A book that focuses on the grieving process and learning how to move on when losing a loved one. I liked that this was set from the perspective of high schoolers and the guilt they may have faced.

SOMEONE YOU LOVED is the perfect sad romance if you’re looking for something that isn’t just all fluff.

I thought it was an enjoyable story overall, and was so glad to have the audiobook format to listen to on the drive to the beach this Summer.

*many thanks to Harper Audio and Netgalley for the gifted copy for review

If you love sad romances and so many teens do, this one does not disappoint. Jake and Sarah are able to find a way to move on after a terrible loss.

Alex, Sarah's older brother, is never far away when Sarah visits Ash at his place because the two are such close friends. She starts dating him as a sophomore. Alex, however, only passes away a few months later. Alex's best buddy and deathbed companion was Jake. Ash, Jake, and Sarah are all grieving the loss of a loved one and attempting to cope in their different ways. Jake and Sarah develop romantic sentiments for one another as they talk on the phone late at night and share their thoughts and experiences. Sarah and Jake take turns narrating this riveting young adult novel that delves into the complexities of loss, friendship, and love. I received an advanced reader copy from Netgalley and Harper Collins/Balzer & Bray in return for an honest review.

This one was hard, due to the narration. but it was a really good book. a good classic romance. Predictable, but sometimes when you're dealing with tough topics you need that.

Someone You Loved by Robin Constantine was a very enjoyable story.
This book had me hooked so early on.
The characters are well written and the plot is engaging.
Every single character seemed like real people so it's not hard to connect to.
These characters go through grief, love and rolling through the motions.
I thought the narrator did a wonderful job telling this story and keeping me engaged through it all.

While Someone You Loved is touted as “for fans of You’ve Reached Sam,@ i actually found this book to be more enjoyable!

Grief and young love are already so fraught and mired in high-intensity emotional landscapes, but gratefully, this novel focused on the after and the finding a way to live and love again versus being trapped by the grief.

The take is refreshing and wholly enjoyable with so many instances that made me chuckle and smile.

Someone You Loved is a moving story about the impact the tragic death of a teen has on his friends, girlfriend, and sister, who do their best to be thoughtful of one another but don't always succeed. Invariably, the teens all experience guilt and a misplaced sense of responsibility for events that were beyond their control. Learning to adjust to unwanted changes, managing expectations, and redefining happiness are prevailing themes. This is a dual POV story. All of the characters were well developed and possessed flaws as well as redeeming qualities.

When Sarah's boyfriend, Alex, dies, it's hard to process everything she's feeling, especially because her best friend, Ash, is Alex's sister. Learning how to process grief is hard, but when you're on the knife edge of supporting someone else in their grief while trying to cope with your own, it's hard to figure things out.

Then, an unlikely confidante comes along in the form of Jake, Alex's best friend. Jake was with him on the night Alex died, and so Ash wants nothing to do with him. The reminder of that night is too hard for her to bear. But what's Sarah supposed to do when Jake is the only one who seems to really get what she's going through?

And to make matters worse, it's senior year. So, it's not just grief she has to deal with, but everything else that goes along with graduation, college preparations, and leaving home for the first time.

Overall, I found this to be a well-written book. As someone who's familiar with grief, having lost my fiance unexpectedly, the emotions and struggles were believable. And it was nice to see how Jake and Sarah were eventually able to help one another successfully mourn their losses and look forward to the future.

Thank you to Robin Constantine, Harper Audio and NetGalley for an advance review copy.

This was cute. It was one of those feel good, predictable, comfortable love stories with decent pacing and a strong grasp on important themes of moving on from loss, handling tough stuff with friends, following your heart, etc.
