This is a must for any fan of Jackson's Good Girl's series - and especially for readers new to the series. We join Pip and her friends as they attend a murder mystery party that is full of twists and turns. It is a fast-paced party and a fast-paced read, as well. The events in this novella set the stage for the novels to come, making it the perfect addition to all readers of the series.

I enjoyed this quick read! It felt as if I was at the party alongside Pip and her friends, trying to guess who the "murderer" was. However, I did feel it was a bit brief - especially the ending. Without giving anything away, I felt that there could have been a bit more in the final scene to make a strong introduction to the first book in the series - A Good Girl's Guide to Murder - which is previewed at the end of the novella. Overall, it is an excellent addition to the series and I highly recommend fans read it at any point during the series.

Anyone who has read any of the Good Girl’s Guide to Murder books knows what to expect from Holly Jackson. Pip is right up there with Veronica Mars as one of my favorite YA sleuths.

This book is .05. a prequel to the to the first book. Read this one if you haven’t started the series yet. And if you haven’t started the series, what are you waiting for? For those of us who have read these books, read this novella just for the enjoyment.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Children's, Delacorte Press for this ARC.

This was a cute mystery prequel!

Pip and her friends gather for a 1920s murder mystery night. Who can solve the crime before the night ends?

This takes place before A Good Girl’s Guide to murder and sets up that book nicely! You get a good healthy dose of Pip and how her mystery solving brain works. I loved the ending too!

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House children’s for this ARC! I absolutely adore this series and once I saw there was a prequel novella, I requested to read it early so fast. I love Pip and she may be one of my favorite YA characters.

This is a quick and fun murder mystery game novella and I enjoyed it very much! The ending was perfect and loved how it tied together the other books so perfectly.

Thank you to NetGalley for an arc of Kill Joy in exchange for an honest review. This review is wholly my own & may not be reproduced.

I absolutely LOVED & devoured the A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder trilogy so I squealed with joy when I was given the opportunity to review this little gem of a novella, which is a prequel to the series.

For what it was, the book was a quick & easy read and give us a little bit more of the characters we already know and love.

Basically, Pip & her friends are invited to a murder mystery party & have to figure out who among them is the killer. Very similar to Knives Out.

If this a novel/novella all on its own, my rating would be much lower, but because it ties into the already established trilogy, it gets marked a little higher.

Just don’t go in expecting anything other than what it is, which is a cheesy little, completely fake, murder mystery with characters you are already invested in. There were no big shockers or twists that you won’t see coming.

If you are a fan of the A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder trilogy, definitely give this novella a read. You will likely enjoy it. If you haven’t read the trilogy, do that first or you will likely think this novella is just a little basic.

3.5 Stars from me.

3.5 stars-This was a quick and enjoyable read. It is a prequel to the A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series during which Pip and her friends participate in a murder mystery party. It is a very cute story albeit some parts felt hackneyed. That being said, I thought the conclusion was a clever way to set up the plot of the first book! I would definitely recommend for fans of the Good Girl’s trilogy! Thank you to NetGalley for this advanced reader copy!

I really enjoyed this novella! It was an easy, short read. It’s true when they say big things come in small packages!

This was such a cute read. It was fun to see Pip use her detective skills for something a lot more lighthearted. A 1920s murder mystery dinner? It was perfect. Her competitiveness was hilarious (and totally relatable.) We also get to see a little of the thought process behind her choosing Andie Bell’s murder case for her senior project in AGGGTM.

Such a good little prequel. It was really great Pippa and her friends attend a murder mystery party. It really felt like reading a game of clue!

I had to rub my eyes quite a few times while staring at this approval e-mail.

A Holly Jackson, book? Really?

Did I just hit the lottery?

You, betcha!

I'm part of the massive fan club for Holly Jackson. Having obsessed over The Good Girls Guide to Murder, and everything that followed, I have developed more than just a love for her books but an actual obsession.

Kill Joy, was incredible. It was everything I never knew I needed in a book.

This book is a novella. Short, sweet, and right to the point. I devoured this book in one sitting. In true Jackson fashion, she delivers.

We have all fallen in love with Pip throughout The Good Girls Guide to Murder series and Pip is back at it again! Holly Jackson can narrate a novel like no other. Pulling me in with the very first sentence, I become fixated on flipping pages and uncovering the twist.

Holly Jackson has been the only YA author I have read. This is because she doesn't write for just one specific audience. Anyone who loves reading, will love and appreciate her books.

Five stars..

Did you expect anything less?

Teaser:

You're invited to the murder mystery party of the year! Fans of the hit series A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder will love Pip’s final detective case in this mystery novella from #1 New York Times bestselling author Holly Jackson.

Six suspects. Three hours. One murder…

Pip is not in the mood for her friend’s murder mystery party. Especially one that involves 1920’s fancy dress and pretending that their town is an island called Joy. But when the game begins, Pip finds herself drawn into the make-believe world of intrigue, deception and murder.

But as Pip plays detective, teasing out the identity of the killer clue-by-clue, the murder of the fictional Reginald Remy isn’t the only case on her mind …

I loved being sucked back into Pip’s mind with this novella that is the prequel to A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder. It sets up the series excellently. The murder mystery theme was so fun and I definitely want to plan one myself ASAP! This is a fantastic young adult mystery novella and I really enjoyed the mixed media and the characters.

Pip is invited to a murder mystery party, and she's not in the mood to be there. It's set in the 1920s on a remote island. As the mystery unfolds, Pip realizes that she enjoys piecing together clues. She also can't help but think about a tragic murder in her hometown.

This was a fun prequel to A Good Girl's Guide to Murder. It's the first series I've binged in years, so I was thrilled to learn there's a prequel novella.

I've never played a murder mystery party game, but I can only assume it's almost as chaotic as the one in this book. It took me out of the murder mystery element of the story whenever Pip and her friends broke character, which is probably exactly how these games feel.

I loved seeing Pip put the mystery together and come out with a conclusion that made sense with the clues. If you've read A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, this is a fun additional story.

This novella takes place just a few months before the start of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. Pip is attending a murder mystery night with her friend group for Connor Reynold’s birthday.

Overall, it was a quick fun read for me as someone who just recently read all three books in the A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series. I enjoyed getting insight into how Pip ultimately decided to tackle the Andie Bell murder case following this night and the glimpses into the characters that I grew to love and to hate in the series.

This novella is definitely for readers that have already read and loved the series!

AGGGTM is one of my favorite series so I was so excited when I was given a copy of this courtesy of Netgalley!

This gave me all the vibes that I love so much about the series in a cozy murder mystery setting. It was a lot of fun getting back to see Pip and exactly what inspired her to do her project on. And of course getting the little Easter eggs of the future books, ifykyk!

Such a fun little prequel for all fans of the series. I highly recommend this one!

It was so much fun to be back in Pip's world right before A Good Girl's Guide to Murder series begins! Like in the trilogy, you get to see her try to solve a mystery from all angles in Kill Joy, and even though it just follows a mystery at a murder mystery party, you can't help but feel like it's real, with Pip's determination to solve the murder and the twists that occur throughout the night.

Thank you Delacorte Press and NetGalley for the chance to ready an early copy!

Holly Jackson’s “a good girls guide to murder” happens to be one of my favorite series, so when the ARC came out I HAD to request it! In this novella Pip is invited to a murder mystery party held by her friends. During the events you can just tell this is where Pip got her love of figuring out mysteries because this was a murder mystery party she just had to be right in figuring out. This is definitely a must read for fans, the only thing I wish is that the book was a little bit longer!

1.5/5 stars! I wanted to like this prequel novella. I have read the 'Good Girl's Guide to Murder' series and enjoyed them. This book, however, had very little plotline and felt like a money grab by the author. I've enjoyed a lot of her books, but this one was not it for me. You could guess the twists very early on and it didn't make engaging in the story fun.

I received an advance review copy for free through NetGalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily

I love A Good Girl's Guide to Murder series so I was so excited to read this novella! This is a prequel where Pip and her friends are at a murder mystery party. I loved seeing and reading about the gang before the events of the book series changes them. I loved seeing all the foreshadowing for the later books. I would recommend reading this after the book series, but you can definitely read it before since there isn't any spoilers.

This was a fun read. It was interesting to see how the murder mystery unraveled---and good to see this friend group and their dynamics before the events of the subsequent books changed them.
