!

Thank you to the publishers, author and NetGalley for the free copy of this audio book.

I couldn't really get into this as much as I'd like. I didn't go back and read the previous books and I think that was part of the reason, but even though it was well written and had a good narrator, I think it was just a bit too much of a slow burn for me.

It’s a grim tradition every spring in Benedict, Alaska. Locals go on the Death Walk to find the bodies of those who have died and lain buried under snow and ice all winter. Beth and Orin set off to check on an elderly man living alone in the wilderness and discover that while alive, the man needs immediate medical attention. Orin sets off to fetch help, but he doesn’t return; it would appear the he has gone missing. Orin’s top secret research may have left him in danger and he might not have just wandered off and gotten lost. Still suffering from PTSD after she was kidnapped, Beth can’t stop feeling that someone is watching her. Could this be connected to Orin’s disappearance? Ans what about the other town residents who have gone missing? A solid and entertaining read about some of the grimmer aspects of living in a cold climate

The wild Northwest! And wild is right. With eccentric personalities, family feuds, independent spirits, isolated lifestyles, and a downright dangerous environment, this storyline was full of twists and turns. I loved how there are several storylines that all came together to make for a great mystery and an engaging story about a community living in isolated Alaska.

The narration of the audiobook was great with such distinct characters.

Can’t wait to see what is in store for Beth next!

Full disclaimer, this is the first book I have read/listened to in this series so I don’t have all the background from the other books, and honestly didn’t realize it was part of a series until I was about halfway through. This is a decent standalone if you don’t mind having some questions about relationships by the end that would likely be cleared up in the other novels.

I enjoyed both the writing, and the narrator for the most part. Beth isn’t a very compelling character, and she had ridiculous traits that pulled me out of the story from time to time. Some of the traits include being able to calculate distance by looking very accurately, and throwing herself into unsafe situations trying to get herself killed.

The overall mystery was entertaining enough to keep me engaged until the end, and I was uncertain who the murderer was until the end. The twist wasn’t super surprising, but overall was better written than most mystery books I have read recently.

There are a couple pet peeves I have since I do, actually, live in Alaska. First, the main two families reminded me so much of the tv series featuring the Kiltures, that I’m fairly sure they inspired the author. Second, I have never heard anyone here refer to a snow bank as a berm, that is a term I’ve only in the New England area. Finally, the area referred to would have gone through break up in March-April, and probably have planted the spring starts by May. Everything would have been muddy months before, and have dried and been verdant green by June. I know that sounds super knit-picky, but it’s key to the story with the ground impressions. I went so far as to look forward up the weather conditions of Kake, AK, an island roughly located where I guess Benedict would be based on what I heard. To balance things, I was pleasantly surprised when Beth saw the Northern Lights for the first time a year after arriving in Alaska. People often think it’s super easy to spot them, but the conditions aren’t often favorable when they are out.

Overall I enjoyed this slow-burn mystery, and I will likely read more of Mrs. Shelton’s books.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing a free advanced reader.

Another great installment in the Alaska Wild mystery series and I am looking forward to reading book #5 when it gets published. I love Beth's character and all of the time Paige Shelton put into creating Beth's back story; this character has endured major trauma and yet still cares enough about the people in her new home town to be worried when she doesn't see them for a day or two.

Suzie Althens narrated this audiobook and at first I wasn't sure if I would like her narration, not because she was doing a bad job of narrating but because I had already read books 1 through 3 and I had a voice in my head for Beth and the narrators voice doesn't always match the voice in my head. By chapter three, I had decided that Suzie was doing a great job of representing Beth and by the end of the book I was very much looking forward to hearing more books narrated by Suzie in the future.

Winter's End is a cozy mystery set in a small town in Alaska. The characters were well-fleshed out and eccentric, adding a great deal of interest to this book. The location adds another layer of intrigue with the limited access to information and phone service. The beauty of the land well-described, as is the need to rely on others in this rather isolated place.

In terms of the mystery, there weren't many shocking reveals. Rather, the focus was on a slow build. The aspects that were unexpected and surprising were things that weren't directly related to the main mystery of this specific book, but rather aspects that carry through in the series.

I think that I’ve read everything that Paige Shelton has published, so it was no surprise that I Loved the fourth book in her Alaska Wild series: Winter’s End: A Mystery.

This book was not only filled with intrigue and a who-done-it, but it further explored the people and area that surround Beth Rivers in her new-ish home in Benedict, Alaska (a place that she’s beginning to associate with the word “home”). There is even some 007-esque covert action going on, as well as historical feuds that Desperately need to be resolved; all while Beth tends to pets and her friends who need her more than they know.

There are a lot of interesting dynamics considered, as well as prejudices analyzed, but to not give any spoilers away, I will just say that the title is definitely a great one for this book.

Thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for this advanced listener’s copy!!

This book was really good. I hopped into the series at the 4th book but was still able to get the gist of what was going on. However, it was so good that I now want to go back and read all the books that came before. I love that Beth was a resilient and determined woman who was going to get to the bottom of what was happening and no one was going to intimidate her or scare her off. Can't wait to read more books by this author!

Surprisingly, I did not realize this was a "book 4" of a series. I love the settings in Alaska - but the storyline was hard to follow, most likely because I haven't read books 1-3. I assume character development was done much in the previous books because it wasn't in this one. Descriptions of the setting were well-done. The narration of the audio book did not flow well. 2 stars.

ᴡɪɴᴛᴇʀ’s ᴇɴᴅ ʙʏ ᴘᴀɪɢᴇ sʜᴇʟᴛᴏɴ is book four in the Alaska Wild Mystery series and just might be the best one yet!

I enjoyed this installment and the new characters that were introduced. I was pulled in right away and ended up finishing it in one sitting. With not one, but three mysteries to follow along with, this book kept me on my toes.

Paige does an excellent job of hooking you within the first few pages and the book is consistently entertaining until the very end.All of the characters are intriguing and the multiple mysteries will keep you in suspense.

I encourage you to pick up Thin Ice, the first in the series, and read them back to back. The narrator for the audiobooks does such a wonderful job!

I love this series! The setting is amazing and the story keeps you reading, entranced until the very end. The characters are well-developed and likeable. The concept of the Death Walk was absolutely perfect to set the scene for the murder. There's so much I learn about Alaska in this series and I hope, after that ending, that the series continues. Looking forward to many more.

This book is about two fueding families and a death of a woman. The feud goes back so far that there are a few different stories as to what it was all about. the feud continues with a death of a woman and the birth of a baby. Who killed the mother and who has the baby? who is the father of the baby? Then slip in a safe house and the issues as to why those people are at the safe house. I really liked all the twists in this book.

I'm happy to be back in Benedict, Alaskaaa! From books 1-4, the development in "Winter's End" is what I've been waiting for! 😍💃

Beth Rivers is a successful mystery writer and has been hiding in Benedict after a book fan abducted her. She escaped with some injuries but since he was never caught she doesn't feel safe and constantly looks over her shoulder.

Beth lives at The Benedict House, a halfway house for nonviolent female convicts. She's made some new friends and is in charge of the town's local paper.

It's springtime and the community gathers together for the customary "death walk" to see if people survive the winter. Gasp, is this real?😱 As it turns out, an elderly is found weak, there are missing people, and a body was found!

This is overall entertaining and a good addition to the series. If you've been reading the last three, I think you'll enjoy where the story is going. With that said, it's best to read the first book before "Winter's End" although you don't need to. I've listened to this series since book one and enjoyed the audiobook narrated by Suzie Althens. 3.5⭐

Thank you Net Galley for an audio ARC of Winter's End by Paige Shelton. This book was so so for me. The first half was great. The second half was all ice the place in my opinion. 3 stars!

I read about a third of this and then set it aside. The narrator was just so . . . pedantic, and the writing was stilted.

This is the fourth book in the Alaskan Wilderness series and I loved it! I am really enjoying the development of the main character Beth and the other regulars from Benedict. I would say this series is a step up from cozy mystery, but not quite thriller status. I can't wait for the next one - this is an author I am becoming so impressed with!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
I just couldn’t get into this one. I actually ended up not finishing it. I kept trying to get interested and I could not.
I didn’t love the narrator either.
This is a pass for me. But I’m sure others would enjoy it.
