On the surface, Dr. Gregory Weber has it all: a thriving psychology practice, a beautiful home, a stable marriage to his longtime love, two children. But his seemingly perfect life is crumbling under the weight of a 30-year-old secret that threatens to separate him from everything he holds dear. When a mysterious patient shows up at his practice, he falls under her spell and finds himself ceding control of the sessions to her, becoming the patient instead of the therapist.

For me, WEDNESDAYS AT ONE was a page-turner; I didn’t want to put it down. Watching Gregory dismantle his life was like watching a car crash — I couldn’t look away. At many points, I almost forgot he was fictional and wanted to scream at him or throttle him for his obliviousness. Sandra A. Miller’s writing created palpable suspense even in situations that were merely domestic vs. action-packed. It’s hard to classify this book — and I can’t say too much, for fear of giving away its secrets — but I guess I would file it under domestic suspense, in a way. But it’s not your typical domestic suspense. It’s an examination of regret and guilt and forgiveness. I loved the writing style, the tone, the pacing and the complete package. I definitely would recommend.

Read this book if you like:
- psychology
- domestic suspense
- unreliable narrators
- stories about people screwing up their own lives where you can feel good about how much you have your s*%# together, in relation

This was a highly addictive psychological thriller with it all: a troubled past causing a distracted present, family drama on all sides, a mystery of supernatural proportions and the threads of unexpected love stories, too. Dr. Gregory Weber is an accomplished therapist who has dedicated his life to helping others, even if he cannot seem to help the state of his own family. But when an unexpected patient arrives, Gregory’s world is turned upside down as he faces things from his past that have been holding him hostage in his own life for years. Every Wednesday at one, Gregory wrestles with his own humanity, his conflicted heart and even the status of his own mind. This book was captivating on all fronts.

How this tale could be a thriller is beyond me; it reads more like a family in turmoil with Gregg at the centre. We eventually discover Greg is hiding something that explains why he struggles to feel emotions on a daily basis.
Gregg's unanticipated guest Mira begins to chronicle him, revealing more and more of his past errors with each visit.
Unfortunately, the narrative lost my interest after that and I had to work hard to finish it since it started to take a turn with weird bracelets, a scarf, and eventually the supernatural element that emerged out of nowhere.

This book is a beautiful work of fiction. The way the author weaves the story is artfully done. The relationships are authentically drawn. The conclusion is unexpected and satisfying in the most creative ways. Goodreads categorized Wednesdays as a thriller but it feels like a ghost story to me. There are also a bunch of funny (black humor) nuggets throughout. I can't wait to read Sandra's memoir as well as her future works of fiction!

I went to this, expecting more of a mystery or thriller and once I accepted that this wasn't that, I liked it pretty well. A therapist with troubled relationships with his wife, his father and his children, due to a secret and the resulting guilt from his teenage years. A new client shows up out of nowhere and challenges his professional boundaries, forcing him into therapy with her. This had a bit of a mystery to it, who was she. but primarily, it is about him healing himself and his relationships. A fairly quick read, it got a bit bogged down at parts with him being so much in his head, but overall an interesting read. A twist was added that seemed unnecessary and actually took away from the story.

Like many of the reviewers for this twisty, psychological novel have noted, it was not what I expected. The positives are that it was compulsively readable and the characters had rich and unusual back stories. The negative - to say more about what I didn’t care for would spoil the plot. If you like somewhat “out there” psychological mysteries, this one is for you.

Dr. Weber is a therapist who has a client appear in his office out of the blue, taking control of the session and every subsequent Wednesday at one. This mystery woman forces him to face a secret from his past, but not before he creates even more destruction in his life.

This book was not at all what I was expecting from the description, as it was not the thriller it was made out to be. The writing is decent, but it took me a really long time to feel pulled into the story at all. There were some interesting characters, and a few twists (some too convenient), but overall I found the main character hard to connect with.

Tackling topics such as remorse, guilt, and forgiveness, this book would be right for someone who enjoys moral dilemmas.

Thank you to Zibby Books, NetGalley and Sandra A Miller for the opportunity to offer a candid review of this book.

Dr. Weber, a psychologist, has dedicated his career to helping others. But a long festering secret from one terrible night in his past threatens to overwhelm him and put his marriage, family, and profession at risk. One day, a mysterious woman with all too knowing eyes tempts him to reveal the ugly truth he's hidden for so long, and shed the lie he's built his life around. But how is it that she already seems to know what happened that night? And has she come to offer him redemption? Or is she seeking revenge?

I really enjoyed this book! It had me hooked from the first chapter and I never knew what was going to happen next. This is a wonderful story of finding the courage to right the wrongs of the past, seeking redemption, and earning forgiveness.

There were moments in this novel when I was riveted, and there were moments that dragged. I feel like the story could be 30% shorter with less self-loathing from the main character, and it would be a more engaging read. It was also a very depressing story that seemed to get more and more sad as the pages turned. Nevertheless, I finished the book in a week because I wanted to know how it ended and couldn’t take the suspense.

Thanks Netgalley for the advanced copy!

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC! I'm giving this book five stars. I loved the idea of a therapist and patient relationship and how the therapist deals with it. I'm always curious about how a therapist can listen to patients all day and then still deal with their own families and issues. This book explores that a bit and so much more! Great plot and a twist to figure out.

3 mysterious patient stars

The main character in this one is a therapist, married with two children. But he has a deep dark secret from his late teen years that no one knows. Dr. Gregory Weber has an active practice, with an open spot on Wednesdays at 1 pm. One day, a mysterious new patient shows up in that time slot and he’s thrown for a complete loop.

Who is this mysterious woman? She seems to know about his secret and wants to help him process it. As his obsession with her grows, his marriage is crumbling, and he’s increasingly distanced from his children. His father’s health is failing and all that seems to matter to Greg is this woman.

While this one was not as suspenseful as the blurb promised, it did have some interesting characters and a few plot surprises. This was my first read from this author and there were some thoughts this book brought up for me. How do you forgive yourself? Can you repair damaged relationships?

This book was compelling and emotional and I loved every second of it. I think a much broader audience will enjoy this beyond thriller lovers!

I had to just untag all of the shelves, I had marked for this book-IT IS NOT THE PSYCHOLOGICAL SUSPENSE novel, I expected from the book synopsis.

Dr. Gregory Weber has a thriving career, as a therapist but he is haunted by a secret—a fatal mistake he made at seventeen. No one else knows about it, or so he believes, until Mira, an unscheduled patient, begins appearing in his office each Wednesday at 1 p.m.

She seems to KNOW about his lies of omission and she seems to accept him anyway, which makes him feel freer with her, than with anyone else. He becomes obsessed with her, and their hourly talks, which in turn causes more friction and distance between him and everyone else in his life.

But, how does she know what happened and what is she looking for?

This is a story of REMORSE and FORGIVENESS, which reads like CHRISTIAN FICTION.

If this is something you are looking for, the characters are well developed and feel like people you might be friends or neighbors with…

But, if you were looking for what I was looking for-you won’t find it here! 🫤

I was interested in reading this book because it was classified as a thriller. The genre of this book does not come even remotely close to a thriller. I am genuinely confused by this classification.

My rating reflects this book overall, not as a thriller. It was still pretty good, but not what I was expecting. It was well-written and tackled many deep subjects. I found some of the characters a bit annoying. I also felt like some parts really dragged on and talked about useless matters. I found myself skimming through many parts.

Thank you NetGalley and Libby Books for the advanced copy.

So I had requested this on the understanding it was a in the thriller genre but I didn't actually feel that was the right category once I started reading it. As a thriller, I'd have given it 1 star. However, as a book about coming to terms with a teounled past, limg buried secrets, deep.regrets and ingrained issues surrounding family and such..... it was a really beautiful story. Its well written and thought provoking. I can't say I related to the main character or was that invested in him but for those who like character driven books about life and regrets and coming to terms with one's past then I'm sure this book will be a total winner. I just didn't feel it was really a thriller. Maybe some kind of domestic noir light? Or just a plain old fashioned drama type. And yeah, im basing the rating off of the book itsself and luckily not as a thriller lol

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of Wednesdays at One.

The premise was intriguing so I wasn't sure what to expect when my request was approved.

The narrative started out well, until I realize the story wasn't what I had imagined.

This isn't a thriller or a mystery; it's a story about forgiveness, acceptance, and understanding.

I was expecting a standard mystery or thriller, and not really in the mindset for a story about a struggling psychologist trying to deal with the mistakes of his past and his daddy issues.

I also wasn't a fan of how Gregory and Phil are both linked to Mira. I don't believe in coincidences and I felt this 'twist' felt phony,

The writing was fine, but the story didn't grab me. I didn't care or relate to Gregory in any way, nor did I care about his problems with his past, his strained relationships with his family, and the constant monologuing in his head about the tragedy he caused.

This might be a simple case of this not being the right book for me but some readers might enjoy it.
