I devoured Night Swim, the first in this series, and Dark Corners was a worthy follow-up. Rachel Kroll is a true crime podcaster who finds herself in the middle of the case of a missing woman and a convention of influencers. I love that Rachel does what she wants and follows her own insticts--which mostly works out quite well. There are enough twists and red herrings here to keep the reader guessing until the moment of reveal.

Another great book from Megan Goldin! A little predictable, but still thrilling and I loved how things tied up in the end.

I like that we get to follow multiple points of view in the story. I hope there’s another story with Rachel in the future!

Thank you Megan Goldin and St Martins Press for the ARC copy of this book!

A little disappointing for a follow up to The Night Swim.
I read The Night Swim and Dark Corners back to back. Rachel was very likable in the first novel. In Dark Corners, Rachel came off as brash, ridiculous, and unlikable. Everything about her decisions was extremely unsafe. Unlike Stephanie Plum, it was not humorous in the least. The romance tossed into the middle of the book was not needed.
I did like the murder mystery/thriller portion of the book. It kept me guessing until nearly the end.
I felt that the podcast transcript along with the different story lines did not fit well together and were confusing at times. Very different from The Night Swim where her podcast transcripts weaved clues into the story line.
Overall, not a bad read but definitely not as good as The Night Swim or Stay Awake.

I love the Rachel Krall series and this newest addition is no exception. There is a serial killer on the loose, along with more questions than answers and Rachel is pulled into the middle of the hunt. So many questions, missing victims and hopefully a love interest, moves this story along at a fast, twisted pace. Grab this read, or add to your TBR list. Such a good read.

This book was SO good! I never saw the twists coming! The characters were amazing and I really enjoyed how we had a couple different POV's to follow. I thought her last book was my favorite but I think Megan Goldin out-did herself on this one. 5 stars! Great mysterious thriller! Thank you to the Author, Publisher, and NetGalley for the ARC!!!!

Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read an ARC of this book!

I have been a fan of Megan Goldin since her book, The Escape Room. She's become an author whose every book I will read.

Let's get into this one, Dark Corners. I finished it in a couple of days, I got pulled in immediately. At first it was a lot of questions and wondering how these seemingly disparate things are connected. Never fear, the connections and the twists will be clarified.

I do wish we could have had like an epilogue of sorts. Certain chapters served as transcripts of Rachel's podcast episodes and I would have liked to have a chapter where Rachel discuses how the killer was brought to justice.

Overall, another great read from Megan Goldin!

I read the first book in the Rachel Krall series in 2020, giving it four stars. Her latest book is just as good. Entertaining, clever and a page-turner. I appreciated the reincorporation of Golden’s podcaster spin, and invested early on in her characters. I recommend for readers who enjoy thriller/mysteries.

If you loved the Night Swim Rachel Krall is back in Dark Corners!! If you are new to Megan Goldin - welcome and buckle up for some great thrillers.

Rachel is the popular host of a true crime podcast and now the FBI need her help with a case. They are investigating the disappearance of a social media influencer and need Rachel to attempt to get some information from prisoners who is also a suspected murderer.

Once again Goldin has given us a well developed story and characters you really care about. Dark Corners really is a captivating read and Rachel Krall is such a great character - I hope we see more of her - and I think we just might!

Thank you to Netgalley and St Martin's Press for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. Dark Corners will definitely be on my recommendation list for 2023!

Megan Golden does it again! I've been impressed with every book I've read of hers and this is no exception. This is the second novel in Goldin's Rachel Krall series (The Night Swim is the first). Krall has a well-known investigative podcast. The FBI found her contact information during a missing persons investigation and called her in to meet with a prisoner, Terrence Bailey, that they think might have something to do with her disappearance. Madison Logan is a social media influencer in town for a conference when she goes missing, right after visiting Bailey in prison. Bailey is a suspected serial Killer, did Madison find something out she shouldn't have? Krall is determined to help this investigation, even when the FBI pressures her to go home. Will she be able to find out information at the influencer conference that the FBI cant?

Amazing. Kept me guessing all the way through. Loves this book and also loved 'Stay Awake" by this author. She is now on my favorite author list.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an e- arc of 'Dark Corners. '

I absolutely love Megan Goldin as a writer and I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to read this latest release, Dark Corners continues the story of Rachel Krell, a podcaster previously featured in the Night Swim. While I hate to compare books, this one, sadly did not live up to it’s predecessor. Perhaps it was the story line of the influencer, but as a reader, I just wasn’t connected to her character. The story also bounced around a lot and I didn’t see or understand the connections between all the characters. This story, unlike the Night Swim, required more patience and I just didn’t find myself interested in reading it, For me, if a book feels more like a chore to read, then it’s just not a good fit. I will, of course, look forward to Megan’s next book. Thanks for the opportunity to read and review,

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

When I saw that Megan Goldin had a new book out, I knew I needed to add it to my TBR list right away! Dark Corners by Megan Goldin revolves around Rachel, who is the protagonist of one of her previous books. I didn't read that one, but I had no trouble getting into this one. Rachel has been contacted by the FBI for help in the investigation of the disappearance of Maddison Logan, a young social influencer. Before Maddison disappeared, she visited a renowned serial killer. Are the two connected? It's up to Rachael to find out the truth!

Here is an atmospheric excerpt from Chapter 2;

"Rachel Krall pressed her foot on the gas as a view of barbed-wire fences and towering steel guard towers emerged from beyond the treetops. She drove until the road ended at a row of bright yellow boom gates under a sign as cheery as it was cynical.
“Welcome to the Central Florida Correctional Facility” it said in the childish bubble letters of a tourist billboard.
As Rachel waited for the boom gate to go up, she caught a glimpse of prisoners in orange jumpsuits exercising in a yard penned in by razor-wire fences. An officer at the top of a steel guard tower trained his high-powered rifle at the prisoners as they moved about the yard."

Overall, Dark Corners is a gripping serial killer thriller that will appeal to fans of None Shall Sleep and the Serial podcast. One highlight of this book is how unputdownable it was. I couldn't stop reading and ended up finishing this book in a day. I was worried that the premise of this book didn't sound as good as Stay Awake, the last book I read from this author, but the author proved me wrong. I didn't need to worry. The plot was interesting throughout and there was a nice twist at the end. If you're intrigued by the excerpt above, or if you're a fan of thrillers in general, I highly recommend that you check out this book when it comes out in August!

I was fascinated to watch this one play out. I completely enjoyed speculating and watching all the pieces fall together. What you think you know...well, you just don't know. True monsters do hide in plain sight after all, and things are not always how they seem. I was definitely led down path this author wanted me to go and completely enjoyed the trip.

The one where she held off reading this book for 10 whole days.

Shhhh. Don’t tell the 25 books that publish before Dark Corners that are patiently waiting on my NetGalley shelf, that I just couldn’t stop myself from reading this DRC that doesn’t publish until August 2023. The good news: I’m finished and can now return to the books I have that publish in January. Sorry not sorry.
I was a huge fan of The Night Swim and I wanted to see what Rachel would investigate next. This time Joe Martinez, an FBI agent asks Rachel for her help. Maddison Logan, a social media influencer visits Terence Bailey, an inmate, and then vanishes. Joe hopes Rachel can get information from Terence who he believes is somehow involved( jail never stop the truly bad guys, right).

The story comes together from three POV‘s: Rachel, Thomas McCoy( an unusual/ creepy rideshare driver)and Owen Bragg, a park ranger. It seem pretty apparent where the story was headed but it’s a Megan Goldin book so of course there are twists and turns and layers to the story( oh, and my guess was wrong !).

The only thing I really didn’t love was the romance between two of the characters who shall remain nameless (and keep me away from shark infested spoiler waters). Just my opinion but I could’ve done without that. It just didn’t hook me and actually took me out of the story.

Otherwise an intriguing mystery with some great characters that kept me flipping the pages.

This book was amazing!! Didn’t want to put it down!! Rachel Krall had no idea why detectives wanted her to fly to Florida to talk to them. When she found out why , She was intrigued. The books leads you in one direction and then takes many twists along the way. Keeping you on the edge of your seat the entire way

This was a page turner from start to finish! I really enjoyed the character build up in this book. From the start, Rachel is a like-able and her stubborn and mystery solving personality are very relatable there were twists and turns throughout the story that had me questioning everything I thought I had figured out. It had creepy moments, suspenseful moments, and of course a little bit of romance going on. I was already a fan of Megan Goldin, her writing style, and her character development. This book is just another great read from her. This is a “book club read” for sure!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC!

I was so excited when I got this ARC that it immediately moved to the top of my TBR and I was not disappointed! This book rejoins Rachel Krall, host of the true crime podcast Guilty or Not Guilty, following her as she is summoned to visit a suspected serial killer in prison. #vanlife influencer Maddison Logan has gone missing, and she went to see this same prisoner right before she died. Can Rachel help the FBI find Maddison before it’s too late, or might she become the next target?

This book has many different plot points and storylines that all lead up to a thrilling conclusion! I love Rachel Krall’s character. It was also nice to get an inside look at the influencer culture represented in the book. I always enjoy Megan Goldin’s stories, and this one was no different!

“The scariest monster is the one that hides in plain sight.”

Megan Goldin is one of my favorite authors. I absolutely LOVED Night Swim, the heart wrenching, gripping story that first introduced us to true crime podcaster Rachel Krall. When I received an email saying I was being sent an ARC for Dark Corners I literally screamed! I flew through this one, and I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. It is not as dark or emotional as Night Swim, and that was okay with me! I thought the pacing was perfect, I loved the short chapters and all of the side characters. -- Rachel Krall is summoned to Florida by the FBI to speak with a suspected serial killer. Shortly after arriving, Rachel realizes that nothing is going to go according to plan, and FBI Agent Joe Martinez regrets ever asking her to come. I LOVED Rachel in book 1 and I loved her in this one too. I love her fierce determination for justice and the truth, and the compassionate way she cares for survivors and their families. I am looking forward to reading more of this series, and hopefully seeing more of Martinez too!

This was definitely an entertaining read, but not my favorite by Megan Goldin. The storyline was great, but had too many loose ends that were wrapped up super quick in the last two chapters. Then the story just kind of . . . ended. The rest of the book was paced very well. There were also some interesting choices in dialogue whenever someone was speaking to Rachel. They always stated her name somewhere in the middle of the sentence or at the end of the sentence. Not how you would normally talk to someone in normal conversation—so this kind of threw me, but maybe it’s because it is the galley version and not completely done. Overall, I loved getting to be back with Rachel Krall and taking a dive into the crazy social media world!
