I'm sorry to say that this book did not work for me.

Things I did like: I like the found family trope and appreciate the attempt at "diversity" and queerness even if it felt a bit surface level.

But ultimately I found this book quite boring, transparently earnest and deeply unsubtle. So much telling rather than showing and such weirdly mundane details about EVERYTHING.

This was cute, but it definitely felt like the climax/ending was a bit rushed and "fairytale". Not to say that it wasn't a good book! I think I just wished for more. 3.5/5

A really fun read that I could not put down. The characters were relatable, mostly ;) and the story kept me gripped

When Iris inherits an house from her great aunt, it's the perfect opportunity to figure out her life separate from her disapproving family. The aging house however, will require a lot of work to make it livable, so Iris opens her doors to building a new found family, including handsome Eli who knows more about Iris than he is letting on.

The Only Purple House is Town is set in the same universe as the Fix-it Witches series, so look for familiar characters and enjoy a new stroll through this small magical town. As always, get ready for humor, magic and finding love and family in unexpected places in this new novel by Ann Aguirre.

This was so C.U.T.E.!!!
I fell in love with the cover, and the plot is just as cozy and adorable.
Amazing characters, a sweet story, cozy setting. It had everything I wanted.
Highly recommend.

I didn't realize this was a part of a series when I picked it up and I didn't have an issue with reading it. I can tell by other reviews this is either a book you love or hate it and I loved it. If you are in the mood for something fun and sweet with a small side of magic, this is what you are looking for. If you aren’t, then move on, this isn’t the book for you today.

Our FMC, Iris, is in a messy spot in life when she finds out about a house she inherited from her aunt. She decides to move to the town, clean up the house, and take on roommates to help keep her creditors at bay. This results in the various personalities of all the roommates she has assembled. She feels an obligation to take people in that need a "home" the most. The found family is all different ages and backgrounds who live comfortably with one another and work together to improve the house. There is some chaos with that many under one roof, but it just makes it livelier. The romance is closed door, but it is sweet and tender. They of course have some up and downs, and we watch them grow up a little as they navigate through those.

I would just call this a good mood book. If you need to be uplifted or just want a light, happy read, this will fit that mood perfectly.

Thank you to Ann Aguirre, Sourcebooks Casablanca, and NetGalley for a digital copy of The Only Purple House in Town.

Thank you, Sourcebooks Casablanca, and Netgalley for an advanced copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Disclaimers:
1. I typically enjoy many books by Sourcebooks' authors.
2. I didn't realize this was book four in a series and have never read from this author before
3. I DNFed, and did not skim the ending but read a good chunk of the book.

First off, I hate the male MC. I need to emphasize that, unfortunately, as it was a big hindrance for my enjoyment of this novel. The third person POV with the italicized first-person thoughts {didn't like that writing style} only fueled the level of creepiness this male resonated. You're repeatedly thinking you're possibly stalking someone, you likely ARE stalking her. The monthly designated time slots of watching her socials is one of the weirdest and biggest red flags I've ever read. I've read really dark romances, but this is supposed to be a witchy romcom and I can't look past the romanticized stalking. That's not an appealing quirk for a male MC to have. Because of his actions, I also believe this closed proximity romance/chemistry was more forced than genuine.

Overall, I had to DNF as I could never foresee myself rooting for this couple.

I could not get into this book. I DNF’ed it at 20%. Although the premise had me intrigued, there was nothing that kept me interested once I started. I have heard of this author, and have been encouraged to read their books, but I fear this may hinder me from picking up any other ones. But with that being said, it wasn’t good to ME only. No one or anything else influenced this opinion and I hope the other fans of this author enjoy the books to come.

The Only Purple House in Town by Ann Aguirre is a magical, cozy read. Iris was a typical burnt out character with no direction in her life, but the second she inherits a crumbly, purple mansion her life starts to get interesting. I thought the magical elements of the story were interesting and I liked the mix of magic with a modern setting. The unique and funny characters really gave this story all of it's charm and appeal. Each of the new roommates had cool backstories and quirky personalities that fit in well with Iris and her found family. I did think Eli was a bit creepy with his cyberstalking Iris and keeping secrets but I was happy with how they hashed things out. Rowan and Henry Dale were my favorite characters! I loved that they go along so well and that Henry Dale took Rowan under his wing. All of the magical systems and creatures (fae, witches, vampires, and more) were fun to read about and gave the book a Charmed feel. Overall I'd say this book is a good cozy fantasy romance if you're looking for a quick read with a lot of personality.

💜 BOOK REVIEW: The Only Purple House in Town 💜

SUMMARY:

Iris Collins is the odd man out—even in her own family. Her mother and sisters are super successful, but everything she tries seems to go sideways. An unexpected inheritance allows her to start over in a new house in a new town, where she quickly befriends a motley collective of offbeat individuals.

I enjoy everything Ann Aguirre puts out there. Her stories are maximally cozy and notably inclusive, and this is no exception. The Only Purple House in Town is a great small town, low-drama story to ease you into spooky season. Check it out if you like:

💜 Cozy supernatural romance
💜 Forced proximity
💜 He falls first
💜 Found family

This was a nice witchy read to start the fall spooky reads season! I expected this to be a fluffy, fun story and was quite surprised to find an extra layer of almost-stalkery behavior, which is what dropped my rating down to 3.5 stars. If the male main character was less of a stalker, I'd have rated this much higher. The cast was diverse with various ages, sexualities, and economic statuses. I thought the writer did a really good job portraying the family drama and the female main character's financial difficulties.

This was a very fun book, the main character is on a search to learn who they are and it is very rewarding. I enjoyed this read a lot.

While this is labeled as the 4th book in a series, I did not read the others and that did not alter my opinion or withhold any important info that could of contributed to the plot in any way! This can completely be read as a stand alone!
For starters, the cover of the book is a perfect depiction of what the inside consist of! This was such a cute and cozy fantasy with romantic elements. I felt that the romance was more of a side plot than anything, as it fell kind of flat for me.. but the found family aspects, friendship and bonds between the main characters are what made me enjoy this. I really love that a group of misfits came together and formed a little family, although they were different they complimented each characters personalities beautifully. The LGBTQIA+ rep was also wonderfully done! lastly, the sprinkling bits of paranormal were intriguing.
I did not enjoy were the bits of stalking that were mentioned, i found it weird and a gross. I also felt that the dialogue and plot was a bit choppy sometimes and it didn’t flow as smoothly as i would have liked. Overall, this was a cute and cozy little book and i did enjoy it for the most part.

While I only read the first book in the series before this (and didn't like it), I adored this one! First of all, the cover is amazing. I love a little supernatural romance and even better when the guy falls first. This could definitely be the perfect cozy read for fall.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC!

Many diverse characters & heartwarming moments in this book, and such a cute romance! I absolutely loved this ☺️ The FMC was so chaotic and funny I really liked her, she’s still finding her place in the world. If you want a cute, cozy, witchy YA romance, with found family trope in it, and some paranormal genre added in, I highly recommend this!

A thank you to NetGalley, SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca, and of course, Ann Aguirre for providing me with an eARC of this novel. I am voluntarily leaving a review, all opinions are my own.

This is a hard review to write, I normally love everything I've read by Ann Aguirre, so this one was very difficult to come to terms with. I'm sure I would have loved this book a whole lot more if I wasn't just automatically sceeved by the fact that there's so little repercussion to someone being a stalker. That's a huge no-go for me, if I EVER found out someone I was interested had stalked me in any way, that would be an automatic no for me. Like cheating, that's just not something I'm ever okay with.

I enjoyed the premise of the book alright, but it felt like a huge thing to me and I couldn't really move past it mentally.

Another fun book from Ann Aguirre!

I fully admit when I started this book I didn't realize its set in the same universe as the Fix-it Witches series and so when those characters were mentioned, I was thrilled!

This is a lovely story of finding oneself, found family, magic, and, of course, love.

Irs is the 'odd one out' in her family, never quite fitting in and always disappointing her mother.
Eli, wealthy now as an adult, was and in some ways still is, an outcast.
Both are seeking community and they find it with each other and others after Iris inherits a house - the Purple House - and in order to afford it, rents out rooms, including one to Eli who actually doesn't need a room, but simply wants to be near Iris.

This is definitely a slow-burn love story, and there is great balance between the romance and the found family. I really loved how supportive the residents of the Purple House are with one another, the way they balance each other out. The Purple House becomes a place where those feeling a bit lost, and/or in need of a safe home, can rest easy, knowing they are welcomed for who they are.

The part that threw me for a loop a bit was the explanation for why Iris feels like (is?) the odd one out in her family. It definitely introduced a new element to the magical universe created by the author and it'll be interesting to see if there will be future books that dive into this.

All in all, a lovely read.

Thanks to NetGalley, Sourcebooks Casablanca, and the author for an eARC of the book. Thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

A cute and cozy story perfect for those who like to match their reading to the spooky season, but don’t like things too spooky. I love house renovation stories so I enjoyed the story of Violet Gables and bringing the house back to life. The cast of characters is quirky and super likeable for the most part.
My only real gripe is the deception element that weaves through the romance in the book - the “I’ll tell her next week” thing isn’t my favorite.
A huge thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the digital ARC ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

A good addition to the series but not my favorite. I enjoyed the new cast of characters and the cozy vibes of the purple house, but wasn't sure how to feel about the stalker vibes of Eli. I definitely had mixed emotions about his and his relationship with Iris. Otherwise I love all the other house mates and their individual magic
