This was a fun and quick little prequel novella for the AGGGTM series ! I do wish I had maybe reread the books because I legit didn’t remember who any of the characters were besides Pip 😂

3. 5 stars. This prequel novella tells the story of Pip and her friends playing a costume murder mystery game. Pip gets really wrapped up in it and, ultimately, it helps her decide what she will do her senior capstone project on. Of course, the capstone project is the vehicle for her investigation in A Good Girl's Guide to Murder. It was a fun, quick read but not necessary.

A great thriller - Holly Jackson doesn't ever let me down!

I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was such a fun prequel to the A Good Girl's Guide to Murder (AGGGTM) trilogy!

In Kill Joy, Pip and her friends have a murder mystery party. It's set on an island in the 1920s and each person has a character to play. Someone ends up being "murdered" and the friends play along and sift through clues and red herrings in order to figure out "whodunnit."

I loved the concept of this story. Each person showed up in an old-fashioned costume and acted out their role and it was such a fun idea. In order to play the game, Pip and her friends use a game set where each character has their own booklet which gives them information to share at specific points throughout the game. It periodically reveals their motives, secrets, and alibis. I thought the concept of the game itself was really cool and I'm definitely going to see if I can find one in real life to play with my own friends.

I thought the mystery itself was really interesting and I enjoyed playing along and trying to figure out who the murderer was. Since it was a fake murder, the stakes felt much lower than the very high stakes in the original trilogy, but that didn't take away from the excitement and just made Kill Joy feel more cozy. It was also really nice to be back with Pip and her friends one last time.

Whether you're already a fan of AGGGTM and want more of Pip and her sleuthing, or you're interested in reading the trilogy, I would highly recommend picking up this fun prequel.

Flew through this one in no time! What a great novella and a must read if you loved A Good Girls Guide To Murder as much as I did!

I found this story to be a little slow, but the author did an amazing job. This ties into the trilogy almost seamlessly, read this first!

This is a novella so it's a super fast read. The premise of this book is a murder mystery party where teens try to figure out who the murderer is. Sounds great and all, but honestly, nothing happens. I was left feeling cheated.

Acute prequel to the series, this was a quick read with a well written mystery plot. I've not read the rest of the series yet, but I'm looking forward to hanging out with Pippa and her friends again.

This was a quick one, but I loved it all the same! Holly Jackson made me fall in love with Pip and I loved getting a small prequel for this series that changed my opinion on YA “thrillers”. There were definitely times where I was feeling nervous and had to check behind me. Haha a sign of a well written thriller! Still best to read this fourth even though it’s a prequel!

This book was so fun! I’ve missed Pip so much! I have read all the other gggtm books and the last one left such a bad taste in my mouth. I feel like all the actions Pip took in that book were completely out of character for her and it was just hard for me to read.

This book on the other hand was a needed pallet cleanser and brought my love of her character back. This book is set leading up to Pip deciding on her senior project. She is at a who done it murder mystery party with her og friends. The night is told through Pip’s pov with you getting her info for her part of the murder mystery dinner. Shenanigans and Pip’s calculating mind give this quick read a lot of mirth and fun.

If you love the energizer bunny, serious to a fault Pip the original book gave us you should definitely read this book.

Such a fun novella to an already great series. Any chance I get to catch up with Pip is such a fun experience. I thought this was an easy to read novella and would be a good starting point to anyone who is experienced the trilogy for the first time.

Fun! I loved this quick “Clue” like story. It was a super quick listen and I loved how it set the stage for the first book!

Honestly anything Holly Jackson writes is a great time. She’s got a way of pulling you into these worlds and getting you invested. And her stories somehow don’t overload or confuse you with information, it’s just enough at just the right time.

Three words: Murder. Dinner. Party.
Loved every twist and turn to this short story. It went perfectly with the series. And as always kept me on the edge of my seat. Every time I thought I had it figured out, another plot twist.

BOOK REVIEW: KILL JOY
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I loved jumping back into Pipa Fitz-Amobi’s world, even if just for the afternoon! She’s one of my all time fav characters and this novella was such a fun read!

Although Kill Joy is the prequel to the AGGGTM series, it’s the last book I read. The topic of this one is very different from the others in the series, centering around all of the characters playing different roles as a part of a murder mystery game. It was fun to see the characters take on their fictional alter egos in the fictional world set in 1920’s Scotland. As always, Pip’s natural detective instinct shines through as she works to solve the case!

As a fan of locked-room mysteries and a hugeeee fan of this series, I loved this quick read and would highly recommend! Also, I don’t think it matters if you read the prequel before or after the series!

What a fun prequel story to an amazing trilogy! My only reservation with this short story is that it was short! I could have easily had more and would have been happy to read it. If you loved A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, I recommend reading this treat to see where it all started!

This was such a fun prequel! I love the characters in this series and getting a sneak peek in what started Pip's podcast! A great novella for an afternoon read.

I enjoyed this prequel to the series. It gave us a little more background into our main character and why she likes to solve mysteries. I know teenagers that come to our library will enjoy this one!
